INsiders Guide: Anne Stott, Thomas Thomas, B FABIAN, Evan Fong, Michigander, JOHAN LENOX…

Anne Stott is on a relentless quest for transcendent creative expression. Anne channels her signature edgy compassion and earnest irreverence to write songs that light fires and heal wounds. She’s a good girl to the bad girls and a bad girl to the good girls who wants to break all the rules so we can love each other better.

Dividing her time between New York City and Cape Cod, Anne is a singer/songwriter of cinematic agitpop and indie rock, a multi-instrumentalist, an actor, a political rabble rouser and a creativity junkie. She has performed in a wide range of venues across the northeast and beyond, from busking in the streets of Provincetown to commanding center stage in historic New York City clubs.

Anne’s songs have chronicled a flourishing artistic evolution. Classically trained on piano before learning guitar, Anne incorporates keyboards, a resonant six string acoustic and a black Les Paul into the mix. Her first full length album titled Pennsylvania established Anne’s unique lyric voice within an indie folk rock sound. Love Never Dies, her second full length record, was co-produced with Jon Evans (Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan) and expanded into more eclectic song forms and strikingly cinematic touches. Peaking at #19 on the Relix Magazine Radio Chart, Boston Spirit Magazine noted that “Even [Love Never Dies’] most vulnerable songs turn loneliness into a life affirming anthem.” SHE Magazine said, “Stott is a bewitching cross between Joni Mitchell and The Pretenders’ front woman Chrissie Hynde. Run, don’t walk.”

The title track of Thomas Thomas’ new release, “One Lone Candle,” is a slow burn love song that highlights a steady, enduring romance. A mo-town meets garage-pop anthem, the song is a departure from the typical fiery, short-lived love songs, instead reflecting a love that glows steadily over time. With urgent guitars, sparkly girl-gang backing vocals that call to mind The Supremes, and a throwback production style, “One Lone Candle” is a love song meant to soar.

This was the band’s first time working with producer Graham Lessard (StarsThe Barr Brothers), and they pushed themselves to evolve their sound beyond their familiar garage roots, stepping into a more modern pop production while preserving the nostalgic, throwback feel that has been central to their music. The title of the song is inspired by the unextinguishable candle on a birthday cake and the girlfriend that teases you with her steadiness.

Just two months after the release of his laid-back single 5 O’Clock Somewhere,” Cree and Dene country artist B Fabian keeps his momentum going with the debut of the track’s official music video. Premiering today on his YouTube channel, the video adds a rich visual layer to the song’s celebration of life’s small joys and well-earned moments of relaxation.

The music video follows the success of the exclusive premiere of “5 O’Clock Somewhere” on Divine Magazine and shows B Fabian leaning fully into his strength as a storyteller. The visuals capture scenes of laughter, unwinding, and connection—offering a snapshot of the heart and spirit behind the track.

“I wanted the video to reflect what the song is all about—those simple but meaningful moments where everything feels right,” says B Fabian. “It’s a reminder that sometimes the best celebrations are the quiet, everyday ones.”

Emerging multi-creative artist Evan Fong launches his brand new artist project with debut single ‘Spawn!’. Evan who is also widely known as VanossGaming (25.9M Subscribers) on YouTube is entering into a new creative phase of his career. ‘Spawn!’ is entirely written, produced, arranged and mixed by Evan and the lead single for his upcoming EP set to release later this year.

The last decade has seen Michigander quietly emerge as a 21st century troubadour whose deft balance of rock energy, alternative adventurousness, and heart-on-his-sleeve songcraft has endeared him to audiences and critics alike. Born in Michigan and based in Nashville, singer, songwriter, and producer Jason Singer has steadily tallied over 100M worldwide streams across a series of EPs, including 2018’s Midland, 2019’s Where Do We Go From Here, and 2021’s Everything Will Be OK Eventually, highlighted by such breakthrough tracks as “Misery” (17.5M streams) and “Let Me Down” (10.7M streams). Last year saw Michigander’s It Will Never Be The Same EP arrive to high profile praise from such outlets as NPR, which declared, “It’s impossible not to root for Singer, whose mix of optimism and vulnerability in his music has been one of indie rock’s most exciting stories in the last few years.” Michigander further won over fans with live performances alongside Silversun Pickups and Pete Yorn as well as at such festivals as Lollapalooza. Now, with the long awaited release of his self-titled debut album, Michigander embraces an even greater sonic confidence on a collection sure to resonate for a long time to come.

