The cast of the upcoming submarine action film, Subversion, has expanded with the addition of a prominent new star, according to THR. The outlet reports that Lily James (known for The Iron Claw) has officially joined the project. She will appear alongside Chris Hemsworth, portraying a Coast Guard officer in pursuit of a naval commander (Hemsworth) who has been coerced into smuggling illegal cargo across international waters.
The film is set to be directed by Patrick Vollrath (7500) under the banner of Amazon MGM Studios, with a screenplay penned by Andrew Ferguson. This project marks a strengthening of Hemsworth’s ongoing partnership with Amazon, as he is also set to star in their upcoming production, Crime 101. Details about the remaining cast members have not yet been revealed.
Lily James recently appeared in 2023’s The Iron Claw and Finally Dawn, and is currently cast in the thriller Relay. Additionally, she is filming a role in Takashi Miike’s next movie, Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo, which is slated for future release.
Director Patrick Vollrath is best known for his 2015 short film Everything Will Be Okay, and his follow-up work includes the 2019 feature 7500, which starred Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a pilot whose plane is hijacked. 7500 was his last film before taking on Subversion.
