INsiders Guide: Two Trains Left, The Awning, FEVER 333, TAMAR BERK, Pa Sheehy, Alice Phoebe Lou….

the Parisian pop punk band Two Trains Left have announced their latest LP, Probably For Nothing slated for release on September 20.

The 12 track album produced by easycore icons Chunk! No Captain Chunk! frontman Bertrand Poncet takes listeners on a thrilling ride through Two Trains Left’s evolving soundscapes, showcasing their unique blend of high-energy tracks and reflective ballads.

Probably For Nothing  seamlessly combines infectious melodies with heartfelt lyrics, reflecting the band’s coming of age while encapsulating their journey through the unknown. Speaking to how one’s personal evolution can lead to resilience and liberation., even if the outcome is uncertain, the band shares: “”Probably For Nothing” captures our evolution and experimentation in a way that feels cohesive and engaging. We wanted to create an album that resonates deeply with listeners, offering them a mix of powerful anthems and reflective ballads that they can connect with on a personal level. Our hope was to leave a lasting impact and provide a memorable and engaging listening experience from start to finish.”

The group recently released their new single and music video for “Sail Away” featuring long time supporters Chunk! No Captain Chunk! Blending both Parisian artist’s distinct styles together brings a powerful dynamic to the song, creating a unique sound that serves as a personal anthem of growth, self-discovery and determination. Combining catchy guitar riffs, groovy bass lines and powerful vocals, “Sail Away” invites listeners on a journey through raw emotion and undeniable intensity.

Formerly known as Scoth, multi-instrumentalists and singer-songwriters Darragh Purcell and Evan Flaherty have emerged with a new musical venture: The Awning.

The cousins are set to release their debut single, “July” on July 26th. This poignant song, written in the aftermath of losing a dear friend, delves into the raw emotions of grief.

About the song the band say “This song was written in the aftermath of losing a dear friend who passed away far too soon. It explores the vulnerable emotions of grief and serves as a poignant reminder of life’s fragility.

The lyrics narrate the events from his drowning to the funeral, with each day passing swiftly and insignificantly. Such moments make you question life and confront the reality that you cannot control the broader course of events. The carefree and joyful essence of summer is upended, forever altering what the month of July signifies for all of us. This song is for him.”

Their unique brand of ethereal folk combines traditional elements with lush production and other-worldly harmonies (akin to Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes) And their vast array of influences range from the stripped down folk of Nick Drake and early Sufjan Stevens, to the psychedelic sounds of The Beach Boys and Animal Collective. The duo are vastly experienced, coming off an impressive 2023 having played a plethora of high profile shows such as Whelans Ones to Watch, Indiependence Festival Cork as well as Masters of Tradition in Bantry alongside long time influence Sam Amidon under the Scoth moniker.

The County Clare cousins have big ambitions and are ending the year on a high note getting ready to play their first headline show as “The Awning” in The Workmans Cellar on the 10th of September and have been chosen as a showcasing act for Irish Music Week 2024.

Following the release of the powerful new song and music video for “NEW WEST ORDER” released in June, Grammy nominated rock band, FEVER 333, are following it up with “HIGHER POWER” – a rally cry to the contributions of Black, Brown, and Asian people to the nation and call for reparations – its chorus reinforces the message of empowerment and unity, encouraging listeners to embrace and share this inherent strength. Its music video invites you to a FEVER Function, hosted in a church in South Central, Los Angeles, led by Jason Aalon Butler.

“There are no diamonds to be produced without pressure,” says Butler on the new song. “No lessons to learn without trials. “HIGHER POWER” revolves around these ideas and reveres the beauty in the adversity induced magic performed by marginalized communities. To exist in a world that challenges your very existence every day to some degree is one of the most magical acts I have ever witnessed. Here is my 2:43 soundtrack offering to that act.”

celebrated indie power-pop  musician Tamar Berk is excited to unveil Good Times for a Change, her latest and fourth full-length solo album.

Just four short years have passed since San Diego-based singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Tamar Berk released her poignant 90s influenced debut solo album, The Restless Dreams of Youth, which glanced back on the journey from her hometown of Cleveland to Chicago (where she was part of the 90s alternative “guyville” scene) and San Diego by way of Portland.

