According to the Daily News, Rocky and Rambo star Sylvester Stallone may have just bagged a role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
Sylvester Stallone surprised everyone last year after turning in an Oscar worthy – unfortunately he lost – performance opposite Michael B. Jordan in Creed.
Whilst Marvel and Disney have yet to confirm or even comment on the notion of Stallone joining director James Gunn’s sequel, a lot of respectable sites have picked it up after images showing Stallone with a script (supposedly that of GOTG2) near where the Marvel feature is shooting. He then popped into a car, usually used for Chris Pratt, to get to the set.
Whilst many are starting to hypothesise what role Stallone could be playing, it is important to remember that he may be playing a cameo. Much like Nathan Fillion in Guardians of the Galaxy or Josh Brolin’s Thanos, I suspect that if Stallone does have a role, it will be a minute one.
But even then, why does he have a script? Surely a cameo doesn’t require a script so big. Maybe he’s playing the villain? Maybe he has a substantial role?
If so, how have they kept this under wraps? Sly Stallone surprised everyone last year with a shockingly innocent and emotional return to the character of Rocky Balboa in the equally impressive Creed. If he has bagged a role in GOTG2, it’s nice to see that studios are finally recognising the Stallone Renaissance and giving him a big stage to flaunt the obvious talent he possesses but doesn’t always show.
Having said all that, Marvel and Disney have not confirmed this news and as of right now this is all rumour and speculation.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theatres on 5th May 2017.
