Anna Kendrick is set to make her directorial debut with the upcoming true crime thriller entitled ‘The Dating Game’. Kendrick will also star in and produce the film, which comes from the script of Ian MacAllister McDonald and is based on the true story Cheryl Bradshaw, a contestant on the 80s TV matchmaking show ‘The Dating Game’. During the episode she appeared on, she chose a bachelor by the name of Rodney Alcala, whom she never ended up going on a date with, and was later found out to be a serial killer.
Anna Kendrick spoke about the opportunity of ‘The Dating Game’; “I’ve loved this script from the moment I read it, and while I was obviously thrilled to be playing the character of [Cheryl], I felt so connected to the story, the tone, and the themes around gender and intimacy, that when the opportunity came up to direct the film, I jumped at it. It feels meant to be. The support I’ve received already from Stuart Ford and everyone at AGC, Vertigo, and BoulderLight has been inspiring and empowering.”
