The Review: “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” – Come Ride With Miami’s Finest

Let’s begin with a fun fact. Did you know the original Bad Boys movie was going to star Dana Carvey and John Lovitz, and was going to be a completely different movie? It wasn’t until Martin Lawrence was sent the script did things change, and with a recommendation from Lawrence’s sister, Martin Lawrence called friend Will Smith and asked him to be in this film with him. Once they made some major changes to the script the beloved 90’s action franchise Bad Boys was born.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die marks the triumphant return of our favorite dynamic duo, Detectives Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence). Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, this action-packed film is the fourth installment in the the popular Bad Boys franchise. Buckle up, because Miami’s finest are back, and this time, they’re on the run.

When their former captain, Conrad Howard, is posthumously accused of corruption involving the Romanian Mafia, Lowrey and Burnett find themselves framed and forced to operate outside the law. Their mission: clear Howard’s name and unravel a web of deceit that threatens to tear Miami apart. The stakes are higher than ever as they navigate explosive action sequences, unexpected alliances, and a city teetering on the edge.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence slip seamlessly back into their iconic roles. Their banter, camaraderie, and witty one-liners inject humor into the adrenaline-fueled narrative. From car chases through neon-lit streets to shootouts in abandoned warehouses, the film delivers heart-pounding action. The directors masterfully choreograph intense sequences that keep viewers on the edge of their seats. A stand out scene for me has to be with supporting cast member Dennis Greene, who plays Reggie, I won’t ruin it but it’s pretty cool. Vanessa Hudgens and Alexander Ludwig join the cast, infusing fresh energy. Hudgens, in particular, shines as a tech-savvy hacker with secrets of her own.

The film captures the vibrant essence of Miami—the palm trees, the ocean breeze, and the pulsating nightlife. It’s a love letter to the city that has become synonymous with the Bad Boys franchise.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die revs up the franchise, reminding us why we fell in love with these bad boys in the first place. Buckle up, grab your popcorn, and enjoy the ride!
