Nearly twenty years after its initial theatrical debut, Nancy Meyers’ beloved holiday romantic comedy, The Holiday, is set to be reimagined as a television miniseries by Apple TV+. Despite mixed reviews from critics upon its release, the film resonated strongly with audiences, earning an impressive 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter. According to Deadline, Apple TV+ has begun developing the series, which will feature a fresh cast of characters. Like the original film, the adaptation will follow the intertwined stories of an American woman and a British woman who decide to exchange homes for the festive season. The series is scripted by Krissie Ducker and Rob Delaney, with Ducker also serving as an executive producer for Left Bank Pictures.

Sources indicate that the show’s producers are aiming to cast well-known actresses to lead the new storylines. Notably, Nancy Meyers is not involved in the project’s current development phase.

The Holiday was both written and directed by Meyers, who is renowned for her work on comedy classics such as Father of the Bride, The Parent Trap, Something’s Gotta Give, and The Intern. The original film starred Cameron Diaz as Amanda Woods, Kate Winslet as Iris Simpkins, Jude Law as Graham, Jack Black as Miles, among others. At the box office, it grossed over $200 million worldwide.

The film’s plot centered on two women—one from the United States and the other from Britain—who, following painful breakups, swap homes during Christmas. While each woman encounters romance with a local man, they soon realize that their newfound relationships may be short-lived once they prepare to return home.
