New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016: Day One

Finally! It’s here! New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016 is officially the hottest happening at the moment. This event runs from September 10-17 primarily around four venues in New York; The Dock, Skylight and The Arc, Skylight at Moynihan Station and The Gallery and Th Space at Skylight Clarkson 50. But there are some shows that will be held in another locations.

So, here’s a quick rundown of NYFW Day One with their official Day One hashtag #NYFW *insert teal stiletto*

The day began with Nicholas K @ The Gallery, revealing his “urban nomadic” collection. The whole collection was strong, quite boyish, but very daring and bold, expressed in monochromatic.

Next was Rebecca Vallance, Australian designer, who is making big buzz around the industry. She returned to the runway @ The Space, showing her sensual and feminine collection playing with solids, prints, and shades of orange.

We got BCBGMAXAZRIA, one of the biggest names of Day One, just went Bohemian! The trend they were trying to create was the colourful bucket hats perfect for the beach or any hiking trip.

Erin Fetherson (Cobra Starships’s Gabriel Saporta’ wife) debuted her Spring/Summer 2016 collection @ The Dock. Her approach towards the season was to keep it youthful by giving lots of sheer florals down the runway.

Supima gave out a beautiful collection @ The Gallery, showcasing the elegance and regales of their gowns and dresses. The play on different shades and innovative hems, leaning on the serpentine type, showed much creativity and diversity.

Tadashi Shoji @ The Dock with beautiful beautiful framing above the runway entrance complemented his vision for his collection wonderfully. His floral prints and adorable silhouettes showed and emphasised his style of flowing, polished, and fresh designs.

Desigual came with tons of braids @ The Arc. He never leaves the eye lacking in his designs as his collection had everything from dresses, skirts, cropped denims, and even rompers. When Desigual begins on the runway, everything visually comes alive.

Josie Natori displayed simplicity and elegance @ The Space. The fusion of Asian elements to western designs and silhouettes made her collection stand out despite the use of plenty of solid colors.

Leanne Marshall, Project Runway alumnus, just gave out what I think is one of the most beautiful collections ever. Her idea of bringing the ocean to the runway just made the garments float on the runway.

TOME @ The Gallery was not afraid to keep the prints out. The duo Ramon Martin and Ryan Lobo created interesting silhouettes with beautiful combinations of prints, playing with their colour palettes wonderfully.

Kids Rock! @ The Dock has got be the most adorable runway show yet. Their models were so professional, so stylish, so confident that they really did gave justice to the clothing and more. Kids really do rock the runway.

Ohne Titel @ The Gallery gave wonderful art with bright colours to match the season. Their architectural style was highlighted and innovated creatively by positioning the aspects cohesively with the colour palettes they chose, focusing on the trend colours orange and blue.

Kempner @ The Space definitely brought sophistication on the runway with different silhouettes that did not limit the garments to fit one type of woman but every contemporary woman.

Other designers that showcased their collections at New York Fashion Week were Marissa Webb with her lilac and military green plaid collection, LC by Lauren Conrad’s big debut with her Upper East side looks that showed dream princess gowns and velvet pants. Sachin & Babi went for tons of layers, specifically three, bringing back and playing with peplum. Calia by Carrie Underwood released a swimwear collection too! Last but not the least, Creatures of the Wind brought out the leather with their monochromatic and orange approach to Spring and Summer next year. Also, artist Shantell Martin created a mural for the event.

That was just Day One! Day Two is happening with #NYFW *insert black jacket*!
