An album of two-halves that hold together 10 songs of his distinctive Montreal melancholia, it is preceded today with the affecting tribute track “Song For Franz”.

Layered with complex expressions of anger and sadness, “Song for Franz” addresses the way men are conditioned by society to suppress their feelings and the difficulties they face sharing their pain.
“Will this be a story // That ends happily // Like all the movies that I see // Or will the tiny trials add up?” Nicol finds himself questioning here.
While its lyrics are rich with dreamlike imagery of cowboys, movie heroes, and spiritual redemption, the song’s direct inspiration was the loss of Nicol’s own uncle Franz, who took his own life. A crushingly beautiful dedication to his memory, “Song For Franz” serves as a loving tribute but also tells the story of a male protagonist who moves through social conditioning to find exoneration. Expressed through a caricature of toxic masculinity, the song chastises perceptions of male strength and celebrates the bittersweet heartbreak of absolution.
“Song For Franz” follows recent singles “Simple Fires” and “Working On My Tan”, all of which can be found on the new album, ‘Been A Long Year Vol.1 & Vol.2’.
Showing different sides of the same coin, as its title suggests, Nicol’s latest work is made up of two distinct halves. Releasing ‘Volume 1’ earlier this year, it featured tracks including “Hollywood”, “Eye For An Eye” and the Angel Deradoorian-featuring title-track “Been A Long Year”. Together its tracks found an artist focusing on the personally reflective and metaphorical.
And while drawn from similarly thoughtful first-person viewpoints, the songs of its successor, ‘Volume 2’, are far more overt and direct. With songs that comment on the climate emergency, to finding solace in the natural world, to touching tributes to lost loved ones; its songs are noticeably panoramic in their outlook.
Together at last, ‘Volume 1’ and ‘Volume 2’ see Nicol presenting an album-length statement that showcases his deft ability to intermingle the personal and the universal, the minutiae of human emotion and the complexity of global issues. ‘Been A Long Year Vol.1 & Vol.2’ is streaming across all major services from 1st December 2023.

Speaking on the single, Tsatsamis expresses: “Queer relationships are inherently complex with issues surrounding internalised homophobia and shame. Dea Doyle is a singer/songwriter from West London. Born into a household of music, Dea always knew she wanted to be an artist, having written her first song at just nine years old. Inspired by the likes of Carole King, Haim, Fleetwood Mac and Hall & Oates, she offers quick-witted lyrics about life, love and heartbreak, yet always with a memorable chorus.
Her latest single “One For Me” is about an unexpected love. Dea sings about the type of relationship that comes out of nowhere and ends up being the best thing that ever happened to you. Since 2015 The Dream Eaters have evolved from a dream pop band into a full-on video art project with an extensive catalog of weird and darkly humorous music videos of their catchy pop songs. The duo started working together after vocalist Elizabeth LeBaron, originally from Calgary, started working at the same bar as singer/songwriter Jake Zavracky, originally from Boston, in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn NY.
The pair made several EPs before releasing their first full length album We Are A Curse in 2017, followed by their second album, Pagan Love, in 2018, and toured frequently all over the Eastern US and Canada.
In 2019 the pair started working on a web series called “The Dream Eating Freakshow” which they began releasing in September of 2020. Since then the band has released hundreds of videos on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube and have grown a cult fanbase.
They say it takes two to tango, but how many does it take to create a wall of sound, so explosive, and so dynamic it leaves you questioning where the rest of the band is? It only takes two.
Case and point, Mellohoney the post-punk/garage-rock duo hailing from some noisy garage east of Toronto fits the bill. No stone is left unturned when the two of them step foot on stage to create a wall of sound much larger than their member count.
In 2023 Mellohoney began recording their debut EP “Genuine People” with producer Dave Schiffman (PUP, NOBRO, The OBMGs) at Dreamhouse Studios in Toronto.