“The last 10 years were awesome,” Singer says. “Everything built up to this point though. To make an analogy, the EPs were like television episodes of my story, and the album is the movie version. It’s blown up on the big screen. I’m just getting started, but this is my introduction to the world.”

highly regarded singer, composer, and producer, Johan Lenox, shares his latest single, ‘When Morning Comes’ – the first release from his new upcoming project, setting the tone for what promises to be a groundbreaking year whilst kicking off North American Tour with 070 Shake next week. The track introduces listeners to an experimental and evocative sound that marries together contemporary and classical elements in the signature style of its creator.

Electro-pop innovator, M the Myth, kicks off the year with their latest single, “Whiplash,” a haunting exploration of heartbreak and healing. Released today, the track pushes boundaries both sonically and emotionally, blending lush electro-pop textures with deeply introspective lyrics. “Whiplash” began as a soft piano ballad, but under the skilled production of DJ and producer Niño Neon, the song evolved into a vivid electronic odyssey. “Niño has such incredible taste, and his knowledge of the Latinx alt-pop scene was crucial in shaping the direction of ‘Whiplash,’” says M the Myth. “He pushed me to bring more to the track, and I trusted his vision. We replaced the piano with a Reese bass and added mid-range distortion, creating a crisp and saturated sound. Together, we crafted an electronic wasteland that’s both dreamlike and surreal.”

Atmospheric indie-rock artist, Byland, has joined forces with acclaimed singer/songwriter, The Bones of J.R. Jones (Jonathon Linaberry), for the new single, “Jubilee.” After several nights of onstage collaboration during a February 2024 tour, writing together felt like the natural next step. LISTEN HERE.

Between busy tour schedules, the two eventually crossed paths again in Los Angeles and got to work. After starting the song with her husband, Jake Byland, Alie brought what would become “Jubilee” to Linaberry.

“Right away I felt like the lyrics, ‘What would happen if you put down the weight of the world’ meant something different to each of us,” she says. “He, a seasoned musician who’s spent years on the road, and me, in my formative and eager years in this career. We spent a while together, going over the melody, fine-tuning the first verse, and writing instrumental chords. It felt like we both realized this could be special.”

They parted ways with Jonathon’s objective set to write the second verse, which brought both Bylands to tears when they heard it.

Glimmerjean & Goode is a Toronto based rock n’ soul duo led by Linny Gillard and Scotty B. Goode. The two began writing music together back in 2016, drawing inspiration from 60s Laurel Canyon, Detroit Rock City, Nashville honky-tonk and Motown. Their sound is a powerful blend of guitar-driven original classic rock steeped in nostalgia. A sound uniquely their own, that defies categorization and brings music lovers of all genres along for the ride.

Emerging from the ashes of traditional music, Newbridge is a powerful blend of Americana, folk, and roots-rock from Halifax, Nova Scotia. The band features Canadian music veterans Keith Maddison (Maddison Avenue), Glen Nicholson (In-Flight Safety), Jeff Mosher (The Mellotones, Matt Andersen), Warren Robert (Myles Goodwyn, Pogey), and Robbie Crowell (Sturgill Simpson, Deer Tick, Midland, Matt Mays).

The group’s musical journey led them to Nashville, Tennessee, where they recorded their debut album at the legendary Creative Workshops Studio (CWS), co-produced by the talented Robbie Crowell. Built in 1971, CWS has hosted legendary recording sessions with Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings, the Doobie Brothers, and Rod Stewart and was the backdrop to the iconic music documentary film ‘Heartworn Highways’.

