I collaborated on this track with Liel Bar-Z, who provided vocals and wrote the song’s lyrics. I usually produce songs starting with the instrumental but in this case it was up to me to create a track to match the vocals and show my capabilities as a producer. The bass line is the driving force behind “The Judge,” contributing rhythmically via a call and response with the vocals. Including saxophone and trumpet solos harkens back to my days performing in middle and high school jazz bands. Once I had added those elements, the song felt truly complete. I hope that you connect with the lyrics’ message, which is that the past is the past. Let’s not worry about what has happened and instead enjoy the present, as well as what the future has to offer! The fun and flirtatious “Can’t Be Friends” narrates falling for the wrong person and happily overlooking the consequences. The infectious song sparkles with colourful melodies, a move-inducing beat and Gallop’s distinct vocal delivery. The songwriter shares, “This song came from another deluded boy crush and was based around the nerves of seeing someone when you know you shouldn’t and that they’re not good for you, but also knowing you really want to, attempting to make someone jealous and just generally being up to no good.”
All of Flo’s music is food for the heart and words for the wise. This is a writer of depth, already a collaborator with established giants Tom Fuller and Will Thomson but, rather than stand on their shoulders, she has hands on the wheel.

musician Taylor Rogers and filmmaker Lillian Walker share their collaborative video ‘short’, “N.A.” in anticipation of the release of their long-form music film, NOA (out May 7). “N.A.” (an initialism of “Not Anymore”) builds on Taylor’s song which reflects on reclaiming one’s voice after a long period of suffering.
In many ways the “N.A.” video short embodies the spirit of NOA’s collaborative nature. The process of creating a visual offering gave an opportunity to filter the initial message through multiple new lenses. As Lillian explains “we wanted to show the way art can communicate by having the performers interpret the themes of each song through their own experiences. Those contributions are then interpreted through the filmmaking; each successive layer brings new qualities to the core message which enriches our understanding of what is being said.”
The protagonist of this video is Chicago-based performance artist Alana Parekh. Her dance interpretation of “N.A.” takes the viewer through a journey from repression to a bold embracing and following of her emotions. The spirit is heightened by the striking filming
locations of the abandoned 120-year-old St. Boniface church on Chicago’s west side and the stunning lakeside landscape of Illinois Beach State Park.
Rose Fest is a music festival that gives back to the community, shines the light on emerging artists and collaborates with established artists to give fans across the world exclusive access to behind-the-scenes content and live performances. Named after a camp on Mt. Kilimanjaro – the track features field recordings captured by DEFSET during his trip. It is another fine example of DEFSET’s analog and modular approach to electronic music – resulting in lush, energetic and enigmatic textural sounds.
Talking about the track, DEFSET says; “the inspiration for this track comes from a trip to Mt. Kilimanjaro. It’s a unique place, Shira2 is a camp on Kili with the most beautiful views and skies. There are some field recordings I made at the camp on the track. It’s positive, energetic and enigmatic which relates to the feelings I had when I was there.”
Although new to the electronic music scene, DEFSET demonstrates mastery in using modular synthesizers and outboard gear to create a pallet of evolving melodies over syncopated, glitched out rhythms, delivering a deeply accomplished sonic blend of immersive techno and atmospheric electronic music.