Tamar’s fourth full-length effort, Good Times for a Change, may well be her best yet, taking its name from the lyrics from her favorite The Smiths song “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want.” That title serves as an apt summary of the new album’s themes,  suggesting it’s both a good time for a change and a good time — for a change — the album looks at past scars and admits future fears by placing itself, as she puts it, “somewhere in between.”

“After my third solo album “Tiny Injuries” was released last year, I could feel myself slowly emerging from the dark cave of grief. Some days I would feel more positive and excited about things,  but then other days I would take ten steps back and be right back there,” she explains. “ I desperately want to change and feel okay, but there is also a side of me that  wants to hold onto the sadness. Sometimes holding onto it is the only thing that keeps that person around, and I struggle with the fear of forgetting them. All the songs on Good Times for a Change feel like meditations on being somewhere in between the willingness to let go, and the desire to hold on…and exist in that place somewhere in between my past and future” says Tamar Berk, when going into further detail about her new record’s inspirations.

To celebrate the album’s release, Tamar Berk is also proud to share the music video for “Good Impression”, the album’s lead single.

Pa Sheehy, the former frontman of Walking On Cars, is set to release his new single “My Old Friend John” on July 19th. This heartfelt track delves deep into Sheehy’s world, telling a heartbreaking story that feels “like a mini movie.”

Sheehy explains, “I had to give the song five verses to make sure the full story was told”. Written and recorded in a whirlwind 36 hours, the process involved no sleep, lots of coffee, numerous balled-up papers, and a few ashtrays. The song touches on themes of love, friendship, sobriety, despair, and helplessness in its simplest form.

In addition to the single release, Pa Sheehy is thrilled to announce his debut album, ‘Maybe It Was All For This,’ set for release on October 4th. Fans can pre-order the album starting July 19th from his website, www.pasheehy.com.

On top of this he is also announcing a European tour in 2024. Tickets go on sale July 26th via pasheehy.com.

About the album, Sheehy shares, “The record wasn’t meant to be a concept album, but every song has an attachment to the town of Dingle. Either growing up there, wanting to leave it, what it’s like now, and the people in it. I mindfully wanted to make something completely expressive and I think this gave us the freedom to do anything. From super projected vocal deliveries to whispers, plucked acoustic guitar playing to distortion pedals. I’ve fallen in love with so many artists over the last few years that I don’t know what genre this fits into, but maybe not knowing is what led us to the magic we found along the way”.

Fresh off a sold-out European tour and having supported Bruce Springsteen at Hyde Park last summer, the Dingle-based wordsmith is ready to embark on a new journey. With his collaboration with Dutch label V2 Records (Kaiser Chiefs, Hazlett, Alice Merton), Sheehy describes this release as the “start of an exciting new era” that elevates his songwriting and storytelling abilities to new heights.

South Africa-born, Portugal-based singer-songwriter Alice Phoebe Lou today releases her first single since 2023’s critically acclaimed Shelter, “The World Above.” This release is in tandem with the news of her tour this Fall supporting Clairo.

Recorded in between Tropico Beauty in Los Angeles and Freedom Studio Infinity in Tokyo while on tour, “The World Above” is not only geographically global, but universal in meaning. A self-reflective metaphor about looking up from underwater, Alice’s hopeful lyrics gain confidence alongside celestial keys and cascading guitars that lift each other along the way. Joined by David Parry on guitar, Dekel Adin on bass and Ziv Yamin on drums and keys, Alice maintains her commitment to artistic independence on this Parry produced track — Stream.

“This song feels like a hand reaching down and pulling me up from the abyss, helping me rise to the surface after a difficult time,” shares Alice. “I wrote it in a moment of intense self-reflection as I began embracing who I am, loosening from the grips of addictions and feeling as though I am enough. It’s a celebration of self and acknowledgement of the paradox of our depths and darkness as well as our infinite lightness.”

the iconic ska-punk bands Goldfinger and Less Than Jake released their own rendition of the hit song “I Had Some Help.” The original smash hit by Post Malone featuring Morgan Wallen has been topping the charts since it came out in May, and this ska version is anticipated to be an instant hit with fans of the genre.

“I’ve been with my wife for 28 years, and I can sooo relate to this song! My kids haven’t stopped listening to it since it came out,” shared John Feldmann, lead singer of Goldfinger. I felt like I needed to do a cover with my friends in Less Than Jake! We’ve been close for decades and it’s an honor to collaborate with them finally! We have toured with them more times than I can count and consider them family.”’