Drawing from diverse influences such as The Band, Van Morrison, The Wallflowers, Tom Petty, and Stan Rogers, Newbridge blends folk and country roots with a bluesy rock/R&B feel. Collaborating with Nashville heavyweights Laur Joamets (Sturgill Simpson), Cory Younts (Old Crow Medicine Show), Shannon McNally (Dr. John, Levon Helm), and Amber Woodhouse (Trigger Hippy), they’ve crafted a unique range of songs, from heartfelt ballads to roll-the-windows-down summer anthems. “We knew early on we had something special, something worth pursuing. Once we recorded a few demos, we sent them to our old pal Robbie in Nashville. Right away he encouraged us to make the pilgrimage down to Nashville and make a record with him. He was really into it. The stars aligned, so how could we say no?” explains Maddison.

Out of admiration for great songwriters like Leonard Cohen, Lou Reed and Thom Yorke, brothers Charlie and Jack Silver began writing together when they were 14 and 15 respectively. Pulling from a deep well of inspiration, from their childhood to fictional characters and everything in between, songs beyond their years took shape. With a voice reminiscent of the likes of Mark Lanegan and Julian Casablancas, Jack’s lyricism shines beyond their soundscapes, delivering lines like, “Every word you’ve said to me is printed somewhere in my mind / Like obituaries placed between the comics and the crime.” Soon, they began playing shows around the area with drummer Luke Tan, building Cut The Kids in Half’s reputation as an alt-rock group that harnesses a standout live presence.

After spending a summer in a Los Angeles studio and recording songs in New Jersey, their debut album What We Became began to come to life. Vignettes of struggle, loss and life came to the forefront, soundtracked by soaring guitars and sticky melodies. Most of the record was produced by Lee DeWyze in LA with Ray Ketchem (Guided By Voices, Alex Chilton) recording in New Jersey. Heading to college in Boston, the brothers soon added guitarist Kevin Mortenson and bassist, keyboardist and trumpeter Joey Sorkin to their live trio. A group of native New Jerseyans, Cut the Kids in Half follows in the state’s storied musical tradition of raw but fine-tuned lyricism paired with gritty guitars.

Nashville, Tennessee-based singer-songwriter Jesse Daniel Edwards returns with a deeply personal and stripped-back album, Jesse Daniel Edwards, out February 21, 2025, via Cavity Search Records. Recorded live on 2-track tape by Scott McEwen at Memphis Magnetic Recording Co. in April 2024 on a Chickering Grand Piano, this self-titled release marks a new chapter in Edwards’ evolving artistic journey, offering an intimate, raw portrayal of his musical and emotional world. Performed, recorded, and manufactured in Memphis, the album features just Edwards and his piano, a pared-down approach that contrasts with the more elaborate, rock-driven sounds of his previous works. It’s a work of reflection, honesty, and vulnerability, captured with a simplicity that speaks volumes.

Dutch singer-songwriter Goldkimono (Martijn ‘Tienus’ Konijnenburg) is set to release the bubbly ‘Lifetime’ on January 29th via his own Camp Kimono Records.

Following an impressive trajectory with debut album ‘The Legend Of The Goldkimono’ in 2022, Martijn ‘Tienus’ Konijnenburg is making his mark on contemporary musicThe new single is taken from his upcoming album, to be released later this year and co-produced by Martijn himself and Tim Bran (London Grammar, Birdy). It emerges from a moment of doom scrolling and self-reflecting, resulting in the simple realisation: “this ain’t your timeline, this is your lifetime”. Whilst being disguised as a sun-drenched pop tune with an addictive carefree vibe, dig deeper and Goldkimono’s animated lyrics actually explore the discord between our digital existence and real-world connections.

Goldkimono: “‘Lifetime’ reflects on the chaos and disconnection in the modern world, from global tensions to personal struggles. The song touches on themes of spiritual awareness, unity, and the quest for inner peace in a world full of digital distractions.”