Drawing comparisons to Björk, Sinead O’Connor and Sylvan Esso, Shrines is the moniker of Brooklyn-based singer and musician, Carrie Erving (Ponyhof, Will Butler of Arcade Fire). Our Ship is Ready, her new visual EP, is due out on April 16. Today she releases the project’s clip for “Our Ship is Ready.” Our Ship is Ready is a collection of her modern re-imaginings of traditional folk ballads, which she learned while living in Ireland, from traditional singers including Iarla Ó Lionaird and Karan Casey.
Of “Our Ship is Ready,” Shrines shares: “This is the title track of the EP, and recounts the beginning of a voyage into the unknown. A traditional Irish emigration song, it encompasses both the longing for home and the intrinsic hope in looking out towards the future.”
Of Our Ship is Ready (the EP), Shrines shares: “My time in Ireland collecting songs from the Sean-nós (the Irish language term for “old style”) tradition has had such a deep impact on the way that I sing and write music. Our Ship Is Ready is a project that I hope to continue in the future, with more collaborators and volumes of collected traditional songs. I offer this first volume as a snapshot of a creative process during the pandemic, in which I reached back to the source of some of my deepest inspiration as an artist, and recorded and performed these songs while living in isolation in nature. These are some of my favorite songs that have stuck with me for many years and I am excited to have the opportunity to arrange them in my own way and share them.
My husband (the videos’ director, Brody Bernheisel) and I have been quarantining on an island in Maine. We’ve filmed music videos that seek to capture these traditional songs’ reverence of the natural world. Creatively, there is a direct connection for me between the natural settings we chose for the film locations and the wild nature that is present in so many of these ancient songs. I also imagine a connecting thread to the original settings in which they were perhaps written: within solitude and as an ode to nature. From my side of the Atlantic, I’m engaging in a conversation with these ancient themes and stories and bringing my own creative interpretations to them. Arranged with strings, piano, and synths, these songs also pay homage to the inspiration of my favorite folk records from the ‘60s and ‘70s. Alongside a recurring theme of a reverence for the land, the songs share the thread of the same theme of beginning a journey, looking out into the unknown with trepidation or excitement. For me this project is also a snapshot of a creative process during the pandemic — recording vocals at my home studio in Maine with vocal producer/mixer Rosana Cabán (Psychic Twin) and engaging in an extended long-distance correspondence of recording, arranging and mixing with my longtime collaborator, cellist and co-producer Chris Loxley.
LA based electronic duo OYLS are releasing the music video for their song “Netflix (Your Product Is Too Good)” directed by Nicole Lipp. Both the third single off their most recent album OYLS (For Your Consideration), as well as the third episode in a series of seamless videos dubbed as a visual ‘Pop Opera,’ the video stars legendary actor and Los Angeles local Danny Trejo (Machete, Spy Kids) in a very humanizing role: a lost soul binging Netflix late at night in a motel – with snacks, naturally.
With the hopes to destigmatize mental illness, the band shares, “The song is really about how we cope with our negative feelings, whether they stem from the stress of our daily lives, mental illness, or uncertainty about the world.” OYLS explains, “To have someone of Danny’s stature willing to portray a vulnerable character struggling with his own mind is invaluable to normalizing our conversations about mental health. It really is a huge honor to have him involved.”
“Netflix (Your Product Is Too Good)” takes a minimalistic stance sonically, crafted with an array of electronic warmth. With pulsing, throbbing synths, punctual pronunciation, rich in character and snappy tones softened by the echoing flares, the catchy hook and lyrics are dusted in a lighthearted gleam while holding a colder, more relatable theme. The song has moments of robotic, electro style harmonies adding a haunting effect and samples that add a witty sound but a harsh message, replicating that inner voice we all know.
Reflecting the addiction to the easily supplied, numb living of the modern world, the video shows Danny Trejo unknowingly glued to his screen with an endless supply of munchies, binging his life away. OYLS share, “We explore some of the conflicted relationships we have with pervasive technology and late-stage capitalism. Unlimited content at our fingertips is both a remarkable tool and a powerfully addictive escape.”
Prior to the release of OYLS (For Your Consideration), the duo sold space on their album cover for anyone to purchase, with proceeds going to MusiCares, a non-profit that assists musicians struggling with mental illness. Proceeds from this music video will also go to MusiCares and they have made it possible to donate directly to the cause through their Spotify page.
“We hope to impact the discourse surrounding mental illness. It’s such a stigmatized topic but so many sufler on a daily basis that it really shouldn’t be. Hopefully we can help make that change.”