and recorded for the band. 2024 will see the album release “Genuine People”, where the band never shies away from turning down, as much as they like to crank it up.
Atlanta based artist Hojean is closing out the year with stellar new video, ‘ easily’, the latest in his visual collaboration with Bobby Lee Palmer. The inventive video features vibrant colours, otherworldly costume choices, decade defying hair styles and an incredible song.
Olive Louise is the embodiment of ‘Don’t gild the Lily’. With production heavily laden in soaring strings and floating harmonies, her music has been associated with the dream pop, indie folk, and Americana genres. With a past like hers one might expect her to be less of an open book after losing both of her parents before the age of 15. Instead, Olive’s poetic lyrics feel so intimate it’s as though she is speaking directly to you. “My father used to tell me, “you don’t paint apples red or flowers more vibrant” and that is always in the forefront of my mind. I don’t want my imperfections washed out. You can be soft and have grit.” Sporting a Victorian-like disheveled “au natural” look, her visual world is eerily nostalgic. “The events in my life have forced me through so many huge changes. I never could have seen my life going the way it has. It’s had a profound effect on what I resonate with. I understand not fitting in and moving around and trying to make sense of things without time to, and so that’s the imagery I’m drawn to and the music I write reflects my lived experience.”
Her latest single “Special” was written about an amalgamation of experiences where she felt nervous and out of place and had wished she could feel comfortable as herself rather than instantly wishing to leave. Olive confides, “I created this character in the song, this perfect person, that comes along, understands how I’m feeling, and says “let’s go look at the view” because that’s what I had almost always wished for in those times.”

ringleaders and havoc seekers of SoCal’s surf-rock scene, Sun Room, unleash their new EP At Least I Tried. Barreling in at just over 10 minutes, the four tracks are fast, loud, and lyrically unphased. This EP represents the band letting listeners have an unaltered view of their garage jams and unruly show antics. The majority of At Least I Tried was produced by one of Sun Room’s biggest influences growing up in the California DIY scene, Zac Carper of FIDLAR – Stream.
Kicking off with “At Least I Tried,” a track described by frontman Luke Asgian as “finding fun in the chaos of life and being in a touring band,” Sun Room makes it known that they expect for nothing to go right, but you laugh at it and roll on. He also shares that the next song “Cut My Hair” is “about a summer fling that ends when Fall rolls around, the same time I usually cut my hair.” Again, expressing that sometimes things don’t go as planned, but you power through.
“Kicking Rocks” is the EP’s most laid back, beachy tune, allowing the listener to come up for a breath. But that brief respite quickly subsides to EP closer “Stuck In The Heat.” A metaphorical mic drop sealing the band’s year of explosive growth and unabashed antics, this is a song that you hear and immediately know it has to be Sun Room.
Asgian shares, “It feels like we’ve spent such a large portion of our lives on tour the past couple years, which we’re so stoked on, but it also makes you appreciate Southern California that much more. Whenever we’re on the road, I think we get such a sense of nostalgia for the culture down here and the sound of all the bands from the beach towns we grew up in. Spending so much time driving through farms in the Midwest on tour will really make you want to write something profoundly Californian.”
He continues, “Of course, we have other influences, but the garage rock scene that we all grew up on down here is so ingrained in us and I think that really shows on this EP, which we’re really proud of. The process of writing it was all during a summer at home in between surfs, in the garage. Even if we’re playing arenas one day, we’ll always jam in a garage. It would be really hard to write a Sun Room song in some multi-million dollar studio or rehearsal space.”

Following the successes of his previous two full-band, full-production albums, ‘Meadow Part 1’ finds Tom Jenkins stripping things right back to create an intimate and acoustic record that nods both to his breadth as a songwriter and his life in rural Wales.
Recorded in his sheep barn on his farm in the South Wales Valleys, Tom’s stark, ethereal vocals and finger-strumming guitars give space for the music to bring the remoteness of this landscape to life. Set to be released in two parts, with ‘Meadow Part 1’ arriving as the first offering, Tom Jenkins explains:
“After two full-band albums, it’s back to basics on ‘Meadow’. It’s written, produced and recorded by myself, and I focused more on capturing raw moments through one mic, live takes and purposely keeping the songs as bare as possible.”
With a broad spectrum of classic and modern influences including Elliott Smith, Bob Dylan, Adrianne Lenker and Ben Howard seeping into each of the tracks, Tom adds:
“Each song bears the raw emotions that can only be captured in this style of recording, and captures the ambiance of an old barn with the rain and wind hammering the structure. ‘Meadow’ is simply music captured in the moment and left in its original state.”