Irish newcomer Altara returns with his brand new single pleasedontleave. The track arrives as a thumping bop that will send you hurtling into the here and now.

Listen HERE

Having always held a flame for EDM, pleasedontleave leans into Altara’s

love for electronica, alt-pop and his ability to fuse early influences into

something that’s entirely his own. Sharing a little more, Altara explained: Something I struggle with a lot is how much faster life can move than music.

After I put out my debut single, I already felt that creeping up on me, so I got straight back into the studio to work on how I was feeling..

I wrote and produced ‘pleasedontleave’ as intuitively as I could. The inspiration came from one particular moment; I vividly remember having an argument & being asked what happens next, and in that moment I said ‘I don’t know, but just please don’t leave.

I don’t know why but it really stuck with me. I don’t like to think of myself in that place.”

David Jane is a singer, songwriter and filmmaker from Toronto, Ontario.

David has and continues to indulge himself in as much music, film, writing and all forms of cultural expression that he can, channelling influences as varied as classic hollywood, hip-hop, philosophy, rock, foreign films, literature, anime, theory, visual arts and modern pop into the attempted comprehension of his own life and the world around him, fuelling his art. As obsessed with pop culture as he is detached from it, David brings a versed insight to the contemporary perspective, writing songs grounded in disconnection, uncertainty and desire. His voice is as honest as the thoughts and emotions he writes about.

David’s first EP, Welcome to Today, came from an excavation of these influences, showcasing an inspired blend of genre bolstered by deeply personal and playful lyrics. The EP was released in the midst of Covid, followed by the dreamy, surreal music video for lead single “Velvet Queen.” As Covid persisted, however, and the world refused to re-open, David found himself craving new experiences and discovering a newfound inspiration in his lingering passion for film. Eager to re-engage with the world and reignite that creative spirit, he pursued this interest to Vancouver Film School. Vancouver quickly became everything David was looking for and more. There, he found an amalgamation of community, creativity and adventure, falling in love for the first time and meeting many kindred spirits. Upon his return, David wrote, directed and produced his first short film, “Apnea,” featuring a brand new single “Eye On You” written specifically for the credits. The film will officially premiere at Toronto’s acclaimed Blood in the Snow horror festival in November 2024.

San Franciscan artist Grooblen returns today with a new journey into colorful offbeat psych pop. The Convenience Of Being” is a deceptively breezy single that soon spills into the wonky guitar wig-outs that have come to typify the Grooblen live show. The song channels a moment of clarity when singer/songwriter Ellie Stokes realized her existence was being treated as a ‘convenience’ for someone with little regard for her own needs.  She explains this genesis for the song, stating her “realization that a friendship I was in had become one-sided. I became a go-to person to talk at, or only getting contacted when emotions were high. I decided to respectfully remove myself from this tiring pattern that had started, and this experience also led me to look a little more internally for how I can do better as a friend.”

“The Convenience Of Being” arrives as the lead-off single from a new Grooblen EP, FRIENDO, which will be released on April 10th. This EP sees Stokes return to a collaborative partnership with bay-area producer Jim Greer (Foster The People, Handsome Boy Modeling School), who helmed the sessions for 2023’s A Wormhole Is A Freeway To The Stars. Greer is also responsible for putting the EP out via his own War Chant Records.

MEGGO, the creative evolution of multidisciplinary musician and producer Megan Ennenberg, crafts music that merges raw acoustic roots with modern technological innovation, resulting in a soundscape that feels both intimate and otherworldly.

Rooted in the bluegrass and folk traditions of the Pacific mountains where she grew up, and steeped in the alternative-indie influence of Montreal, MEGGO’s music and production challenge the status quo, weaving together themes of autonomy, power, and female imagination while defying genre norms. Through her work, MEGGO has cultivated a distinct voice that offers a fresh perspective on folk music, layering raw acoustic sounds with digital manipulations to create an experimental, genre-bending sonic landscape.

