A new television adaptation of the popular Hostel franchise is in development, with Eli Roth serving as writer, director, and executive producer, alongside actor Paul Giamatti, known for his role in Billions. The project has found a home at Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming platform, marking a significant step for the franchise’s expansion into television.

This potential series would be the latest addition to the Hostel universe, which began with the original film in 2005. The franchise continued with Hostel: Part II in 2007 and Hostel: Part III in 2011. Roth, who directed and produced the first two films, is now involved in bringing the series to the small screen, though details about the storyline and Giamatti’s character remain under wraps.

Announced initially in June 2024, the project gained attention when it was revealed that Roth and Giamatti are attached to the series, with Peacock now confirmed as the platform for its development. As one of the leading streaming services in the United States, NBCUniversal’s platform is a fitting home for such an ambitious project.

Roth’s involvement spans multiple roles, including writing, directing, and executive production. The series is being developed by Fifth Season, a production and distribution company, with Mike Fleiss and Chris Briggs, who produced the original films, also serving as executive producers.

Historically, the Hostel movies revolve around travelers who stumble into deadly situations with the deadly Elite Hunting Club in Europe. The first two films enjoyed commercial success in theaters, while the third was released directly to DVD.

Paul Giamatti, widely regarded as one of his generation’s most talented actors, has appeared in numerous acclaimed films such as Private Parts, Win Win, and received Oscar nominations for his performances in Cinderella Man and The Holdovers.

As of now, there is no official release date set for the Hostel television series.
