INsiders Guide: Kailaya, stevexcooper, Gavin Haley, JACQUEES, HEADSHRINKERS, HAVET, TRAV, Tomas Ferdinand, Talkless, RICH….

Just in time for Pride Month, Kailaya speaks on embracing her own sexuality with her new single, “Outrageous.” Blending elements of pop and hip-hop for her newest song, the queer artist uses an up-tempo trap beat to provide the background for her strikingly powerful vocals. “Outrageous” is now available on digital music platforms worldwide.

Kailaya proves with this recent single that she is unafraid to open up about her experiences coming out. The R&B artist addresses her previous lovers, revealing that past relationships didn’t fulfill her because she had yet to get to know herself. Kailaya describes “Outrageous” as “my coming out journey and looking back light-heartedly at all the little hints throughout my life.” Promoting individuality and self-love is a central theme of Kailaya’s music, and this latest single is no different. “’Outrageous’ is my story of the acceptance, love, and strength that followed me out of the closet,” Kailaya explains. The single was produced by Aubren Elaine, co-written with Paulina Levitan, and mastered by Dariush Apfelthaler. Kailaya will be releasing a music video for the single on June 14th which features an talented queer dance crew as well.

Solidly embossed within the music business, Brooklyn based artist stevexcooper has credits in writing, recording and performing, with his experience spanning nearly 20 years. His former projects have secured both an indie deal and a major deal (Atlantic Records), as well as collaborations with Grammy nominees (Ricky Reed, Nolan Lambroza) and supporting artists like M.I.A., Royal Blood, Incubus and Biffy Clyro, verifying his incessant drive and indisputable skill.

Launched in 2020, the stevexcooper artist project was created as a companion piece to his production work in New York, London, and Los Angeles, with Cooper sharing, “My goal is to develop an international sonic identity across the production work and artist releases.” Best described as left-wing pop and rap, his music bends stereotypical genres, creating dynamic beats and a uniquely exclusive sound. “I grew up on Aphex Twin and Squarepusher and other artists who captured the sound of worlds breaking,” Cooper says. “I’d like to think my music does that, too.”

Following the release of “Never silent.” with LIFEOFTHOM, Cooper unveils “WATER WINGS” with acclaimed artist, Rothstein. The track is off of the pair’s upcoming collaborative EP, What Are You Made Of? Showcasing open-hearted tales of human connection in all its glory, romance, awkwardness, and uncertainty, the music was written in Brooklyn over the course of a year and a half.

Cooper shares, “This is my first producer project release that’s about relationships. I’m excited about the prospect of not only switching genres with abandon, but also switching message and content.” The uptempo “WATER WINGS” demonstrates Rothstein’s polished pop songwriting over Cooper’s off-kilter anthems. Cooper continues, “They’re pop tracks but without straight up pop sounds. The structures are familiar, but the guts of the place are new.” Delicate chiming synths and syncopated beats provide the backdrop for Rothstein’s glossy vocals, as he sings “It’s contagious, the way that you’re so sure we’ll be alright.”

Expertly tapping into and memorialising a certain place and time in history, the latest single from the Black Country-based newcomers is a lofty expanse of a track that merges spoken-word lyrics with velvety vocal harmonies and opulent stretches of instrumentals.

As gentle acoustic guitar strums and skillfully-crafted poetry descend into an exhilarating crescendo of steady and majestic drums, jubilant riffs and increasingly urgent vocals, “The Sea Has No Friends” ingeniously boasts the band’s breadth. Straying slightly from the rip-roaring post-punk of their earlier singles, the new track stays true to the band’s knack for capturing the imagination and evoking the sights and sounds of a specific — and at times long forgotten — moment in time.

Of the story behind the track, vocalist and songwriter Garran Hickman explains:

“It was quite the reflective day when I wrote that piece. Words and melody were both written in half an hour. It’s just two entwined memories really: one is of my older relatives sharing stories of their loved ones in the war, and secondly the opening line, ‘the sea has no friends’, are words my dad used to describe the sea.”

Produced and mixed by Gavin Monoghan at Magic Garden Studios in Wolverhampton and engineered by Liam Radburn, the track comes as an astute follow up to the band’s most recent single “Monocle”

Following on the heels of a series of single releases, “Rush “ is the final EP track to be revealed and showcases the sensitivity and spaciousness that surrounds Lover, i’m down for it. Tomas describes it as “a song about standing still and evaluating what you have. Stefano is a singer, songwriter and piano virtuoso who fuses soul, pop and classical for an enthralling musical journey. The talented songwriter’s music is marked by hope, love and connection in the aim to heal.

Born in Soveria Mannelli, Italy, Stefano took to music at an early age and began classical piano  training at age seven. Brand new alternative-rock duo – GRAMMS – erupt onto the scene with their debut single: “Shut Up A Second”.

Biting through a massive mix of aggressive guitars, thunderous reverb and vociferous vocals, GRAMMS aren’t ones for a polite introduction.

Flecked with classic alt-rock stylings but taking an innovative approach to production, their debut single “Shut Up A Second” calls to mind a blustering row between Royal Blood and The Black Keys. Touching on decaying empathy and the power divide between ruler and ruled, the track is an immense anthem with a sting.

Of the story behind the song, GRAMMS explain:

“The song explores what partisanship is doing to our ability to empathise. We used the trope of ‘Rich man / Poor man’ to explore the issue in the verses: the first verse depicts a disgruntled underclass, while the second focuses on a nervous ruling elite. The chorus is about how incessant partisan noise from the media ultimately erodes our natural empathy.”
