Assassin’s Creed 2 with Fassbender already being planned
Tracking Board is reporting that New Regency is prepping pre-production on Assassin’s Creed 2 starring Michael Fassbender, even as the first film is set for release in December 2016.
The notion that New Regency is already looking at a sequel shouldn’t surprise anyone. Seeking out two-time Academy Award nominee Michael Fassbender to not only star in but also produce Assassin’s Creed shows that they mean business. And the fact that Fassbender brought on his Macbeth director Justin Curzel and co-star Marion Cotillard is proof that New Regency wants Fassbender to stick around for this budding franchise.
Assassin’s Creed will follow Callum Lynch (Fassbender), a man who discovers that he’s the descendant of a secretive society of deadly assassins, who are at war with the Knights Templar. Through a machine, Lynch becomes able to tap into the memories of his ancestor Aguilar, an assassin in 15th century Spain. Commanding his ancestor’s incredible skills, ability, and knowledge, Lynch sets forth to take on the Knights Templar in the present.
And whilst this is a video game adaptation, the feature will not adapt the events depicted in the series but will exist within the same universe.
Assassin’s Creed could be the first actually good video game adaptation. Lara Croft is oogled at but no one actually respects it. Silent Hill is a joke. Hitman is an absolute atrocity. Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil are best left alone. Max Payne and Prince of Persia were both misjudged pieces of mess. 2016 will see the release of Warcraft and Assassin’s Creed. Of the two, Assassin’s Creed has the potential to be something special. The fusion of Justin Kurzel with stars like Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Michael K. Williams, Brendan Gleeson and Jeremy Irons is tantalising, to say the least.
Assassin’s Creed is set for release on December 21st 2016.
