In a recent interview with Los Angeles Times, The Last of Us co-creator Craig Mazin said that he had begun developing a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie with the original franchise scribe Ted Elliott. Mazin confirmed that Disney liked Elliot’s script for the untitled project.
“We pitched it and thought there’s no way they’re buying it, it’s too weird. And they did,” Mazin said. “And then he wrote a fantastic script and the strike happened and everyone’s waiting around.”
At this point it’s uncertain if this film is connected in anyway to Jerry Bruckheimer’s two movies, one of them being the Margot Robbie-led film.
“We have a very good script,” Bruckheimer shared. “We developed two of them — the one with Margot Robbie and one with a younger cast. The Margot Robbie one needs a little more work. The younger cast one is close. Hopefully we’ll get both of them.”
