INsiders Guide: Clint Mansell, The Early November, S.E.R.P.E.N.T. Blues Festival, Kayne The Lovechild, dee holt, Payson Lewis…

From Director Rose Glass comes an electric new love story; reclusive gym manager Lou falls hard for Jackie, an ambitious bodybuilder headed through town to Vegas in pursuit of her dream. But their love ignites violence, pulling them deep into the web of Lou’s criminal family. A24’sLove Lies Bleedingstars Kristen Stewart, Katy O’Brian, Jena Malone, Anna Baryshnikov, with Dave Franco and Ed Harris.

The Love Lies Bleeding soundtrack is the latest score from beloved English composer Clint Mansell. The album unfolds alongside the blood-soaked revenge thriller, and stands on its own two feet as an incredible electronic album. In the enchanting title track, “Love Lies Bleeding” a razor-sharp beat disintegrates into an expectant pulse before re-building into a hard-hitting tempo, overlaid with ethereal vocals.

Grammy, Golden Globe, and Ivor Novello nominated, Mansell continues to innovate and expand his unique scoring style. His latest project is the music for Love Lies Bleeding, directed by Rose Glass and featuring a trippy electronic score with vocalizations by Paris Hurley, performing as Object As Subject. Self-taught, innovative, and challenging to define, Mansell is a prodigious talent, increasingly eager to collaborate, push boundaries, and experiment with his music and creative relationships.

Clint Mansell’s score added another rich layer of period atmosphere. Glass was thrilled to work with the composer who was the vocalist for the alt-rock band Pop Will Eat Itself and is known for creating the music for Darren Aronofsky’s PiRequiem for a DreamThe Fountain, and Black Swan. “Clint has done so many amazing scores,” says Glass. “I was so delighted that he agreed to do this, especially because he did Pi, which was one of those films as a teenager I remember watching and thinking ‘oh, wow, you can make films like this.’”

Glass continues, “He’s very chill and unassuming and he wrote quite quickly. But his music brings such incredible scale to the whole thing, and feeds so beautifully into the soundtrack, which he used as a kind of sonic palette. Sometimes he’d say to me, this might be too much, and I’d always say to him, no, bigger, bigger. I felt like it couldn’t be too big.”

Alternative rock group The Early November is thrilled to announce their forthcoming Self-Titled album, set for release on June 14th via Pure Noise Records. Featuring lead single “What We Earn”, The Early November is a 10 song collection that pays homage to who the band is, was, and has yet to become. Check out their new music video “What We Earn” here: https://youtu.be/r3Ym-yvXYEM and pre-order The Early November here: https://purenoiserecs.lnk.to/TheEarlyNovember.

Bronx native and genre bending artist Kayne The Lovechild is a true testament to artistry. His ability to channel his world and let it be embodied within his music speaks volume to his journey. Kayne’s newest single and music video, “Banjee Girls” directed by Katie Paul is a love letter to all the women and femme presenting people in his life as well as an ode to ballroom culture. This visual masterpiece features ballroom legend Kevin Aviance and turns a Brooklyn supermarket into a full ball embellished by voguers and exquisite style only a true New Yorker could exude. Kayne kicks off the video in luxurious blond finger waves and softly bellows, “When you meet me, you have no other choice but to respect me”, setting the tone that Kayne the Lovechild did not come to play. From his drilling bars pounding on the infectious beat perfectly to the plethora of avant garde fashions throughout the video, Kayne showcases the pure essence of the talent he possesses.

the Montreal alt-pop sensation dee holt returns with a hypnotic new single “make a move.” After courting audiences and critics with her EPs When I Close My Eyes and i’ll be there along with breakout performances at M for Montreal Fest, dee is back with a new look and new song to usher in a whole new era. “make a move” encourages listeners to get out of their comfort zone – something dee has learned to do through making her music and visual art pieces. The accompanying lyric video features dee’s signature animated illustrations. dee adds: “This song is about breaking down walls, even if it makes you uncomfortable and you feel a little out of place. In the end, you’ve got nothing to lose… so make a move.” dee is also pleased to announce an appearance at the Sommo Festival held at Prince Edward Island in Canada this September! She’ll appear alongside artists like Noah Kahan, Maren Morris, Half Moon Run, and more. As her exciting new era takes flight, stay tuned for more music and more tour announcements to come!