This is the first-ever public release between the two bands, who have been touring together for decades. This single release arrived just after they performed it in front of an excited live audience at Denver Ska Fest this June.

It’s no secret that Less Than Jake and Goldfinger have known each other and been friends forever. It’s also no secret that John Feldmann is a world-renowned record producer. So, when your friend hits you up and asks if you’ll play the part of Morgan Wallen for a cover version of “I Had Some Help,” it’s an immediate yes,” shares Chris DeMakes, lead singer of Less Than Jake. I’m honored that John thought of me, out of everyone he knows, to sing with him on this track. It was a lot of fun, and I hope the fans like it.”

platinum-certified singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Sueco has released his highly anticipated sophomore album, Attempted Lover.

This is Sueco’s first independently released album showcasing his dynamic, experimental sound, which combines alternative rock, emo-rap, and punk elements. He channels the spirit of nineties punk through a 21st-century lens, tapping into the unpredictability of hyperpop, the catharsis of hardcore, and a whole lot of hip-hop finesse.

The album highlights his raw vocals, meant to be played at full volume through listeners’ speakers. He had a few singles off of the album released leading up to this including the stripped-back song “Mulholland Drive,” fast-paced anthem “Drama Queen.” His most recent single is the heavy alt-rock banger “Outta My Head,” which hit #1 on trending audio for Instagram reels, further showcasing fans’ anticipation for the album release.

I put this album together after coming home from a year and a half of non-stop touring,” shares Sueco. “It was really nostalgic for me skating around the streets I grew up on, and I decided to set up a studio in the garage of my dad’s house where I started making music about 15 years ago. I looked through about 200 demos, piecing together some of the best songs I could find, and this album is what came out of it.

Featuring a collection of 10-new tracks produced by Boney, Slow Burn marks a new high point in the chart-topping, contemporary jazz icon’s remarkable three-decade career, one that includes a long list of accolades; four GRAMMY nominations, three NAACP Image Award nominations, a Soul Train Award for Best Jazz Album and four RIAA Gold Record certifications, to name just a few.

“When I mentioned the phrase ‘slow burn’ to people as a possible title, they said, ‘That also refers to your whole career in a way,’” James recently reflected. “This is my nineteenth record and I feel like I’m just hitting my stride.”

Slow Burn includes an impressive list of guest collaborators, starting with the legendary bass player Marcus Miller on “Arcadia.”  Miller appears again on “Butterfly,” a remake of the Herbie Hancock and Bennie Maupin classic, along with internationally renowned jazz/gospel keyboardist Cory Henry.  Multi-instrumentalist Jairus Mozee (Anderson.Paak, Anthony Hamilton, Nikki Minaj, etc.) co-wrote and co-produced four tracks on the album with Boney, including title track “Slow Burn.”  As for the sultry first single “All I Want Is You” featuring rising R&B vocalist October London, James proclaims the track to be “one of the most exciting vocal collaborations I’ve ever recorded.”

James is scheduled to play select dates across the U.S. through the summer and fall.  Promising to bring his iconic 30-year career to the live stage, including selections from Slow Burn, the upcoming shows will hit several markets over the next few months including Nashville, Milwaukee, Charlotte, and Boston among others.  For further information please visit https://boneyjames.com/

During his 30-year career, Boney James has released a staggering nineteen studio albums, with 1995’s Seduction, 1997’s Sweet Thing, and 1999’s Body Language all becoming RIAA certified gold.  In 2015, Boney’s futuresoul spent eleven weeks atop the Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart and was the best-selling Contemporary Jazz Record of 2015, while his 2020 album Solid went on to become his highest charting release ever on the pop charts, peaking in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200.

With nearly a dozen of his albums landing at #1 on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Album chart, James’ past collaborators include a long list of critically acclaimed R&B and soul stars: Raheem DeVaughn, Faith Evans, George Benson, George Duke, Dwele, Al Jarreau, Philip Bailey, Anthony Hamilton, Jaheim, Eric Benét, Dave Hollister, Stokley Williams, Kenny Lattimore, Angie Stone, and Lalah Hathaway.

AWOLNATION has released a new single and music video for “I Am Happy” featuring Del The Funky Homosapien, which follows the release of the singles “Panoramic View” and “Jump Sit Stand March” featuring Emily Armstrong. The tracks can be found on the recently announced upcoming new album, ‘The Phantom Five’, to be released August 30, 2024. The album is available for pre-order and pre-save here: https://awolnation.ffm.to/tp5.

