Meet The Cast Of James Wan’s New Mortal Kombat Movie

The upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot, produced by James Wan (Saw, Insidious, Furious 7, Aquaman) – which will be R-rated and feature gory fatalities – has been brutally busy filling out its cast of ferocious fighters. With filming already begun we can introduce you to the new cast of the upcoming film;

Mehcad Brooks who’s set to leave his role as Jimmy Olsen on The CW’s Supergirl is set to play Super Soldier Jaxon Briggs, a Special Forces officer with cybernetically-enhanced arms. Previously, Jax was played by Gregory McKinney and Lynn Williams in the two live-action films from the ’90s.

Chin Han (The Dark Knight, Marco Polo) is set to play, Liu Kang’s arch-nemesis, Shang Tsung.

Hiroyuki Sanada (Lost, Westworld, Avengers: Endgame) will play the hell-bound ninja Hanzo Hasashi – aka Scorpion. Chris Casamassa and J.J. Perry played the role previously.

Tadonobu Asano’s gotten an upgrade in Mortal Kombat, landing the role of Raiden, the non-Asgardian God of Thunder. Raiden can control lighting as well as teleport. Christopher Lambert portrayed Raiden in the 1995 film while James Remar filled in for the sequel, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

Newcomer Sisi Stringer will play Mileena, the evil clone of Kitana who wishes nothing more than to slay her “sister.” Mileena is a lethal lass with sinister sai skills and an almost unparalleled penchant for death-dealing. Mileena was previously played by Dana Hee in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

Ludi Lin, who you can catch in the 2017 Power Rangers film and in the Black Mirror episode “Striking Vipers,” will play hero Liu Kang, one of Earth’s most powerful and capable warriors. As the main character for most incarnations and stories within the Mortal Kombat franchise, Liu Kang is the nemesis of inter-dimensional sorcerer Shang Tsung. Robin Shou played Kang in both ’90s Mortal Kombat movies.

Renowned martial artist, Joe Taslim (The Raid, Fast & Furious 6, The Night Comes for Us) will slip into the glacial gear of Sub-Zero, one of the franchise’s most iconic characters. Sub-Zero is capable of controlling ice. Previously, Sub-Zero was played by Francois Petit and Keith Cooke.

Australia’s Josh Lawson (House of Lies) is set to play Kano – the merciless mercenary leader of crime cartel The Black Dragon. An arms dealer with a cybernetic heart, Kano is a killer through and through. JAG’s Trevor Goddard played Kano in 1995’s Mortal Kombat.

Aussie actor Jessica McNamee, is suiting up for the role of Sonya Blade, the tough as nails General of Earth’s special ops forces on a mission to thwart extra-dimensional invaders. Her nemesis? Kano. The man who murdered her former partner. Bridgette Wilson (Last Action Hero, I Know What You Did Last Summer) played Sonya in the 1995 movie while Sandra Hess tagged in for Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

Max Huang is a stunt performer and actor of Chinese and German descent. He’s known for his stunt performances in Kingsman: The Secret Service, Jackie Chan’s The Foreigner, and Hitman: Agent 47. He’ll be playing Kung Lao, the former Shaolin Monk whose wide-brimmed hat is so razor sharp it can cut a man in half. Kung Lao didn’t appear in either of the original Mortal Kombat movies.
