Electronic music innovator Eprom, revered for his boundary-pushing work in sonic and visual arts, is thrilled to release of his long-awaited LP, Syntheism, his first album in a decade, on June 9th. Eprom, birth name Alexander Dennis, has captivated audiences and critics alike with his multi-faceted sound that eschews genre labels in favor of raw computer outputs, experimental techniques, breakbeat manipulation, and complex rhythms that evoke tension and release.
Following the album’s release, Eprom takes his unparalleled “Robotics” live show on the road with a one-night-only headlining event at Denver’s Mission Ballroom on July 29th. This show marks the debut of “Syntheism Robotics,” a larger-scale interpretation of the inaugural show at The North Warehouse in his hometown of Portland, Oregon. Tickets: https://rb.gy/kd1fv.
“Syntheism Robotics” is a true spectacle of EPROM’s virtuosic talent, showcasing proprietary animatronics as part of the production. The event is an audacious display of EPROM’s utopian vision that combines music and technology, perfectly encapsulating the essence of Syntheism.
Syntheism is more than just an album; it is a rich and complex alternate history in which the drought that preceded the collapse of the Akkadian Empire never occurred. This alternate timeline offers a techno-utopian society with its own distinct culture, languages, and beliefs. Each track from the album is named after an organization contributing to this alternate world’s growth and advancement. The combination of EPROM’s unique sound and the album’s engaging narrative paints a vivid image of an alternative reality.
The Lightning Struck is an indie rock band from Toronto. To watch The Lightning Struck is to be transported to New York’s Lower East Side, sometime between ’69 and ’91. Listen carefully – you can hear the Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, the Ramones and Television.
The Lightning Struck’s sound didn’t happen by accident. In 2000, Loren moved to New York City after listening to the Velvet Underground and Nico one too many times.
After 20 years of making music there, Loren returned to Toronto, bringing the New York sound with him. In the spring of 2022, he started The Lightning Struck with old friends Michael Milanetti and Blitz, and they were soon joined by Aussie expat drummer Liam Baidon.
Following their euphoric previous single ‘You Shine On’, London synthpop band Magnetic Skies dial up the tension on their new release ‘Suffocate’, out 2nd June.
Set to be released via independent label ReprinT Records, the track captures a dark and fervid energy, with a sense of everything crashing down around your ears. Lead singer Simon Kent’s vocals stand out among the soundscape, as desperation and longing creeps in. And be sure to watch the accompanying music video, a striking yet simple black and white setting that matches the track’s intense atmosphere.
‘The song is about a relationship that breaks down. At the start, everything is incredible and you throw yourself head-first into that and nothing else matters, you just want this dream to come true. Then things change, reality sets in and everything around that falls apart to devastating effect. We wanted a dark, agitated, claustrophobic video – devoid of colour – to complement the emotions in the song.’ – Magnetic Skies
Formed in 2019 with a shared love of 80s synth-driven post-punk by Simon Kent (vocals & keyboards) and Jo Womar (keyboards), Magnetic Skies spent most of that first year locked away in studios, experimenting with material that would evolve into songs released over a set of EPs during 2020. “Dreams And Memories”, “Hold On” and “Into Paradise” all set the tone and showcased the duo’s skill and love of pulsing, vintage analogue synths and pumping bass. 2021 saw the band evolve into a 4-piece, with the recruitment of guitarist Carlos Aguilar and drummer Lenin Alegria. Both are featured on the new recordings, adding a new sonic dimension to the songs.
2022 saw the band supporting sell-out shows for Altered Images, Heaven 17 and ACTORS, as well as releasing five more singles – including a collaboration with BBC 6Music favourites The KVB, resulting in more than 1,000 plays on Amazing Radio in the UK & USA. Three songs were also included on the BBC Radio “Fresh On The Net” mixtape playlists. The band are included on two new compilations of influential electronic artists from around the globe, “Concrete And Chrome” and “Generation Blitz Extended”.
Magnetic Skies’ debut album, “Empire Falling”, is set for release in autumn 2023.

LA-based singer, songwriter, and “the possible lovechild of Brittney Spears, Lady Gaga and Madonna” – Tash Blake delivers a new single, energetic electro-pop anthem “DNA” with an accompanying lyric video.
Tash explains that “DNA” is so much more than your biological instructions, but a way of living. “DNA” is short for Don’t Need Approval, and serves as a reminder that you are unique, and a person’s individuality is their superpower – no permission required.