“I hit Del up through my relationship with Dan the Automator,” explains Aaron Bruno aka AWOLANTION on the collaboration. “Del goes, “Yeah, send it.” and I’m like, “What? Wow, okay. Here we go.” I sent Del the song’s structure similar to how it is now, but I left one verse longer so he could go as long as he wanted. He sent it back perfect. It was so cool to send him a song with this kind of chorus, about trying to find happiness in a bizarrely upside-down time.”

“I guess that’s the whole point of this record—addressing it, acknowledging it, seeing if it’s real, but also trying to make the best of it,” continues Bruno. “Del interpreted the lyrics about being happy out of your mind in the face of fear and nailed it. And what an honor. It’s basically like my Gorillaz song. I didn’t even put it together at the time but Del raps the phrase “Panoramic View” on the Gorillaz song “Clint Eastwood.” He’s a legend.”

Canada’s iconic trio of family entertainers, Sharon, Lois & Bram, bring never-before-released tracks from their hit ‘80s TV series, The Elephant Show, to today’s families with their new album, Elephant Show Stoppers! Fans of all ages can revisit their childhoods and share treasured memories with their kids and grandkids when listening to this nostalgic gem, which isset for release on vinyl on September 27 and in an extended digital version on October 18, 2024.

Celebrating 40 years since The Elephant Show first aired, this collection of songs captures the wonder and whimsical nature of all five seasons of the award-winning series that so many remember and love. The vinyl edition of Elephant Show Stoppers! is the trio’s first vinyl release since the final season of The Elephant Show in 1988 and includes two tracks that are not heard on the digital version. The extended digital version of Elephant Show Stoppers! includes five bonus tracks, along with expanded versions of two songs from the vinyl edition.

Earlier this year, Kris Stengele and Jacy Dawn Valeras, two longtime fans who have become key members of the Sharon, Lois & Bram team and producers of this album, were searching for material for a different recording project when they discovered a treasure trove of unmarked cassette tapes stored in the trio’s archive. When they started listening, Kris and Jacy were amazed to hear that the cassettes included never-before-released recordings of exceptional quality from The Elephant Show. The rest of the team was thrilled by this discovery, and with the help of master engineer Glenn Morley and Sharon & Bram’s manager, Randi Hampson, this music was beautifully brought back to life. The result? A nostalgic collection of songs arriving just in time to mark the 40th anniversary of The Elephant Show! Along with the cassettes, Kris and Jacy unearthed a collection of unpublished, behind-the-scenes images from the show, many of which are included in the Elephant Show Stoppers! vinyl edition artwork, fold-out booklet, and poster.

The band are deeply committed to their musical future together and have recorded a wealth of original songs, alongside recording unique country versions of Boyz 2 Men’s “End of the Road” and Michael Bolton’s “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You.”

Following contributions from New York hip-hop duo Armand Hammer, L.A.-based avant-garde composer William Basinski and legendary London producer Matthew Herbert, Hatis Noit’s Aura Reworks series continues with a transcendental reinterpretation of her debut album Aura‘s title track, featuring Harlem-based multi-instrumentalist, laughter meditation practitioner and ambient godfather Laraaji.

“The first time I saw Laraaji was in a Thai field, where the strong sun made the dry wind swirl with dust. The sweet sensation of drinking from a coconut, whilst being gently enveloped by Laraaji’s laughter workshop, made me feel completely content. Shortly after I learned from friends that his live concert brought them to tears… A few months passed until I could finally witness his live performance myself as we were sharing the same stage in this beautiful church in Knoxville, Tennessee during Big Ears Festival. As I listened to his blissful sounds, I recalled the lingering scent of the dusty field, and nature’s beauty that I sought to celebrate with Aura. I’m more than grateful for his contributions to this reworking of the piece.” — Hatis Noit

By leveraging its iconic past and leaning into the future, Epiphone has set the stage for the next era of sound for present and future generations. Epiphone is proud to unveil its global partnership with the chart-topping UK singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist YUNGBLUD, aka Dominic Harrison. A longtime SG™ Junior fan, YUNGBLUD and Epiphone have collaborated on his first-ever signature guitar, the Epiphone YUNGBLUD SG Junior. As a limited-edition run, each YUNGBLUD SG Junior is an instant collector’s item and a must-have for all YUNGBLUD fans. The Epiphone YUNGBLUD SG Junior is available now at authorized Epiphone dealers and worldwide on www.epiphone.com.