“Not for ourselves alone, but for the whole world are we born.”  These words that inspired a young Paul McCartney, now live on as the motivation behind Payson and his music.  Armed with overflowing positive energy and a live-for-the-moment mentality, Payson is bringing his brand of Indie-Pop spirit not for himself alone, but for the whole world to enjoy.

A Philly kid born and raised, Payson taught himself to sing and play piano by poring over his big brothers’ CDs and learning by ear.  Eventually, he moved west to continue his evolution as a musician and songwriter at USC and find his place as an artist in LA.

Payson’s soaring vocals and natural knack for dynamic performance landed him instant success and led to a Top-4 finish on NBC’s “The Sing-Off.”  Since then, he has used his diverse musical skill set in performances all over the world; lending his voice to symphony orchestras in Taiwan and Korea, starring in theatrical performances in Chicago and Las Vegas, and singing on multiple major motion picture soundtracks.  He’s even scored roles acting on TV shows including Jane the Virgin, The People vs. OJ Simpson, and How I Met Your Mother.

All the while Payson has been continuing to grow as a musician and artist.  His first releases, a series of cover songs, generated an impressive buzz and thousands of subscribers through his YouTube channel.  His covers of Taylor Swift’s “Out of the Woods”, Adele’s “Hello,” and a mashup of Zayn Malik’s “Pillowtalk” and Rihanna’s “Work” enjoyed viral success as well as a wide variety of press coverage including features from Perez Hilton.

Last year, he released his debut record, “Take Me Apart” to universal acclaim.  The record has amassed over half a million streams on Spotify, and has been featured in nearly 100 different music publications and curated music blog posts, and inspired 3 music videos with their own following; racking up well over 100k views.

While Payson Lewis has enjoyed a jack of many trades career thus far, it’s his music that gives him purpose.  Drawing on the influences of his youth and in an attempt to inspire positivity, Payson continues to refine his band-centric indie-pop sound to deliver an energetic blend of throwback nostalgia and modern edge for the benefit of the world at large.

rising UK producer, DJ, and synth extraordinaire  Demi Riquísimo delivers his time-lost new Windows 95 Anthem EP, a wistful yet driving two-tracker out now on Higher Ground. The release includes remixes from global house icon Chloé Caillet and trance-influenced Berlin producer Spray.

Equipped with his vintage synths, Demi Riquísimo plunges into ‘90s prog and house on the title track, which all started with the quirky output of his Casio CZ-3000. “Every time I move the chorus slider on it, the sound crackles, which I love,” Requísimo says. “The M1 and the strings, however, really turned the idea into a track.” The B-side, “The Force,” dips its toes into trance with its vibrant synths and quick tempo. With the support from the likes of Job Jobse, Eliza Rose, and Peach, the release is already doing damage on dancefloors around the world.

Aligning with Riquísimo’s ethos, Windows 95 Anthem will be the first physical vinyl release from Higher Ground, available for purchase today here. While the two original tracks are available for streaming today, the remixes from Chloé Caillet and Spray will arrive on April 2 (and are featured on the physical copy).

On March 21, Demi Riquísimo will arrive in Miami to perform at Higher Ground’s Miami Music Week party, which (alongside Demi) boasts a lineup including Brazilian standout Maz, Australia’s Luke Alessi, producer & songwriter Mia Moretti, and more. The event is set to take place at Medium Cool, a venue under the Gale South Beach Hotel that’s outfitted with a retro, art-deco, classic Miami vibe.

For the past 22 years, Queens-based Bayside has represented a lifestyle, a counterculture, and a deeply held conviction, diverse in thought and background but united by a shared desire for authentic expression. At their core, Bayside is a band that has constantly proved that music is not about gimmicks and ephemeral trends, but a timeless reflection of our lives and our times. It is through this timelessness and consistency that they continue to cultivate a cult-following that lives and breathes everything the band creates.