“DNA is the set of distinct qualities and characteristics that make us who we are. This song also stands for “Don’t Need Approval.” Our individuality is our superpower and no one needs approval from others to be themselves. The lyrics serve as a reminder that you are special, valuable, and unique just the way you are. Don’t change for anyone!” – Tash Blake
With lyrics that are forward and in your face like the legends that influenced her, Tash takes an edgy path to becoming a beacon of power and inspiration for women today.
Growing up immersed in dance and musical theater, Tash proves she is undeniably one to watch. Tash released her debut single, “Mannequin”, last December. A dynamic, multi-layered track accompanied by a stunning music video dropped last month and has amassed over 3.1 million views. The visual gives major fem-fatale vibes to empower anyone that’s been robbed of their identity within a manipulative relationship. Last month, Tash followed up with her second single “So Bad Together” as she prepares for her debut project due out later this year.

PRE-SAVE BEEN A LONG YEAR VOL.1’ HERE
An otherworldly folk song about the injustices that hold humanity down on planet Earth, the Montreal singer-songwriter channels Thom Yorke-esque vocals via glistening Mazzy Star-like arrangements to begin a quietly powerful campaign for change.
At its heart, “Eye For An Eye” is a protest song that questions the merits of playing one’s part in society when a society is built on structural inequalities, false narratives, and false promises for changes that never come. Beginning with a series of unassuming, open-ended questions, Nicol’s latest single slowly constructs an understated critique of systemic oppression. As Nicol explains:
“In “Eye For An Eye”, I question the point of playing one’s part in a society that is built on systemic oppression and false narratives. I also try to articulate a feeling of exhaustion and frustration I feel at playing along for so long, while major social issues go unaccounted for by those in power. Ultimately, the song emerged out of an undulating subterranean impulse I’ve had for a long time, which can best be described in a question: if a social system is designed to keep people disenfranchised and distracted while those in power benefit, how long before citizens of that society get so fed up they revolt? “
Suffused with Orwellian imagery and told with the world-wearied observations of someone who has seen and lived it all, evocative couplets like “What’s this bitter taste / Chewing stones with broken teeth / We want the truth / They feed us hard deceit” ripple with disquiet and will leave a lasting tang.
Arriving as the band’s grittiest, stickiest offering to-date, it sees Parliamo’s usual bright rhythms and funky basslines, traded-in for howling Suede-esque electric guitars, low-slung hooks and unconventional choruses.
Like a migraine growing under the noon-day sun, “Matters Like” has a burbling, off-kilter intensity quite at odds with the brilliant sunshine that baked the Summer of 2022 in which it was written. Finding nuanced inspiration during those mind-melting times in the Fontaines D.C. track “Roman Holiday” and the spring reverb bass of The Last Shadow Puppets’ second record, the band’s Jack Dailly and Finn Freeburn Morrison began assimilating both into a new track that would mark a moody left-turn for the band.
A song about finding confidence in a new relationship and the overcast feelings that can come hand-in-hand with it, vocalist Jack Dailly explains:
“”Matters Like” has a moodier sound than most of our previous output, with its screaming guitars and echoing hi-hats. This mood fits well with the lyrics, as the song touches on feelings of uncertainty and internal conflict. It’s a song about insecurity in a fledgling relationship and the plethora of emotions which come with getting to know more about someone than you might have bargained for.”
Weaving their straight-up songwriting and babbling instrumentals niftily through a heatwave-warped collision of influences, “Matters Like” finds a band pushing the Parliamo sound and enjoying getting a little experimental. The single is released everywhere on 19 May.
tmdistant marks the start of a new era with new single “need to get out of here” // LISTEN HERE
After much teasing across his social media channels in the past few weeks, Essex, UK alternative artist tmdistant has unveiled his new single, “need to get out of here”. Produced by Song Higginson, the track serves as the beginning of a new chapter for the artist.
“need to get out of here” is a considerable departure from his previous releases, which were more inclined towards hyperpop and glitch pop. The song’s energetic indie-pop production contrasts with its powerful lyrics, which explores the rough journey of leaving a toxic relationship.
‘”need to get out of here’ embodies being stuck in a toxic relationship or anything you don’t want to be in but can’t seem to find your way out. I wrote this in a time of need but not knowing what I needed. I got inspiration from seeing my friends being sucked in and out of situationships and struggles with the same people, and the same problems. Sometimes all you need is an escape…” — tmdistant.