A force of nature, YUNGBLUD has undeniably become the voice of Gen Z, using his music to unite and empower the youth of today. The 26-year-old artist is known for voicing what he feels are major concerns for his generation gentrification, assault, troubled upbringings, and political corruption. He has built and nurtured a vast collective of dedicated fans around the globe–a close-knit family that’s grown into the millions.

“Guitars and rock music have always been a fundamental part of my life,” says YUNGBLUD. “Literally my education. I grew up on the counter of a guitar shop, and I’ve been dusting them since I was three years old. The reason why I play a White ‘64 SG Junior is because, growing up, musicians who were important in my life were Angus Young and Billie Joe Armstrong. I was lucky because I found a guitar that represented both parts of my inspiration and yet has been famously played by no one but me. This SG Junior is entirely my own, and it already looks fucking iconic.

Rock music only survives if we keep evolving the genre, playing it our own way, and passing along the fuckin’ baton. To play for my fan base, hand them my guitars and talk to them about wanting to start bands is the sickest shit ever!! If I play even the tiniest part in their journey, I’m fuckin’ honored. Rock isn’t dead; it’s just different, pass it on.”

The visionaire is also the founder of Arcane, a trailblazing imprint championing both emerging and established acts who join him on the journey of bridging the gap between the underground and mainstream worlds.

acclaimed New York City-based electronic musician, producer and activist Moby shares a playful, hand-drawn music video for his latest Latin house infused single “feelings come undone” featuring Raquel Rodriguez. The video arrives following the release of his long-awaited 22nd studio album always centered at night out everywhere now. Plus, Moby will perform live across Europe/UK to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Play this September with tickets on sale now here.

The new video for “feelings come undone” sees Moby illustrate the track with a marker on a white board, starring an anonymous small space alien. The drawing is played back in reverse to mirror the track’s title, as if to “undo” the story. Moby says of the video, Years ago when I was a little college dropout sleeping on my mom’s pull out couch, I started drawing my space alien alter ego. I don’t know his name, but he keeps showing up and that makes me happy.”

Even by Moby’s standards, always centered at night is a bit special. The album features 13 collaborations in all, from names you might recognize to others you undoubtedly will come to recognize. Lead single “dark days” was recorded with acclaimed soul-jazz singer-songwriter Lady Blackbird, a defiant, rhythmic work propelled by her alluring, deep vocals and earnest soul. Other collaborators include serpentwithfeet on the achingly beautiful “on air,” and Benjamin Zephaniah on the propulsive, break-beat driven “where is your pride?,” a spoken word with a powerful message delivered in the late dub poet’s characteristically warm Handsworth burr. “As a vegan activist, and as a wise and compassionate man, Benjamin inspired me for many years,” says Moby. “I hope that ‘where is your pride?’ honors his legacy and also draws people’s attention to his life, work, and principles.”

Other wonderful voices on always centered at night, include Sudanese, Netherlands-based chanteuse Gaidaa on “transit,” London-based, Burundian royal refugee J.P. Bimeni, and Kingston-raised, London-based Aynzli Jones

Global rock phenomenon and “Samurai Guitarist”, MIYAVI, has released a new single called “Eat Eat Eat” today via Rise Records and is available to stream on all platforms at this link: https://rr.lnk.to/EatEatEat.

“Eat Eat Eat” embodies animal instincts and androgyny, presenting a controlled chaos that is open to interpretation,” explains MIYAVI on the new song. “During the writing process, I was inspired by the archetype of antiheroes with multiple personalities, and I wanted to write a song that explores the duality of human nature, balancing rationality and impulsiveness. This theme runs throughout my new album, illustrating the conflict and coexistence of these contrasting human traits. Rather than confronting our varied psyches, we embrace them. And in the music video, we wanted to emphasize how our desires can change drastically and subconsciously.”

“Eat Eat Eat” follows the double singles “Broken Fantasy/Tragedy Of Us” and “Running In My Head/Life Is Not That Long” released this year.

Renowned actor and singer Michele Morrone announced his signing to the independent, Tribeca-based label 477 Records.

