With three goals from striker Aduriz, Athletic Bilbao thrashed FC Barcelona 4-0 in the first leg of the Spanish Supercup in San Mames stadium.
The match began with Barcelona having the ball for the first ten minutes, Bilbao, even without ideas, found their way to their first goal. Barcelona’s goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter-Stegen miscalculated in clearing the ball, Mikel San Jose would capitalize with a shot from 52 yards out. Athletic Bilbao were in front 1-0.
The first and only clear opportunity for Barcelona was before half time, Lionel Messi looked forward to repeat the same magical night he had in Tiflis, Georgia where he scored two free kicks, however this time Iraizoz made a wonderful save.
In the beginning of the second half, Barcelona had a pair of chances to even the game, Manchester United target Pedro hit the crossbar, moments after Messi would take a shot, although once again Iraizoz would make a save. Bilbao would capitalized from a mistake from Sergi Roberto, Sabin would recover the ball, run it down and hit a cross to Aduriz, where he headed it to the back of the net and Bilbao were up 2-0.
15 magical minutes for Bilbao was enough to get them a four goal lead into the second leg, which will be played Monday at Camp Nou. This is the first time Barça has received eight goals in their first two games of the season in 65 years.