As a core member of FLEECE, a beloved indie-rock band known for its queer-positive, community-oriented performances, Megan has spent years refining her voice. After ten years with FLEECE, performing alongside popular acts like Sammy Rae & the Friends and Tokyo Police Club, Megan launched MEGGO in 2021 to expand her artistic expression in ways that delve more deeply into personal and experimental realms. This evolution has led her to explore new, uncharted territories in her debut EP, eavesdropper ;; death stories, where she takes listeners on an introspective journey through grief, healing, and profound awareness.

Emily Daccarett is a Los Angeles-based alternative pop artist known for her cinematic approach to music, blending 70s rock and 80s pop with haunting, otherworldly soundscapes. A true multidisciplinary artist, Emily incorporates her background in fashion and film into her work, crafting immersive experiences for her audience.

After graduating from Paris’s prestigious Instituto Marangoni and La Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, Emily returned to L.A. to establish her indie production company. Her work has been praised for its bold storytelling and captivating visuals, earning her a reputation as a rising star in the alternative pop world.

Rising Alt-Pop artist Dela Kay released her first single of the year, “Remedy” – an electrifying track that captures the bittersweet emotions of navigating love after a relationship ends. With high energy, playful melodies, and an undercurrent of yearning, the single showcases a fresh sonic direction for the artist while staying true to her distinctive alt-pop roots.

Ski Team is the solo moniker of Lucie Lozinski, an independent songwriter, singer, producer, and guitarist who’s known for her yearning lyrics, crystalline voice, and gritty instrumentation. American Songwriter has described her music as “… a quasi-Americana sound, combining traditional folk and rock elements with undeniably modern soundscapes.”

Originally from New Jersey, Lozinski infuses everything with a bit of her roots. “That sounds like New Jersey,” says Lozinski about the anthemic distorted guitar chorus on her single “Don’t Give Up (Yet)” out now. She writes vulnerably about her relationships with people and places. “I move a lot,” she says. “My songs usually come from being stuck somewhere—in a rut with a friend, with a boyfriend repeating the same fights, in a city that all my friends have left.”

The daughter of musicians, Lozinski grew up with a recording studio in her backyard and ample opportunities to perform, including the U.S. Open international tennis championship when she was just eight years old. She’s sung with icons like Tony Bennett and Queen Latifa as well as hometown friends Kevin Kuh (of Pool Cosby), Sam Ryan, and her brother’s band Snacks Chapman. Although Lozinski has been an unlisted vocalist on albums since her childhood, it wasn’t until she met producer Bobby Renz in San Francisco in 2019 that she readied her own music for release. The pair recorded Ski Team’s latest singles at Different Fur Records in the Mission District, which also provided the single’s cover art. “I took that picture of the dog in the car in the Mission,” explained Lozinski. “It’s such a vibe and conveys all I could ever hope to communicate about my own personality.”

Chicago, US-Knuckle Puck, have today released the gritty and anthemic track “Nice To Know Ya”The song follows on from previous track “On All Cylinders”– the first in the line of new music from this beloved band.

“When writing Nice to Know Ya, we tried to take an older approach by keeping it as out-of-the-box as we could. This includes uglier chords, a spoken verse, and push-pull lyrics to match the juxtaposition of the verse and chorus. One of our goals for this band originally was to keep the listener guessing with our songwriting, something we are excited to bring back with this song.” says the band

Hailing from Wrocław, Poland, Bagdad are excited to announce their debut EP, They Don’t Knowset for release on March 27, 2025 via Houston’s tastemaking Rite Field Records. To celebrate the announcement, they’re sharing their first-ever single, “Valley of Dry Bones.” This gritty, hypnotic track encapsulates the angsty sound of 90s grunge, giving listeners a brooding atmospheric experience. A trio consisting of guitarist and vocalist Franciszek Drobiński, bassist Wojciech Stach and drummer Jakub Gadamski, Bagdad bring their unique, Eastern European sensibilities to songs bursting with melancholy and emotional resistance.

