Vevo releases its latest installment of Footnotes, taking viewers behind the scenes of the official music video for Latin pop king Ricky Martin’s #1 hit, “Livin’ La Vida Loca.”
The episode details the incredible influence of “Livin’ La Vida Loca,” that paved the way for future Latino pop stars. The song exploded on on the pop charts, claiming the #1 spot in 15 countries worldwide. Ricky Martin, describes it as “a fantastic fusion of cultures, from rock to ska to Latin.” Additionally, the episode reveals that the song, along with “Despacito,” are the only tracks that were nominated for Record of the Year at both GRAMMY Awards and Latin GRAMMY Awards.
The music video for “Livin’ La Vida Loca” was one of the most expensive productions at the time of its release, with a $500,000 budget. Upon its release, Ricky Martin became the first Latin artist to receive a Video of the Year nomination at MTV’s Video Music Awards. He describes how powerful the song was and how it marked a turning point in his life, saying, “there’s a before and after ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca.’”