Bayside has always focused on creating songs that are relevant to people who want substance, rather than being relegated to one genre. And while many bands would coast on their past success, Bayside rejects the premise and proves time and again that the best is yet to come.

In 2022, Bayside released The Red EP, marking their first new music since 2019’s Interrobang‽. The EP’s three songs saw the band refining their unique brand of punk rock even further, with powerful, hard-hitting melodies. With 2023’s The Blue EP, Bayside further honed their sound, blending heavier influences with the band’s melodic punk roots.

Rising singer-songwriter Sydney Sherrill has released her debut album 17 Young and Stunning, out today. The 12-track LP finds Sydney reflecting on her personal teenage experiences, dipping between real and fantasy, through a variety of musical styles while staying true to her natural twang.

“I am so excited to finally be releasing my debut album,” shares Sydney. “It is so fulfilling to share these 12 tracks with everyone who listens to my music. It has always been my biggest dream to be able to make music and I am so grateful that someone out there actually wants to listen. I am so proud of this project and I hope my 17-year-old self resonates with someone else out there!”

Through each song on 17 Young and Stunning, listeners follow a journey of navigating young love and the highs and lows associated with it. The album features previous releases “Kiss and Tell” which speaks on a messy situationship between friends that isn’t built to last, the edgy “She Fell Down The Rabbit Hole,” and emotional tear-jerker “Meant For Goodbye.” Opener and title track 17 Young and Stunningsees Sydney putting her heart on the line as she makes her feelings known to someone who is more than just a friend while heartbreak anthem “Lovesick” addresses the struggles of moving on. Elsewhere on the album is “Losing Fight” rooted in a forbidden love affair, vulnerable ballad “Stick Around,” the lively “Golden Girls with Fake IDs,” and focus track “Boy in the Blue Cadillac” which is a tale of unrequited love that she wrote amidst the pandemic while teaching herself to play the piano.

Speaking to the release of new single “Boy in the Blue Cadillac,” Sydney shares, “It was one of the first full songs I have ever written. I ended up putting it away for a few years and rediscovered it while I was writing my first album. I made some changes and fell in love with the song all over again. It was a way for me to escape how monotonous life was at the time and it’s still one of the reasons I love songwriting.”

The full-length LP, whose songs have already garnered over 625K streams, was recorded at John and Martina McBride’s Blackbird Studios in Nashville, produced by Kim Wood Sandusky (Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Thomas Rhett), engineered by Steve Cordray (Morgan Wallen, Blake Shelton, Jelly Roll), and mastered by Greg Collins (Gwen Stefani, Ingrid Michaelson, Michelle Branch).

Friedberg have released their brand-new music video for their latest energetic single Hello, directed by Talia Beale. The track is the first instalment of their debut album, due for release later this year

Talia Beale is a director and artist who creates through the lens of a queer woman of colour navigating her twenties. Known for her quirky, vibrant and original style, she has directed videos for various talented artists including NiaArchives and Valencia Grace and most recently worked with Friedberg to bring their vision to life.

In the music video we are placed in a warped ‘Friedberg room’ where Anna has melted into one of her walls, ultimately becoming a part of the furniture. “Hello” is written from the point of view of spending the night living in someone’s head, so the visual is a reflection of the motion of all our passing thoughts: they are overwhelming, nonsensical, detaching, comforting, erratic, tempting yet disorientating; all the while making so much sense.

Anna, lead singer of Friedberg, says “I already fell in love with Talia’s initial idea of me reciting the lyrics of the song whilst my head is stuck in a wall. Over a good cup of cappuccino we instantly bonded over the idea of a leaf blower blowing the band’s hair while we are performing the song. I loved everything else we came up with that day – like taping the band to the wall. When I wrote the song I imagined spending the night in a stranger’s mind and thinking all of these things that I never thought… Saying all of these things that I never said. And get a holiday from my own mind. So the concept of the video just worked perfectly for the song.”

After announcing their musical union under the new moniker Kiss Bang, Los Angeles’ Kaya Stewart and Max Mercier today release their debut EP Horrors Of Your Hometown. Available now via Bay Street Records, the label founded by Dave Stewart of Eurythmics, the four-track-offering is a hopeful, blithe journey through romance, sex, uncertainty, tragedy and substance use. Stewart’s unignorable voice, paired with Mercier’s deft production makes for a proper introduction to the left-of-pop duo — Stream.

