Jenna Ortega is everywhere lately, from projects like Netflix’s ‘You’, to Ti West’s ‘X’ and of course the much talked about ‘Wednesday’ series which is also on Netflix. She’s back once again in Scream VI alongside Melissa Barrera. During there time on the previous Scream film, Barrera and Ortega formed a sisterly bond which Barrera spoke about in an interview with CinemaBlend in which she said;

“It’s so funny because from the moment we met it just felt so easy and it felt so natural. We met on Zoom for the first time and it was just there. And I think that’s why Matt and Tyler were like ‘These are the girls.’ Because it had just felt like we had known each other for forever. I am a very protective older sister, I have three younger sisters myself in real life. So the idea of this older sister doing anything and going above and beyond to protect her younger sister was something that felt very natural to me”.

Melissa Barrera is a Mexican actress and singer. She has a huge following in Mexico, and is known for roles in the telenovelas Siempre tuya Acapulco (2013), Tanto amor (2015), and the Netflix series Club de Cuervos (2017). She’s now making a name for herself outside of Mexico, she is known for her lead roles in the Starz drama series Vida, the musical film In the Heights (2021), Netflix series Keep Breathing (2022) and of course the current slasher films Scream (2022) and now 2023’s Scream VI.

The two have such a strong bond and chemistry that Melissa Barrera would love to join Jenna in the hit Netflix series ‘Wednesday’. Responding to the idea of Melissa having a cameo in season two, Jenna told Extra: “Could you imagine? I don’t know how that would work.”

Melissa then said: “I would do anything. I would do a cameo and just be like, ‘Yo,’ but Wednesday has no sisters — Wednesday has a brother.” Jenna responded: “I’m sure she would rather have a sister than a brother. Anything other than Pugsley.”

Now the pair grace the big screen once again in the latest ‘Scream’ film, and Melissa spoke about the film and starring along side Ortega once again; “Playing Jenna’s sister is so easy. It just comes so naturally to love her and want to protect her. And we get in the sixth movie, we get so many good moments together… There’s a proper arc to the sisters’ story in this movie… It’s such a beautiful reversal of roles…”Both sisters trying to protect each other and, and, like, full acceptance by the end, you know? “And which is kind of creepy, but also amazing that they just are in it together and, and, you know, it’s a beautiful thing that we’ve gotten two movies so far to get to explore that relationship.”

Last years ‘Scream’ was successful because it took the old and built a foundation for the new. Scream 6 capitalizes on that, focusing on the return of Gale Weathers and Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere) as the legacy characters, and letting the “new” cast do their thing. While you won’t get to see Neve Campbell’s Sidney in this installment, the legacy cast and the new crew manage to carry this story and make it just as appealing as it’s predecessor.

Hopefully we get to see much more of Ortega and Barrera, who have cemented themselves a very successful and bright future in Hollywood.
