The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens has joined the cast of DC’s Powerless.
Powerless, the first straight comedy from DC Entertainment is a single-camera entry set in the DC Comics universe but focused on characters otherwise Powerless. It is described as “an office comedy about the exceedingly average employees at an insurance company and their quest to find their own power”.
THR reveals that Hudgens will play the show’s lead Emily Locke: “an insurance claims adjuster who loves her job because she gets to help people, Emily likes to fly under the radar and just get her work done. She finds herself increasingly exasperated by the disruptive antics of the various Super Heroes that proliferate in her city.”
Hudgens is coming off her critically acclaimed performance as Fox’s Grease Live and looking for more secure and frequent work on the small screen.
Having said that, NBC has only ordered Powerless to pilot for assessment. NBC plans to send Powerless to series in time for a late-2016 premiere if it’s a hit with the big wigs.
Ben Queen is the name attached to pen and run Powerless, which isn’t particularly good news considering he helped write Cars 2. Having said that, he produced his own TV comedy project called A to Z that, although cancelled, was met with warmth.