Co-founder, lead vocalist and keyboardist Nathalie has practiced as a mental health professional and expressive arts therapist working extensively with people who witnessed a wide array of abuse and neglect. As a journalist, VINOK’s co-founder and drummer Ilya has witnessed the atrocities executed by authoritarian and corrupt regimes in Eastern Europe and the sheer poverty that resulted from them. The band’s virtuoso bassist Anton comes from war-torn eastern Ukraine and says, “Music is my salvation”.
“river” is the namesake of a masterpiece written by American novelist Flannery O’Connor. Much of the symbolism within the song is in reference to her renowned story “River”. This song is about redemption and all of the pain that comes with it before one is truly set free. “We have been inspired by much of Flannery O’Connor’s bold, truthful, gothic and often violent writing style,” said Nathalie, the lead vocalist of the band. “For example, our previous EP Wise Blood (hence the name being based on one of O’Connor’s novels) used a lot of similar symbolism”.
“For some, river can be seen as a tragedy but for us it is definitely a story of redemption,” said the band’s drummer Ilya.
I’m gonna sing my way down to the river, I’m gonna pray that everything will be okay. “These lyrics are meant as prayer and plea for peace, especially in a time of so many unknowns,” shares Nathalie. VINOK’s music was mixed by sound producer and engineer Paul ‘PDub’ Walton who worked with legends such as Bjork, U2, No Doubt, Madonna, Massive Attack, Birdy, and The Cure. The album was mastered by Rudy Martinez, who is a voting member of the Grammys as well as an active member of the Audio Engineering Society.
VINOK looks to 2021 with positive energy as it’s set to be a huge year for the band. With their sights set on the stratosphere, their first full-length album is due April 2021.

Bill Majoros is a Canadian singer/ songwriter/ multi-instrumentalist who releases music under the name of The Foreign Films.
Majoros has played hundreds of shows spanning North America and the UK, from infamous clubs such as CBGB’s in NYC and The Legendary Cavern Club in Liverpool (of Beatles fame), to packed stadium shows and festivals supporting many well-known artists.

Lieberman confides, “We spend more time with our phones and those AI voices than we do with our significant others or family.”

I’m now in my late 20s, but I think I’ll feel 20 years old in my head for the rest of my life. This song addresses how things move FAST. I think everyone has days where we grapple with where we’re “supposed” to be versus where we’re actually at. This song makes me want to drive through the Rocky Mountains with the windows down. Being from the West Coast, driving through peaks is what puts me at ease, because when you’re driving you aren’t really doing anything else, yet it still feels productive ’cause you’re getting somewhere.

Tim Rose and producer D Did That (Darien Newton) and have been on a Lofi Hip Hop road trip— making beats in Tim’s van recording studio “Vanna White.” The final destination is unknown — pit stops along the way include Paisley Park, Dilla’s Basement, the Hard Hitting Drum Factory, John Mayer’s ranch in Wyoming, and possibly some pit stops for pizza from Delicious Vinyl. Good beats for the road — wherever it may lead.
“For the Most Part” begins with a phone call from a struggling friend trying to resist relapsing on his addiction. He is feeling alright “For the Most Part”, which sets the mood for this track. Heavy lofi drums, big synth bass is a nod to J Dilla – a hero to both Darien and Tim. The guitar solo is a minimal, pocketed, stream of consciousness — and was tracked in one take.

Get ready for KILLY to burn brighter than ever in 2021.
A true adherent to the DIY ethos, Owen Duff creates everything related to his music, from artwork to videos, as well as playing or programming nearly all of the instruments on his songs. He began learning piano at the age of four, picking up drums, guitar and a few other instruments along the way, eventually writing songs that blend influences from folk, 60s chamber pop, electronica, film, TV scores and jazz.
His catalogue includes five EPs as well as having recorded an album of twenty songs which, rather than releasing, he hid in secret locations around the world. This was documented in the video for ‘The Race‘, which accompanied the launch of Owen’s fourth EP ‘Realityicide’. He scored the Queerty award-nominated web series Kissing Walls in 2019 and in 2020 began releasing songs from an upcoming album called bed.
His upcoming album bed takes influence from Owen Duff’s past relationship with “someone who was struggling to reconcile a conservative religious upbringing with his sexuality.” He further confides, “at the same time I was asking my own philosophical questions around what it means to be not be heterosexual, especially in relation to deciding not to have children. The album is broadly structured around the story of the relationship between two people from falling in love, to disillusionment and eventual acceptance.” Sonically, the collection of songs feature sweeping folk soundscapes, layered vocals, and thoughtful progressions.
The prolific songwriter has further found success performing at several iconic UK venues including Bush Hall, the Royal Vauxhall Tavern and Manchester’s Academy. His work has been praised by Hollywood actor Chloë Grace Moretz and legendary musician, broadcaster and activist Tom Robinson, among others. Owen’s songs have further received airplay on BBC Radio and his music has appeared in the films “Thirteen Downs,” “The Falls,” and its two sequels, which also featured music specially commissioned for the soundtrack.

