In a recent interview with Empire, producer Charles Roven stated that Batman will become an “executioner” during the events of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
“[Batman] is not giving people a chance,” Roven stated. “He is more than a vigilante. He has become not only the cop, if you will, he has also become the jury and executioner.”
Roven later continued on by noting the differences between Ben Affleck‘s version of the Batman and Christian Bale‘s highly praised (and often mocked) version in the Christopher Nolan films.
“He’s older…he’s seen the worst of what man can do. He’s been darkened by it, he’s tougher, he’s angrier, I guess…he’s still lost those that are near and dear to him, and not necessarily from old age or disease.”
Roven is presumably talking about the death of Jason Todd, whose Robin costume we see in the trailers for the upcoming film. Does Todd’s death at the hands of the Joker push this new Batman in a much darker direction than we’ve seen before?
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will arrive in theaters on March 25, 2016.