Following a chance meeting, Stewart and Mercier found the perfect partnership for creating music that isn’t confined to a particular era. Whether in 1985 or 2050, Kiss Bang’s debut EP fully circumnavigates the sterile lines that have been drawn in pop music for the last 20 years. Taking the winding route to avoid falling into any one formula to create music, Kiss Bang makes truly timeless earworms.

Stewart shares that, “Each song written for this EP comes from personal experiences that we both share, yet are so relatable. We both feel everything so deeply and our outlet has always been music. We didn’t write this EP with a story in mind, but listening back it really feels like a window into the life of two young people just figuring out who they are and taking everything as it comes.”

Mercier adds, “I think these four songs greatly showcase our range as artists, performers, and people. There are moments of refined recklessness, preemptive heartbreak, and deep hopelessness, but in true Max and Kaya fashion it’s whimsically packaged up with a ‘f*** it’ attitude. There are so many long nights, Sonic Diet Cokes (with the good ice), so much laughter, and so much love behind the creation of these four tracks and we couldn’t be more excited to get it out into the world.”

Philadelphia’s Julia Pratt releases “Carolina,” the first single from her forthcoming EP, out now via RECORDS. Baring her most core anguish through music, from the destruction of her family, to her lived experiences as a woman of color, Pratt’s new music is her most therapeutic and necessary writing to date. While applying R&B techniques to indie-folk, her sky-grazing music exists to let listeners know they were never alone — Stream “Carolina.”

On “Carolina,” Pratt folds all of her history into a haunting song about returning to someone, something, someplace you used to love, but just can’t seem to recognize anymore. The song’s layered exploration of identity, of what it means to be a daughter grown and changed, of searching for home, matches the echoey wordless harmonies and loping guitar. With her youth full of questioning and conflict, Pratt now turns inward for her present conviction of identity.

“‘Carolina’ is about returning to a person/place that was once called home and realizing that it is no longer that,” shares Pratt. “The song that spawned this project, ‘Carolina’ recounts a moment when I returned back to North Carolina, the place where my family ended, and was hit with the true realization that it was all over. I struggled to accept that I am not who I was then, and it pained me to think that this place, that has held so much significance in my life, may not even recognize me anymore. ‘Carolina’ is about belonging, loss, grief, and the concept of home, told through the eyes of a woman who feels she has no place in this world.”

Scarlet Byford a.k.a. Scar, today released “Paralyzing,” the first single off her upcoming, debut project. Only 18 years old, the singer songwriter from London signed with the Platoon label in late 2023. A powerful and cathartic exploration of youth, “Paralyzing” is an emotive first experience for listeners that will stay with them long after the track is over.

Speaking to an internal battle within herself, the song describes the war waging inside and the difficulty faced in wanting to be things she’s not sure she can be. With explosive lyrics and a haunting piano accompaniment, “Paralyzing” is a commanding acoustic introduction to this incredible talent.

Says Scar about the track, “the song is about how overwhelming life and the pressures that come with it can be, and how sometimes your own fears and anxiety can stop you from doing the things you love. You find yourself in this kind of paralyzing state, which can feel really lonely and hard to get out of. But ultimately it’s about making that tough choice to keep fighting that battle going on in your mind.”

While a new artist, Scar is certainly no stranger to creating a fanbase. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she downloaded TikTok and began posting videos. Since then, due to her impressive vocal range and authenticity, she’s generated over 2.8M followers on TikTok alone. Not only gaining interest from Platoon, her raw, impactful content has attracted attention from notable artists including Justin Beiber, who have shared her music on their own channels in support.

Scar’s self-titled debut project, “SCAR” will premiere this fall via Platoon. Conscientiously created, the tracks were hand selected by Scarlet based solely on her love for them and their ability to connect with fans. With hopes of reaching those who might be struggling, Scar’s mission with her introductory work is to inspire and encourage listeners to find comfort and know that they’re not alone.
