INsider’s Guide: Ridgio, Dan Miraldi, Safari Room, Joséphine, Almost Owen…

Hot new Hip Hop artist Ridgio, the brainchild of artist Derek Towner, is set to explore a new world of sound for 2020. His latest release comes in the form of “We Made It” , which is currently out via all digital platforms now. For Ridgio his passion for music started young which helped to craft and hone his vision we hear today.

Listen in to his latest single “World” via Spotify:

His initial sound came from being with his family recording in his Aunt’s attic at the age of 17. He had a piano, t-pain mic, and an iPod to record. Fast forward 8 years later, and his sound has developed into its own niche, especially when he goes into a lower register.
“I just don’t find a lot of artists nowadays that sound like that. I started music on the fly at 17, so everything you hear currently is freshly developed and raw sonics. I never went to school for anything music wise. I never took any classes so it’s all just a blessing and a gift.”

At 16 Ridgio found himself influenced by Big Sean which gave him the inspiration to pursue a musical path all of his own. Currently Ridgio finds himself diving into artists such as Kendrick Lamar (because of his crazy concepts), J Cole (because of his fluid storytelling), Tupac (because of his passion and storytelling), and Kanye West (because he constantly pushes the boundaries of Hip Hop and entertainment).

Here are some new indie tunes for your ears from Safari Room.
Recently the band has just released their new album “Look Me Up When You Get There”, which has become a frequently talked about new record this Summer.

Safari Room is an indie rock band, assembled in Nashville, TN, but born elsewhere. With a keenness on human connection as a founding cornerstone, the band is characterized by ambient soundscapes, intricate rhythms, baritone-led falsetto vocals, crunchy guitars and introspective lyrical content. Touring the U.S. far and wide, Safari Room has established themselves as one of Nashville’s most intriguing and personal rock bands.

Safari Room’s sound has been compared to The National, Death Cab for Cutie, Grizzly Bear and Fleet Foxes. All comparisons find them perfectly adjacent to some of the most engrossing and experimental indie rock bands playing today.

With the nostalgic sound of decades past, Joséphine gives us her latest single “BabyGirl.” On this track, Joséphine pines for her lover, who she is afraid has “found somebody new.” With influences from Ella Fitzgerald to Amy Winehouse, “BabyGirl” is reminiscent of a song you would hear in a ‘60s jazz lounge with a modern, pop twist.

Watch + Share “BabyGirl”:

Joséphine recently shared with the piece:

“I took a trip to Israel late last year with a vision to connect with my roots and make art there. I was wandering around Jaffa (South Tel Aviv) one evening and happened across this Hotel – Inta Gay Hotel (yes it is a gay hotel!). I walked in and saw they were doing a live model sketching – this handsome man perched upon a gorgeous deep burgundy chaise lounge, string lights draped around him as guests drew him. Immediately I knew – this was BabyGirl. The entire hotel had this beautiful vintage Art Deco aesthetic that made me feel like I was coming home. The owners Kobi & Ziv are great friends to this day – they saw the vision and had a lot of faith in me. I’m proud to say that with no plan, no money and no connections I was able to fulfill this dream to create art in a place I love, with strangers who became family, showcasing Israeli creatives & highlighting their work.”
The video generously compliments the song, “showing” a perfect correspondence to the tune’s “tell” and giving the listener a taste of her ambiance. Characterized by decadent scenes within a hotel, it details the fuzzy romance between her and the non-committed lover in the song. The viewer can almost smell the cigarettes in the bar scene, as Joséphine hands her man a ruby-red strawberry, which winds up in the final shot, but now with a bite taken out of it. Through this enticing song/video Joséphine clearly demonstrates her brand: that she is luxurious and not messing around, and that the music-world is her oyster.

Singer/songwriter/producer ALMOST OWEN is making a massive splash in the summer of 2020, releasing his sophomore album entitled THE SUM OF CONTRADICTIONS on August 11th.

Following a year of 150+ shows across the US, ALMOST OWEN has been making the most of his quarantine, penning his delightfully unique brand of R&B, hip hop, and electronically tinged pop music. He describes his latest record THE SUM OF CONTRADICTIONS as, “an album of silver linings – and an inventory of the attempts we make to reconcile the bleakness of the present with our hope for the future”. Each of the 7 tracks feature his signature earworm melodies and confessional lyrical style, buoyed by a sonically rich and often balls to the wall outrageous instrumental backdrop.

The genre bending artist is continuing a strong 2020 following the release of his full length LP LATE NIGHT DANGEROUS earlier this summer, and singles WE OUT HERE, ONE LUCKY MAN and ONE IN A MILLION, which have garnered close to half a million streams on Spotify. All three singles are included on THE SUM OF CONTRADICTIONS.
