Orange is the New Black’s sentence increased

Netflix has renewed their hit original series Orange is the New Black for a further three seasons.

Showrunner Jenji Kohan will stay on Netflix’s most-watched original series through seasons five, six and seven with season four hitting the digital subscription service on June 17th 2016.

Jenji Kohan said: “Three more years! Not quite a political term, but still plenty of time to do some interesting things. In some cultures, ‘May you lead an interesting life,’ is a curse, but I don’t live in those cultures. Here’s to keeping it interesting. Thanks, Netflix! Both thanks and you’re welcome Lionsgate! And kudos and gratitude to the stellar cast and crew and writers and producers and editors and musicians and mixers and shleppers… with whom I have the pride and honor of crafting this show. Three more years! Three more years!

Cindy Holland, Netflix’s VP of Original Content said: “Jenji and her team have produced a phenomenal and impactful series that is both funny and dramatic, outrageous and heartfelt. Audiences around the world have come to love the ladies and men of ‘Orange Is the New Black,’ and we are eager to see where three more seasons will take them. Kohan’s commitment to the show for another three seasons is a significant investment for the seasoned writer-producer, who is much in demand by other outlets thanks to the groundbreaking work she’s achieved with OITNB.

Orange is the New Black follows in the vein of Netflix’s other original series House of Cards in the renewal conveyor belt.

Unfortunately, or, fortunately, depending on how you look at it, season three of Orange of the New Black, and House of Cards alike, was the weakest. It was increasingly more annoying and muddled than its previous two seasons with characters turning from funny and likeable to puzzling and arrogant. It felt like the writers misplaced their character trait sheets.

Having said that Uzo Aduba may have single-handedly saved the third season from being downright boring. Scratch that, Ruby Rose helped a lot as well. Nevertheless, Aduba’s Crazy Eyes continues to the shocking and surprising highlight of the show. She’s so warm and endearing and that single look, as she runs for the hole in the prison fence wall, was looped and watched over and over again. Make her the star of this show.

Regardless, Orange is the New Black isn’t new anymore. The show will air its fourth season this June 17th and enjoy three more seasons after that. It’s like Rambo: First Blood Part 2 all over again; people always pick the wrong titles.