Beacon Bloom are an electronic trio from New Zealand. Together, Ryan Ferris, James Allen and Joss Doge have created their own unique, genre-fluid universe. Taking inspiration from the best of European nightlife, the outfit continues to push the boundaries of music and multimedia in both the virtual and physical worlds.
Their latest release “Nothing Here But You” narrates the felt experience of mania, the breakdown of consensus reality and the conviction that you are the only thing in existence. Showcasing some of their most danceable work to date, this is a groove-centred club track framing Beacon Bloom’s trademark vocals, transporting you to the jungles. The expedition begins with the sound of teeming insects and tropical birds high in the canopy, while a lone wind instrument invokes unnameable forces from the undergrowth. Across the track’s seven minutes and twenty seconds, Beacon Bloom pack a huge number of elements into an apparently simple structure: swung, tribal drums playing off against a straight synth line; signature vocals that wave around like cellophane, and an epic arpeggio that wouldn’t be out of place on the first volume of Northern Exposure. The result is transcendent in an oddly specific way, conjuring the breakdown of consensus reality.
The one-take video is a fever dream of vivid colour and fantastical characters, set in a stunning New Zealand backdrop – think Alice in Wonderland meets Steampunk. Those paying close attention to the video may discover an offramp to the Beacon Bloom Metaverse, a space that blends narratives and virtual worlds; cryptocurrency and NFTs; live and virtual shows; and a memeplex of mysteries moving through the virtual world to the physical and back again.
“Nothing Here But You” was premiered in VR at ALTERED STATE – a virtual art event by NFT marketplace Charged Particles. The event featured 10 artists, crypto giveaways and a music performance by live house act IMT. The video allows collectors to gain special access to the Beacon Bloom metaverse or to own a unique piece of Beacon Bloom history. Examples of NFT’s include a complete alternate take of the music video in a different location, limited edition physical merchandise and lifetime access to shows. Buyers can also purchase an NFT that includes the band flying anywhere in the world to play a private show for them. 10% of the initial sale of each NFT will be donated to charities including The Orangutan Foundation and Regenerative Agriculture.
Rather than competing for grandeur, Uone and Jamie Stevens’ remix explores the original’s more sinister elements. Beacon Bloom’s vocals are transformed into a back-alley whisper, and only the shyest harmonic elements escape the remixers’ knife, twisting suspiciously and always just out of focus. Even the sampled birds sound afraid at the bleakness of their new environment. But the result of this ruthless approach is an outstanding groove that pulls you along into the darkness until you lose all track of time. This is the version for fans of Alex Smoke, dissociatives and the glory days of minimalism.
Born in North West London, Treasure’s family relocated to the Countryside in the early 2000’s trading the busy city life for the suburban serenity, a feeling present throughout his catalogue. His laidback production and genre-merging tendencies provide a nostalgia based backdrop for his lush soulful harmonies. Treasure, a.k.a Kelvin Beyioku, wears his emotions on his sleeve. He transverses his musical world with this heightened sense of vulnerability, creating a space where he and the listener can rest at ease with no fear of judgement.
His latest EP PLEBEIAN is an expression of the colour in his mind, with trippy, calming elements dripping in style and originality. Exploring mellow sounds, feelings and moments of candid expression., Treasure confides, “Self- produced over the last two years, these are tracks that haven’t found a place on any pending projects, but I feel like they deserved to see the light of day.”
“Conversations with Friends” was inspired by the book by Sally Rooney. Gentle sunshine acoustic guitar flows through the song in fluid waves against the tides of Treasure’s echoing vocals, which are unmistakably golden and smooth. The track slowly peels off its layers revealing shimmering backing production elements, creating dreamy, delicate aura. Treasure shares, “The intro of the song is about a new-found confidence, in contradiction to the extremely vulnerable lines in “Heal me // Believe.” Sonically opening up your senses to all of the aspects of his music, it feels calm and passionate, oozing in personal conviction. Embracing the fluttering guitar and slowly initiating his experimental side.
“What We Do in the Dark” starts with tropical subtle keys, somewhat minimalistic, with Treasure’s signature production surprises. The track moves into a trap-esque beat – cool and calm Treasure combines rap with his silky vocals. Engineering and producing the entire project himself, Treasure explains, “this project was mostly an exercise in sound design, I wanted to see how far I could push the idea of merging genres and styles into a cohesive project.”

