Nightshifts is the recording project of Toronto based songwriter Andrew Oliver. He works his magic across vintage synths, groovy guitars and drum machines during late-night recording sessions to create soulful and cosmic pop tunes. Nightshifts delivers slow-building progressions of phased synthesizers and delay-coated guitars to create powerful atmospheres that feel close-at-home. The project is both exciting and complex with a fast-growing reputation for kaleidoscopic production and soulful songwriting. His music carries an underlying theme of imbalance and the challenge to stay present, with the musician confiding, “I very often get caught up thinking about past situations, and looking towards future ones. I write a lot about this imbalance. And ironically, the times I feel most in the moment are when I’m working on music.” Aiming to create music to teleport you to paradise, even if it’s just for three minutes, Nightshifts creates a space to both boogie and feel introspective, whilst learning and feeling something new with each and every turn.
His new track “20s” is a feel-good, nostalgic song dripping in shimmering synths contoured with pumps of electro keys and a tight beat popping in funk guitar and pure energy. Featuring sleek, hip-hop bars from The Game, the single has done a 360 cycle. After meeting The Game outside a hotel at just nine years old, 20 years later Oliver saw the rapper advertising a search for independent artists to collaborate with. Oliver shares, “I dm’d him with the story and the picture of when we met. He said he remembered and was down to collaborate on the song. I sent over the music, and the next day got his verse back. It was surreal to hear him, 16 years later after we met, on my track. And a funny coincidence that the song was called 20s.”
Having garnered millions of streams on Spotify alone, Nightshifts has made a name for himself through his unique and innovative sound. Following the release of a remix of Bon Iver’s “Michicant,” Oliver was praised by Justin Vernon himself, further propelling the Canadian artist into the limelight and giving him a taste of what he is truly capable of.

Each rework brings the original to life in a totally different way, with DJ and Producer legend DJ Paulette being the first to give a glimpse of the forthcoming EP. For nearly three decades, DJ Paulette has held residencies at some of the most prestigious clubs and best parties in the world. From The Hacienda, Ministry of Sound to Pacha and Pikes, her selections are on forever on point. No matter which genre or room she plays in, she shines and headlines above her own star and is a champion of great music.
On collaborating on this project, DJ Paulette explains; “I chose to do this remix because I love the lyrics, the song and the sentiment and wanted to strip it back and make it jack”
“I love what DJ Paulette has done with the track! It feels cool and stripped back and I love the illusiveness of the vocals.” Abisha says. “I wanted to create a remix package full of powerful and influential females as there is still a long way to go in achieving gender equality in the industry and it’s an honour to collaborate with a legend like Paulette.”
Women are often told not to discuss their need for sex and rather to “please the man.” My collaborator, Raechell Tamaryn, drew inspiration from a sexual journey she went on following a breakup for our new single, “Roller Coaster.” Take away my patience, give me your vibrations. “Roller Coaster“ is all about blatantly expressing one’s needs and desires without the fear of judgment to fully experience pleasure. Watch the accompanying music video on YouTube. Raechell felt like a broken glass jar with sun rays seeping through as she wrote this song, a mood she channeled during the writing process. She took a fun, honest, and sensual approach to capture how it feels to be in control of a relationship’s course. We hope that you feel empowered as you listen. “Roller Coaster“ was written to be danced to and enjoyed in the moment! FVZ |
Accompanying his new solo single, JAMIE PERRETT, is pleased to release the official video for: “Angel of Santiago”.
WATCH THE VIDEO HERE
Part love-song, part-travelogue, Jamie Perrett’s new single is a picture-perfect postcard about finding your way in the world. And now “Angel of Santiago” is accompanied with a semi-autobiographical video, with its narrative partly inspired by a precarious car journey Perrett experienced travelling between Barcelona and Nimes.
“A short song but a much greater love story. Written in tribute to an under-appreciated guardian angel, “Angel of Santiago” chronicles the mistakes and pitfalls to be encountered along the perilous journey of life…. I could not have survived without the (lost) Angel of Santiago””
Read more about the video at Vive Le Rock here. Straying at just over the 2 minute mark, Perrett exercises his family trait for potent, poignant alternative-pop pearlers on this assured new solo release. “You appear like a gift from god, now i’m lost without you” he coos, on a chorus destined to lodge itself in memory for some time.
The “Angel of Santiago” was primarily recorded at 123 Studios in Peckham with additional overdubs made later at his home in London. With Vocals, Guitars, Synth, and Percussion performed by Jamie Perrett, its chiming backing vocals were provided by Jenny Maxwell, Jake Woodward added drums, whilst Jamie’s brother Peter Perrett Jnr handled Bass duties. Mixed by Tony Draper and mastered by Brian Lucey at Magic Garden, the single was also self-produced by Perrett.
The new video arrives as Perrett prepares for a Headline show at The Grace in London this Saturday night (2 Oct) that will see him perform an array of new solo songs for the first time. Speaking about what to expect from the show Perrett says:
“I’m very excited about the gig. I have a group of cool cats. Eduardo (the drummer) I met on a dating app for musicians called ‘Homeless’ (ha ha I’m joking) and Eliot (Guitar) I met in a previous life. My brother Peter Jnr is on bass duties. I think a lot of the material people haven’t heard yet. The 1st 2 singles I released are at the poppier side of my spectrum. But then there’s heavier stuff like ‘Lion Share’ ‘Master Of Destruction’ When You Hear Her Name’ and ‘Doe-Eyed Disaster’. I’m looking forward to playing on the stage again. Come down!”
Justin Payne, also known as StaJe has been on quite the journey, a journey that for some would be deemed as too much, when the trials, obstacles and hard times are all but never ending, some perish, some turn back and others crumble under the pressure of life’s darkest corners.
However, Justin Payne did the opposite. Born in Columbia, South Carolina, the artist has always had a knack for music. The main decision being to move away from everything he knew in search of his dreams and goals.
Justin left for the entertainment metropolis known as Los Angeles, a city scoped in history of darker stories and not just bright movie lights. The artist found out the hard way that this was not going to be an easy task by any stretch of the imagination. StaJe then ended up in Los Angeles’s most unforgiving and soul destroying place of refuge, Skid Row. An unthinkable place for most people, Justin had nothing but a dream, he stayed there for months, miraculously finding food when he needed it. Incredibly an old friend from Justin’s college days had moved into town and the two reconnected, Justin was kindly given his sofa as a place to stay, then within a short time found a job. In a sudden and unbelievable turn of events Justin was finally in a better place. He exceeded in his job, whilst still keeping music as the centerpiece of focus. The artist was earning a good income which then enabled him the opportunity to focus on what was important. Music.
Opening up his own recording studio and Launching his record label Fam Entertainment, StaJe has many exciting plans when it comes to music. After releasing his Debut Single “Keisha” and landing #15 on the Top 150 Indi Global Billboard Charts and #54 on the Top 100 Global Billboard Charts a lot has changed for the former homeless man. Expanding his area of expertise to also support, nurture and grow upcoming talent, artists can most definitely learn a thing or two from StaJe.
