The album, co-executive produced by Ryan Tedder, navigates the emotions of falling in love, with McRae emphasizing a shift from her head to her intuition in the creative process.
McRae called the experience of writing the album “one of the most stressful, exciting, nerve racking, and fun things [she has] ever gone through”, saying that she has lived the past year “a little less with [her] head and a little more with [her] intuition” and hoped that listeners can “feel that through the music”.
The standout single “Greedy” displays genuine confidence, incorporating trap-speckled beats reminiscent of Ariana Grande’s ‘Thank U Next’ era, along with a nostalgic nod to Nelly Furtado’s ‘Promiscuous.’ The track dominated the Spotify Viral 50, solidifying McRae’s prowess in the pop arena.
“Cut My Hair” and “Exes” reveal McRae’s newfound versatility, venturing into rockier sounds while maintaining the energy of a young star holding court in the Gen Z pop scene.
The title track, showcases McRae’s deepening vocal husk, hinting at potential growth. While the album doesn’t roll without hiccups, “Think Later” overall presents an artist honing her identity, navigating ambition, and sparkling with intriguing moments. McRae’s journey is apparent, making this album a compelling chapter in her evolving career.
