The Review: Christopher Nolan’s Story On The Father of The Atomic Bomb ‘Oppenheimer’

Cillian Murphy is J. Robert Oppenheimer in OPPENHEIMER, written, produced, and directed by Christopher Nolan.

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer is an epic thriller that thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it. It tells the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the man who would eventually become known as the father of the atomic bomb. It stars Cillian Murphy as the titular character in one of the most profound and uniquely brilliant crafted biographical thriller’s.

‘Oppenheimer’ is a movie about the scientists who brought World War II to an end in a horrifying fashion. The movie is so well made it’s currently sitting on an IMDb rating of 8.9 out of 10, it’s yet another standout in Nolan’s career. Every time I watch a Nolan movie it just makes me want another ‘Dark Knight’ film from him, he has a skill of making high-concept action movies with gorgeous spectacle.

What set’s ‘Oppenheimer’ apart from Nolan’s previous movies is this doesn’t contain any dazzling visuals or action sequences, this is purely a performance-driven film, maybe the first of his career. To achieve greatness he needed a stellar cast, and his lead Cillian Murphy gives the performance of his career. Robert Downey Jr. and Florence Pugh are phenomenal in this movie, along with magnificent performances from Matt Damon, Emily Blunt and Jason Clarke. I do feel though Pugh and Blunt didn’t have nearly enough screen time, being the only female characters in the movie.

L to R: Cillian Murphy is J. Robert Oppenheimer and Emily Blunt is Kitty Oppenheimer in OPPENHEIMER, written, produced, and directed by Christopher Nolan.

‘Oppenheimer’ is a cinematic achievement, one that has to be experienced on the big screen, a story that will leave you with a memorable impact.

‘Oppenheimer’ is in cinemas now.