An accomplished recording artist, Morrone has found great success releasing and performing his original music internationally since 2020. His debut album, Dark Room, included several songs featured in the official soundtrack for 365 Days, a Netflix original series he starred in alongside actress Anna-Maria Sieklucka. He followed this record with the robust and atmospheric sophomore album Double, released in 2023.

With over 1.1 million monthly listeners on Spotify and over 23 million followers on social media, Michele’s presence as a global talent is only getting stronger each day.

“I felt joining the team at 477 Records was the right move for my career as a musician,” says Michele Morrone. “Their ethos for creativity and nurturing independent artists really resonated with me, and they have shown nothing but love for the new songs I’ve been working on.”

This signing comes at a special time for the label as it grows its roster of international artists across the indie and alternative space.

hard techno’s fiercest force Sara Landry unleashes the next high-powered hit off her highly-anticipated debut album, “Pressure,” in collaboration with Latvia-born, London- based artist and celestial songwriter, LEGZDINA. Delivering a full-throttle demonstration of Landry’s artistic range and boundary breaking vision, the genre-defying track fuses together hard techno and hip-hop elements at breakneck speed, conjuring an infectious new sound uniquely in a category of its own. Harnessing the essence of each artist’s signature style, “Pressure” offers an unexpected sonic synergy that is equal parts innovative and explosive. Unrelenting from the onset, the deliberate blend of Landry’s driving beats and thunderous basslines with the LEGZDINA’s commanding vocal delivery emulates an indomitable sense of confidence, intrinsic to divinely feminine power. Showcasing her own songwriting prowess for the first time, Landry and LEGZDINA’s collaborative lyrics infuse a viscerally addictive layer into the already enthralling listening experience. Brazen, bold and unapologetic, “Pressure” arrives as an anthemic testament to rebellious experimentation that captures the “bad bitch” energy of the dynamites behind the track.

Growing up in a large Mormon family, Annie J has always relied on music to find a sense of belonging. With a childhood spent shuffling around small towns throughout the US, she discovered that art created a deeper understanding of her purpose than what was on the surface. She found herself inspired by the R&B and jazz stylings of Whitney Houston and Nina Simone, as well as the country-soaked powerhouse voices of Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, The Chicks and The Judds that her mother had on repeat.

The upcoming record,  Been Loving You, is a profound exploration of a personal journey through life’s stages. The journey unfolds like a memoir, each song capturing moments of introspection and revelation. The opener and first single, “Your Power,” dropping 7/26, is poignantly introspective: an urge to embrace the inner voice that reminds us of what we can do in this life.

alt-R&B savant Sylo releases his much anticipated new album Dreamt that I Was via The Orchard. Loungey, sultry, and all around experimental, Sylo’s newest offering, executive produced by David Tanton (Afternoon Bike Ride), unfolds around the listener. Thoughtfully plucking all the beauty from the mundane, Sylo wields a voice with the viscosity of honey, leaving his fingerprint of intimate care on every second of his music — Stream

The overarching theme behind this body of work is linking his childhood to who he is in the present moment. Sylo has existed through countless life stages, but the version of himself in this exact time wants to reach people with this exact grouping of songs. This motif perfectly ties into the project’s artwork, a grab of young Sylo in a film called Bulletproof Monk

Beginning with a “half-letter to a past self,” Sylo opens the album with “Slow Down For A Minute.” He sets an optimistic tone early on expressing the sentiment of this too shall pass. On one of today’s standout tracks, “Alaska,” Sylo said, “The struggle of coping with one’s anxiety can cause you to want to make some last-ditch effort to crawl out of your skin and start over — be the person you always imagined you could be. But does that truly exist?”

Sylo then moves listeners through some of the project’s singles before getting to the hazy, distorted, all-encompassing “Don’t Fight It.” He explains, “This is a story of a drug-induced experience and having a glimpse into the void, whether or not I wanted it. All I had was her body and words to hold onto. The rest was up to God.”

All points culminating at closing track “Abyss,” a building jazz horn section acts as the guide over the edge of oblivion. “I went on a meditation retreat once. My objective was to let go of all things that grounded me,” Sylo shared “This led to the realization that the only way to truly be free is to make the vast uncertainty of life your only home.” A crescendo into an abrupt ending leaves the listener wondering what is on the other side?

