Watchmen star joins Alien: Covenant
Deadline is reporting that Watchmen star Billy Crudup has joined the cast of Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant in a key role.
Crudup joins the previously announced Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Demian Bichir, Danny McBride, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo and Callie Hernandez.
“Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.”
Whilst Deadline has no details on Crudup’s character, it is safe to assume that he will be playing another crewmember of the Covenant ship.
Many audiences won’t immediately recognise Crudup’s name but the actor is consistently knocking it out of the park in every role. He was solid as Mr Manhattan in Watchmen, he was awesome in the hauntingly amazing Spotlight and he has been lauded for his role in The Stanford Prison Experiment.
After the lukewarm reception of Prometheus, some justified and some not, Ridley Scott is promising to take his beloved universe back to its roots. He has confirmed that all your favourite killers – face huggers, chest bursters and the xenomorph – will be back for Alien: Covenant, which will then be followed by two more sequels Scott intends to direct.
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ‘Alien’ with ‘Alien: Covenant’, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with ‘Prometheus’ — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction.
Following on from how astonishingly fun and funny The Martian was, I am firmly excited for Scott’s Alien: Covenant because it seems, at last, that Scott can make fantastic films again.
Alien: Covenant will hit theatres on 6th October 2017.