‘The Time Traveller’ is a record born by a collaboration between Perdurabo and Tomat (!K7), nine tracks written in 2014 and rediscovered on a hard drive during last year’s lockdown. The album focuses on the idea of OOBE – out-of-body experience, a phenomenon in which a person perceives the world from a location outside their physical body. The inspiration comes from reworking the same music compositions at different periods in the artist’s life; each track represents a personal journey and singular OOBE. Music becomes the binder, capable of taking us far during a year of loneliness and immobility.
Talking about ‘Unleash The Revolution’, Perdurabo says; “It’s a dynamic, straight, and in some ways unforgettable composition. It always gave me the feeling that something big was coming. During my countless flights between Italy and Berlin, I was often listening to the demos on my headphones, and every time this track started, everything looked bright and powerful – it made me want to unleash a revolution”.
Raina Sokolov-Gonzalez is a singer/composer based in Brooklyn, New York. Born into a family of musicians, music was Raina’s first language and it runs deep within her veins. Rooted in Jazz and R&B, the songwriter invites us into her unique sonic world with harmonic nuance and lyrical poetry.
Raina’s cross-genre style is built from the bottom up. With improvisation as a starting point for her songs, Raina draws on her emotionality and leans into her perception of the world around, uncovering hidden depths within daily life and articulating personal truth with vulnerability and bravery. Her latest single “40 Days” is a subtly complex story about a struggle to let go. Some of that holding is portrayed and experienced as strength, “I won’t let it go, let it strip all my pride”, a stubborn vigilance. Later in the song, that same holding takes form as an unhealthy attachment, “I fought for you when I knew it wasn’t right.” It’s hard to let go and it’s especially hard to let go of people who have hurt you, as backwards as that may seem. At the core of “40 Days” is the desire to let go, to be soft, to live in expansive harmony, and the accompanying choir embodies that desire. Community, shared truth and recognition set us free.
The single is a slow burn. Flickering with a tender tempo, the intro and verses keep us close; their delicate specificity is complimented by the fullness and warmth of the chorus and choir. Jamaican reggae star Jesse Royal unveils his latest single “RichForever” featuring VybzKartel.
The single comes with a feature from dancehall’s world boss Vybz Kartel and is accompanied by the pre-order to the album, due for release on the 11th June, which also features Protoje as heard on previous release ‘LionOrder’.