A flickering feel-good folk anthem that stitches together wistful vocals and fluttering guitars to create a soundscape that is as soothing as it is sentimental, “Milk and Honey” is a nod from Hollow Coves to “remember the things that matter most.”
With the track’s initial melodies penned while on Australia’s Sunshine Coast with Matt Carins’ brother Ryan (of Australian/English band Greatest Hits). As Ryan Henderson explains:
“I picked up my guitar and we just started improvising melodies together and loads just flowed out. Just a couple of Ryans making music together. It wasn’t until later that Matt and I sat down with the melodies and started to write lyrics to them.”
Paying homage to the idea of living life in the moment instead of waiting for a sign, or the right moment, to appreciate what matters, Ryan adds:
“The melodies inspired us to write about how easy it can be to get caught in the hustle. We wanted to remind people to choose to look for the silver linings. To make the most out of what we’ve got. To see that there is beauty all around us.”

A bouncy, if melancholic track with a catchy hook and an impulsive beat, “I Know, I Know” sees Brookln Dekker (aka Dekker and one-half of the Anglo-American Indie-Folk duo Rue Royale) succeed again as he gets right to the heart of a sentiment that we all know too well.
With heart-on-sleeve vocals, Dekker spins an ill-fated love story, unravelled at the hands of the narrator’s own self-destructive tendencies. “I know I’m a mess and I’ve lost my key,” Dekker sings,“but please don’t let me go, because with you is where I need to be”.

A decade on from the album’s initial release, Oxygen Thief frontman Barry Dolan has unearthed the instrumental recordings of each track and will be making them available on streaming services and on a pay-what-you-want basis via Bandcamp this December.
After years of touring and recording his own brand of acoustic riffery as a solo effort, Oxygen Thief turned full band in 2013 and teamed up with Xtra Mile Recordings to release a re-worked mini album, ‘Accidents Do Not Happen, They Are Caused’.
As the record’s 10th anniversary approached, Barry stumbled across a folder of instrumentals and decided releasing them would be an interesting way to mark the occasion. He explains:
“A few years ago a friend working at an advert agency let me poke around in the massive database of instrumental versions that they had access to for their work. It was amazing to hear songs I know and love without vocals, which made me hear the performances in a new light.
Having made instrumental versions of our own songs in the hope that they might get used to soundtrack a dramatic moment in an episode of Eastenders, or in a particularly gnarly toothpaste advert, I’ve always thought it’s a shame bands don’t make these versions more widely available. So, for the 10th anniversary of my first full-band release, we’re doing just that.”
Faith Richards is an R&B artist, currently based in Paris, France. Having lived a nomadic life, the singer-songwriter has traveled far and wide, living in different countries including the US and the UK, where she soaked up elements of each culture and infused it into her sound today. The artist adds, “I’ve been wanting to share more with my fans about my upbringing. So with this song, I’m excited to be able to share little videos of me explaining my Mormon upbringing and how I wasn’t always this bold!”

“MAYBE” is a song about my best friend of over 14 years. She’s a year older than me, and is now off to university, on the other side of the country. She holds a special place in my heart because she’s been there with me through all of life’s changes. I’ve always been used to seeing her face, and her being an 8 minute drive away, so it hit a certain heartstring knowing she’s now across the country. I wrote this song the day after she left, and it’s the only song I’ve ever written that actually made me cry. It made my entire family cry. The song itself tells the story of our sister-like bond, and delves into the truth behind missing somebody and the uncertainty of seeing them again. The realization hits, and now all you really have to rely on is “maybe”. Now, she’s off on her own journey, and we part ways in two very different directions. It feels like the polaroids I have of us are not enough, but our memories will last me a lifetime, and I’m so glad that I spent those tender childhood years with her. Maybe I’ll see her again.”

Quickly taking over the world of melodic house and techno, Adriatique present X is an immersive journey through futuristic, avant-garde visuals and otherworldly sounds. Since debuting in Zürich in December 2022, Adriatique have brought their larger-than-life concert experience to iconic venues around the globe like New York’s Brooklyn Mirage, London’s Labyrinth, Ibiza’s Pacha, and Amsterdam’s Gashouder. Adriatique will close out 2023 with three X shows, which includes new editions in Dubai and Tulum.

• Trey Lewis releases “Mine Never Could,” a fresh and poignant country ballad about the two sides of a breakup. The single follows “Up Yours” and “Always You,” the latter of which is currently in the top 50 on the MusicRow Country Breakout chart.
• Trey Lewis is known for breaking country music’s unspoken rules, and this Birmingham, Alabama native isn’t afraid to call it like it is with his distinctively sharp and witty songwriting. He embarked on a headlining tour this fall with newly announced dates in 2024, and has opened for the likes of Kid Rock, Morgan Wallen, Parker McCollum, Miranda Lambert, Jake Owen, and HARDY.
