Anyone who has been reading my articles here or is following me on Twitter should know by now that I’m pretty ‘into’ the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it should come as no surprise that I’m greatly anticipating the release of Jessica Jones of Netflix in just 10 short days. Below is the brand new trailer, released today.
“I don’t know how you handle it.”
“It’s called whisky.”
So what’s new? Well, for a start this trailer gives us a much greater sense of who Jessica Jones is, as well as giving us more footage of Jessica fighting people – it looks like her super strength will be put to good use by the show, putting my concerns that Jessica Jones would make the mistake of ‘saving’ its super powers for the finale to rest. My favourite moment sees Jessica pushing Luke Cage against a wall – it’ll be interesting to see the power dynamic in a relationship where the tiny, physically unimposing woman can throw people across a room with one hand.
We also get out first proper look at David Tennant as the villainous Kilgrave (and he looks excellent), but the biggest takeaway here is how radically different the general tone of this trailer is to the first one we saw (and you can read my article on the first Jessica Jones trailer here). If the first trailers more thoughtful, dour feeling didn’t do anything for you, then this one should – it’s much more powerful, a real sense of momentum giving us a good idea of what to expect from the show, as well as being a fair bit more upbeat and quite frankly more awesome than the last trailer. To borrow an informal phrase, it’s hype.
Jessica Jones comes out all at once on Netflix on the 20th November. I couldn’t be more excited.