genre-blending duo Pink Elefants are releasing their new single “Sound of Violence” & the accompanying music video. PopWrapped exclusively premiered the single & video, complimenting the duo’s “dynamic and out-of-the-box musicality” that shines through on this release.
“Sound of Violence” is an intoxicating lo-fi number that fuses atmospheric hip-hop production with melodic pop hooks. Speaking on the lyrical inspiration for the song, the band writes, “the observer in the song narrates as if they are in some lavish party in the hills. At first the party seems perfect until you look closely and peel back the layers. As the veneer begins to decay we can all start to see the darkness underneath.” While the song was originally written pre-pandemic, many of the lyrical elements also mirror the way in which the past year has exposed many of the corrupt elements of our world and how being a passive bystander is no longer an option— the veneer has been ripped away and we are having to confront the more sinister truths of society.
Pink Elefants is the project of long-time friends Finch (Flores) and Illeven (Joshua Matthew). The Maryland-based duo are experts at defying genre norms, often combining hints of old school hip-hop and Top 40 pop elements with their alternative rock backgrounds. The band name was inspired by the “Pink Elephants on Parade” sequence in Disney’s Dumbo (1941) and much like the transformation of the elephants in that scene, the band’s ethos is to be ever-evolving with their sound and the world around them.
The band made their debut as Pink Elefants in 2019 and have continued to pump out a steady stream of singles since. Pink Elefants’ true passion lies in the creation of the music — “writing together in this group brings back a lot of fun for us,” the duo write. “The limitations are removed and we can just write without worrying too much about all the other hoopla that comes along with being in a musical entity with business-like endeavors. This project is a dream team of passionate and hungry musical virtuosos.” Over this past year, Pink Elefants have launched a nightly Facebook series where they perform a mix of original songs and covers, which has led to a passionate tight-knit fanbase dubbed the ‘Elefam.’

The tinier the pieces, the bigger the puzzle. As if sonically gluing together a mosaic, Nashville-based Glass Dove assembles sweeping alternative pop anthems D.I.Y. from shards of live guitar, MIDI, and synths. Those pieces also mirror two distinct halves of founder Josh Benus’s personality. Combining artistic seriousness with clever intuition, the lifelong musician will dissect a turning point in his life by sharing a granular detail—whether he likens old friends to “a pack of cigarettes we smoked just yesterday” or compares arguments to “long-winded games of chess that you never win.” In 2021, the vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer explores the push-and-pull of personal and universal dichotomies on his independent full-length debut, Half Life Wilderness, produced by Owen Biddle [The Roots, John Legend]. He spent the past three years molding, tinkering, and shaping the music to comprise a whole greater than the sum of its parts, yet reverent of every nuance.
For as otherworldly as the final product feels, it all began in the most organic way possible in the Smoky Mountains during a week of writing and recording…
“It started with me and Owen in a room with a laptop, a microphone, a MIDI controller, and a pocket synth,” recalls Josh. “It completely blossomed from there into something meaningful for me. The sound is meant to be much bigger than that. I try to approach it from a holistic standpoint and ask questions like, ‘Is this cathartic for me? Is it universal? Will it be cathartic for somebody else? How does it relate to what’s going on in the world?’ There’s a very serious side of the refinement process. I’m always dedicating myself to the craft of songwriting, getting better, and learning from the past in order to do something new.”
For as much as his past impacted the process, it really marked the start of a new chapter for Josh as Glass Dove. With Owen, he built a sound that’s as intimate as it is infectious, integrating this mélange of detuned acoustic guitars, vintage synths, and off-kilter beats. In essence, it sounds like starting over—but for the first time…
“Half-Life Wilderness is expansive,” he goes on. “I’ve always loved periods of time where art highlighted what was going on in that era—whether it’s in society or in the artist’s life. With music, you juxtapose colors. I love sad songs that sound happy. I detuned an acoustic guitar to C-standard and wrote on that for some songs. The rest was written on old synths. Pop punk singer-songwriter and actress, Maddie Glass, is hitting the ground running with her debut single, “Livin in 2021” off of her upcoming EP, Thank You For Breaking My Heart. Born and raised in and around New York City, Maddie grew up acting and performing all around Manhattan in various Off Broadway productions where she found her love for the craft at a young age and never looked back. Attending NYU Tisch, Maddie Glass soon began songwriting; crafting witty, candid and relatable lyrics over a 2000’s throwback sound.

She confides, “Livin In 2021” is a very vulnerable song for me to release because I discuss my personal struggles with anxiety, body image, eating disorders, which many people deal with in some way”. The song also details how unfortunate it is that women particularly often feel unsafe walking home late at night by themselves, which Maddie Glass has herself also experienced.
