Based on entertainment journalist Michael Ausiello’s 2017 memoir, ‘Spoiler Alert’ follows the relationship between Michael (Jim Parsons) and his photographer husband Kit Cowan (Ben Aldridge) from its beginning to its sad end. When it comes to Hollywood, tragedy and romance go hand in hand.

‘Spoiler Alert’ is a story about Michael Ausiello (Parsons), who is a nice guy who writes about television. While at a club one night, he meets Kit Cowan (Aldridge), and they both connect instantly and fall madly in love. As they grow closer, Kit discovers he has terminal cancer. The film chronicles this true story as Michael must deal with the struggles of facing the loss of a loved one.

Parsons and Aldrige are absolutely solid in this tear jerking drama, and those tears are earned by their grounded performances of the brilliantly written screenplay. ‘Spoiler Alert’ is given that extra bit of warmth, with the heartfelt performances from co-stars, Sally Field and Bill Irwin. They add that extra touch of both laughter and tears. Another honorable mention has to go to the music heard throughout this film, the songs definitely carry the key moments of the story. During this screening I found myself wanting to shazaam almost all of them lol.

‘Spoiler Alert’ is a fantastic romantic drama, one that is probably at the top of my list of one of the best I’ve seen in the last few years. It reminds us all that we have a lot of amazing people in our lives to be grateful for, and to keep loving because you never know what life has waiting for us around the corner.

‘Spoiler Alert’ hits cinemas Feb 9th.