Anthony Davis, AKA Ant, one half of the legendary, pioneering hip-hop group Atmosphere, has announced the first volume of a four part series of instrumentals. Collection of Sounds: Volume 1, his debut solo album, will be released on Friday 6th September via Rhymesayers Entertainment, and today Ant has shared “Leather Soul” + “That Old Bongo Joint.”

Both singles serve as a preview and testament to the breadth of influences synthesized on this collection, and Davis’ undeniable skills as a producer.

In his own words, he shares “I guess I have the audacity to believe I could put out a four volume instrumental music project, composed of music I’ve made over the last 30 years, and call it great art.”

The son of a military family, Ant grew up bouncing between locales: Texas, California, New York, Colorado, even as far away as Germany. While moving every couple of years presented plenty of challenges, it also exposed Ant to a wide array of different people and cultures. It also helped nurture his burgeoning love of music. Ant’s father, only 20 years his senior, was an avid record collector. “He was into funk and jazz and soul music and stuff,” Ant says. “When I’m ten years old, he’s only 30, and rap is out: he was listening to it, but he didn’t know the difference between Grandmaster Flash and Rick James. To him it was the same thing—this is all funk, this is all disco, this is just all music.”

“There was always this weird dream in my head that I could get somewhere,” says Davis. As one half of Atmosphere, the longtime Minneapolis resident has carved out the type of career that aspiring musicians across the world imagine as they cut their teeth in home studios and on small stages. Yet while decades of sold-out tours and critical acclaim might have been, at one time, an abstract notion to the now 53-year-old, he always had a sense that he could spin his ingenuity behind turntables into a living. While the last 30 years serve as proof positive that he was right, his new four-volume collection of instrumental work, Collection of Sounds, illuminates the variety of styles and skills that made that inkling a reality.

Hip-hop legend Rakim is breaking new ground with his new project, G.O.D.’S NETWORK (REB7RTH), by flexing his skills both on the mic and behind the boards. Widely lauded as the best lyricist of all time, The God MC himself is blessing the culture with the next step in his historic career; and his first project in 15-years. G.O.D.’S NETWORK (REB7RTH) is now available.

“I feel like the battery in my back has been reenergized,” Rakim said about his new project, which arrives nearly four decades after the release of his classic debut with Eric B., Paid In Full. Since then, he’s continued to shape the landscape and culture of hip-hop as we know it, inspiring rising artists with his hype live shows and incredible studio albums. And while he’s produced some of his previous work—notably “Don’t Sweat the Technique,” “Juice (Know The Ledge),” and “Paid In Full”—this feels like new territory for the 18th Letter, whose production and scratching talents are nothing short of remarkable.

G.O.D.’S NETWORK (REB7RTH)is proof that Rakim is truly one of the most special artists we’ve known, not just in hip-hop, but all of music. You can tell he feels that level of praise when speaking about the genesis of the album. “Having the ability to showcase my talents behind the boards, coupled with the elite lyricism the world already knows and gives me infinite praise for, alongside some of the best talents to ever do it is truly a blessing and for that I am humbled,” Rakim declared.

Rakim is more than an official triple-threat as an artist, because he’s also showing off skills as a curator. On G.O.D.’S NETWORK (REB7RTH), Rakim enlists a who’s-who of top hip-hop talent, including the dearly departed Nipsey Hussle, Fred the Godson, DMX, and Prodigy (of Mobb Deep). Rakim also linked with many of his contemporaries, such as Snoop Dogg, Method Man, KXNG Crooked, and Kool G. Rap, among others.

The album’s first single, “Be Ill,” is the perfect introduction, as it pairs Rakim’s raw rhymes and head-nodding production with slick guest features from Kurupt and Masta Killa. Elsewhere, Rakim slows it down for the soulful “Love Is The Message,” which features Nipsey Hussle, Planet Asia, Louis King, Snoop Dogg, Sally Green, Kobe Honeycutt, and the LA Grand Choir. And then there’s the chest-thumping “International,” a straight-up slapper with hard-hitting rhymes from Kool G. Rap, Tristate, and Joell Ortiz.

For fans of hip-hop, and especially of Rakim’s storied discography, there is so much to love on G.O.D.’S NETWORK (REB7RTH). You can hear his hunger as an emcee and producer on every track, as well as his desire to collaborate with so many respected artists. Despite having decades in the game and many classics to his name, it feels like Rakim is just getting started.

