The 5 Movies You May Have Missed

If you know me or even read my last article on here, you know I hate what has happened to the horror genre. It’s become over saturated with jump scares and things that just aren’t scary. This movie is the way horror movies should be made. Directed by David Robert Mitchell, this is his second movie and the first being a rom-com. While I was researching each one of these movies I saw part of a review that really hit me and made me want to put this on here. Andrew Gold says this movie “breathes new life into a dying genre.” It’s because of this dying genre this movie was largely glossed over. Well that and the fact it was a horror movie coming out in March, that’s weird.

This movie is a major call back to 70s and 80s horror. Sure it’s not 60s like I’d like but it’s still a good time for horror. They don’t really try jump scares or creepy things shoved in your face. It’s a slow build that really builds the tension for what you are about to see. I won’t say much more because horror movies are easy to spoil and I don’t want to do that. But this movie shows what we can do with horror as a whole if we try to take it back to its roots, or somewhere around there.

EX MACHINA was pretty good with a moderately twisted but flawed ending.

The Gift was freaky, but even suspension of disbelief didn’t help this movie, as the probabilities of the antagonist being able to do what he did as part of a plan don’t jive.
