I, like most people, really enjoyed the first season of Daredevil. With a darker tone and smaller stakes it felt confident taking the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a brand new direction, and it made a lot of people pay attention to what Netflix were doing with Marvel Studios after Agents of SHIELD put a fair few people off the TV side of things. I’m stupid excited for the upcoming Jessica Jones, and the success of Daredevil is a large part of the reason why.
The first footage of Daredevil season 2 was recently previewed by audiences at New York Comic Con. I bet they felt pretty special, getting exclusive content like that – but we live in the age of the Internet baby, and nothing stays secret for long. The video they saw was officially released on the net today.
In the 2 minute-long video, we get a reminder of how good the first season of Daredevil was before the footage of the new season starts at about 1 minute 31 seconds in.

“Guilt can be a good thing. It’s the soul’s call to action. An indication that your work is not yet finished.”
That’s a great line for a teaser trailer. Playing heavily on the Catholic guilt that defines Matt Murdock, the teaser seems determined to show us that the tone set in the first season of Daredevil will remain in season two, as well as giving us our first glimpses of Élodie Yung as Elektra Natchios (who was implied to already know Matt in a season one Easter Egg) and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher. The morally grey nature of these new characters (who have each been both heroes and villains in the comics at different times) means that we don’t know if Matt will find himself with new allies, or in way over his head.
I hope it’s the latter. Daredevil season 2 will be released on Netflix at some point in 2016.