Rising R&B Songstress, Dajah Dorn, shares a new single “Love U 4 Free” via Vinyl Crown Recordings, listen HERE. Hailing from the north side of Jacksonville, Florida, Dajah enters the world of R&B, weaving together her diverse musical influences and personal experiences to create a sound that is uniquely hers.

“Love U 4 Free” produced by Khari “Needlz” Cain, brings on the perfect summer feel. This track follows Dajah’s debut single, I Don’t Want You,” and “Twice On Sunday” released via Vinyl Crown Recordings, offering a glimpse into her narrative. “Love U 4 Free” sets the stage for Dajah’s upcoming debut EP “Having My Way” set to release this fall.

Dajah Dorn in her own words: “I’m a lover girl so my music is always going to mention love in some way. After releasing my first 2 singles, my team and I knew the next thing we needed was something light and fun that you could dance to and “Love U 4 Free” was created. It’s all about loving through any circumstance and trusting the freedom that comes with that.”

Dajah’s musical journey is deeply rooted in her familial ties and her upbringing. Growing up surrounded by a melting pot of musical genres, she credits her mother and grandparents for instilling in her a love for music from an early age. The influence of classics like “My Girl” by the Temptations served as the foundation for Dajah’s musical education, delivered with a personal touch of musical memorization from her mother. From the deep roots of southern Baptist hymns to the empowering melodies of R&B divas, Dajah absorbed a rich spectrum of sounds that would later shape her artistic identity.

Grammy-nominated artist Porter Robinson released his highly anticipated third studio album SMILE! 😀 via MOM+POP. [Stream here].

Porter’s most ambitious and vulnerable album to date, SMILE! 😀 is laden with social commentary on the paradox of modern artistry, internet culture, and celebrity. The album untangles Porter’s complicated relationship with fame in the digital age, and the uneasy balance between authenticity and performance – from Porter’s juxtaposed position on trendsetting with “Kitsune Maison Freestyle” to his views on fandom on “Cheerleader”.

Across the record, Porter offers a unique blend of honest and sarcastic lyricism, exaggerating the depths of his poignant opinions with cheeky phrases like “Bitch I’m Taylor Swift” on “Knock Yourself Out XD,” alongside more earnest moments on songs like “Russian Roulette” and “Perfect Pinterest Garden”. SMILE! 😀 touches on themes of self worth and acceptance, social stigmas and expectations, and the ups and downs of stardom from his teenage years through adulthood.

SMILE! 😀 is a 10-track display of the maximalist hyperpop, alternative, pop punk, and indie styles that define Robinson’s new era, as premiered by Robinson at a sold-out intimate listening party at Echoplex in Los Angeles, where he played the album in full to fans for the first time.

Philadelphia-based indie pop star Kississippi shares her highly anticipated sharp-tongued, spellbinding EP, damned if i do it for youout everywhere now. Alongside the release of the full project, the artist shares the raucous, self-acceptance anthem “Jesus Freak” out now. The project sees the artist reckon with past and present pain as she carves a path forward that celebrates who she is today through splashy, striking production, evocative vocals and her own distinct brand of heart-wrenching punky pop.

Tonight, the artist will conclude her West Coast tour with an official EP release show live in Los Angeles at Permanent Records Roadhouse with support from indie rock musician talker. Tickets are on sale now via kissys.world/tour.

Over four fervent tracks, damned if i do it for you is an unrelenting exploration into the heart. Reuniting with 2021’s magnetic effort Mood Ring producer Andy Park (Future Teens, Death Cab For Cutie), Kississippi found her stride again, only this time, with fresh life experiences to draw from and a newfound sense of self. When she felt stuck while writing, she brought her drafts to Dan Campbell (The Wonder Years, Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties) for workshopping, then brought those drafts to Illuminati Hotties’ own Sarah Tudzin (boygenius, Speedy Ortiz) and Maddie Ross for finishing touches and studio time. The seeds of the project’s touching finale “Bird Song” also came together during that time and ultimately sprouted with Park.

To Kississippi, the sentimental collection is “a journey of introspection, peeling back all of your layers and searching for the love that you’ve always dreamed of within yourself. It’s a battle to find bliss in solitude, while you’re still healing from the wounds of a shattered heart. Along the way, it uncovers truths about identity and grapples with whether or not the imperfections you’ve found can be transformed into something beautiful. It’s a path to self-discovery and growth, as you navigate the complexities of self-love and acceptance.”