“I wrote this song in 2021, I was just sitting at home playing guitar and this theme popped into my head, which later became the main riff,” frontman Franciszek Drobiński explains. “Later, when I was writing the lyrics to it, a picture I saw once in some book as a child came to mind. It was a scene from the Bible, depicting Ezekiel’s vision of The Valley of Dry Bones. The song was a bit about something else, but the image stuck in my mind so much that it became the title.“

Rising singer-songwriter Avery Lynch reveals her poignant new single, “the boys who don’t know what they want,” out today via RECORDS.

Since making her debut in 2020, Avery Lynch has enchanted listeners worldwide with her emotionally charged, piano-driven ballads, amassing over 100 million streams. “the boys who don’t know what they want” is yet another testament to Avery’s exceptional ability to channel raw emotion through minimalist production and her captivating vocals. The song explores the vulnerability and frustration of navigating relationships with indecisive men, offering a deeply relatable narrative that’s sure to resonate with many listeners.

The title of the song really says it all,” Avery elaborates. “I wrote this song about those ‘almost’ relationships that I’ve been in myself and have observed around me — people will act the part of someone in a relationship while not wanting one, or they’ll want a relationship and not act on it. I made this song as a sister-song to ‘you’re just a guy” and, just like that song, this doesn’t feel specifically sad to me, it feels more matter-of-fact. It’s just something I’ve observed that we’ve all experienced and don’t want to experience anymore.”

The new year begins on a high note with the release of Phoenix – the latest single from rising songstress Hope Tala, ahead of her highly anticipated debut album, Hope Handwritten, slated for release on February 28, 2025, via PMR Records. This new release will usher in the year with its divine euphonic quality, further showcasing Hope’s ability to craft uniquely individual songs that unite into a cohesive listening experience.

Speaking on Phoenix, Hope states:

“Sometimes, when I’m writing a song, I’m not thinking how it might fit onto a project – I’m writing instead with the intention of confessing a feeling or communicating something significant to someone I love. I wrote ‘Phoenix’ for my best friend while we were separated geographically after a long period of time seeing each other every day, in an attempt to express some of what our friendship means to me. It was of course inevitable that this song, which is about how friendship has lifted me from darkness into hope, would eventually find its way onto Hope Handwritten.”

Following on from the buzz of his last two singles, rising R&B/Soul talent Alex Ko starts the new year in style with his heart-achingly beautiful new release “Better Know” – set to drop January 24th, taken from his debut EP Sentiments landing on January 31st.

Stripped back, elegant production lays the perfect foundation for Alex’s impressive vocal abilities as he glides between full voice and falsetto, effortlessly dancing through intricate riffs. Stacked with layers of perfectly placed R&B harmonies, the track’s lyrical vulnerability shines through as Alex tells the empowering story of moving on from a broken relationship and finding your worth. ‘Falling from your lips, spilling from your eyes, no limit to the feelings you won’t imitate to throw scent off your lies, but I’m wise to it now’, he pleads as we reach the 30hertzbeats-produced track’s emotional apex.

Alex goes on to tells us: “Better Know is a letter to someone who wronged me and the life lessons I learnt from it. It’s about the moment I let them know that they didn’t hold power over me anymore.”

Following critical acclaim across his stunning cinematic cut “Anima (Think of You)”, Bavé returns with his new single “Yayo” – released via The Satchi Six.

With heavy-weight percussion and potent 808s laying groundwork for his raw vocal harmonies, “Yayo” continues to define the Swedish powerhouse as standout. Delving into an unfamiliar space of psychedelia, the track oscillates between lightness and dark, with Bavé’s intricate wordplay and falsetto shining front and centre. Confronting the seductive and destructive influences that distort our realities, this captivating performance stands as a testament to his artistic integrity, dancing through the intoxicating allure of temptation and seeking a way out of the spiralling abyss.

Speaking on the track, Bavé mentions: ”’Yayo’ is about a place within that was once filled with life and light but is now silent and empty. The song captures the fallout of loving someone whose addiction destroyed it all.”