A veteran of the Montreal music scene, Patrick Krief has been releasing music for nearly two decades, first as a member of The Dears then via his own projects including Black Diamond Bay and, most recently, his as a solo artist.
Krief’s albums are a rare breed: rock guitar-based albums where tenderness prevails in the melodies, harmonies, and the rich orchestrations. Trafficking in grandly textured and artfully rendered indie-rock anthems, Krief is clearly a musician who isn’t wary of treading fresh sonic territory.
His music evokes the rich British tradition of the Beatles to the sultry baritone of Leonard Cohen. Topped with ambitious production that sounds warm and intimate, there truly isn’t very much out there like what Patrick Krief has created. And it’s refreshing, to say the least.
On the heels of being announced as support for Dermot Kennedy’s latest Canadian tour dates this fall, today alternative-pop band Valley – Rob Laska, Mickey Brandolino, Alex Dimauro, and Karah James – release their latest single, “Have A Good Summer (Without Me)” through Capitol Records/Universal Music Canada. This sad summery bop is the fourth single off the band’s upcoming sophomore album Lost In Translation and the countdown is on with only three weeks until it’s release on June 23 – Stream.
“Have A Good Summer (Without Me)” captures a very specific type of heartache, one which is contradicted by sunshine and the expectations of the season. A theme that’s been explored by the likes of Lana Del Rey, Regina Spektor and Taylor Swift, Valley interprets that feeling of longing on their own terms, singing, “If you fall for somebody new, do everything we used to do, I hope it gets you thinking about me,” which if you’ve ever experienced a summer break-up, hits deep. On the track, Karah James describes, “the summer in our minds is a romanticized version of life. Love and its adventures are heightened with the heat and the water and the sunshine. The blow of losing someone before those precious few months of the year is devastating to say the least. ‘Have A Good Summer (Without Me)’ is loving them so much, you will let them go.”
“Have A Good Summer (Without Me)” follows three previously released tracks, continuing to build anticipation for the upcoming sophomore album, including “Throwback Tears” which kicked off the album announcement and was covered by Kerala folk/indie group When Chai Met Toast and shared on Rolling Stone India, “Good, but not together” that was released alongside a live performance video and “Break For You” which has been a fan favorite as they perform it on their North American tour and recently appeared on the Canada Top 50 Viral chart on Spotify. So far, the three previously released tracks alone have garnered over 10 million global streams.
Following multiple Monstercat fan-favourites including “Vertigo” and “Flying,” house tastemaker Curbi returns to the label today with his new chill house single, “Quick Highs (feat. Helen).”
From the ripe age of sixteen, Curbi has effortlessly taken over the house circuit. His first Monstercat release in 2021 propelled him to new heights, leading to all four of his records on the label sitting in his top 10 and amassing over 60 million streams on Spotify collectively. Since his label debut, his monthly Spotify listenership has tripled, garnering new fans from across the globe. Curbi has garnered the likes of industry heavyweights including Tiësto, Martin Garrix, and landed collaborations with Zedd and Tchami. Finding fans outside of the electronic circuit, Curbi teamed up with Supercell, one of Europe’s leading game development companies, by creating their “Brawl Stars Anthem.”
Leaning towards a softer side, Curbi set out to create a song that can be appreciated while relaxing and creating lasting memories, beyond his typical club and festival stylings. Always aiming to explore beyond his usual repertoire of heavy club anthems, “Quick Highs” embodies that intent with its catchy melodies from singer-songwriter Helen, euphoric basslines, and soothing synths.
Curbi shares, “‘Quick Highs’ is a nice blend of my chill/vibey sound with some deeper and more thoughtful elements. Working with Helen on this in the studio was a bit more of a different experience, as we usually send everything over online as the track is progressing. I think the different approach of us being in a room together and connecting from scratch gave a different vibe. I love it!”
Curbi continues to captivate new audiences while he stakes his dominance globally with performances around the world. He has over 13 upcoming sets, including Tomorrowland on the Monstercat stage, Parookaville, and his own curated event, ‘Seeing Is Believing,’ at Melkweg, to name a few. Fans can catch him next at Emporium Festival in the Netherlands on June 3rd. Curbi’s momentum is not slowing down as he proves he’s more than an artist but an entrepreneur too, showcased in the versatile names he has signed to his own label.
