Greenland 2: Migration has officially announced its release date as it gears up for its debut in the 2026 cinematic lineup. Following the original film’s success during the pandemic era, the upcoming sequel aims to sustain the franchise’s upward trajectory. With a scheduled launch, this survival thriller is positioned for a significant box office debut. Lionsgate has set the release date for Greenland 2: Migration on January 9, 2026. The film, starring Gerard Butler, was previously without a firm release window. It will occupy the slot initially allocated to Lionsgate’s Mutiny, which has now been moved to an undetermined summer 2026 release.

The storyline continues to follow the Garrity family—John (Gerard Butler), Allison (Morena Baccarin), and their son—as they emerge from their bunker in Greenland after surviving a devastating comet impact. Their journey takes them across a ravaged Earth in pursuit of a new sanctuary.

Joining the cast are Amber Rose Revah, Trond Fausa Aurvåg, and William Abadie. Ric Roman Waugh returns to direct the sequel, with the screenplay penned by Mitchell LaFortune and Chris Sparling. The project is produced by Basil Iwanyk, Gerard Butler, Alan Siegel, Sébastien Raybaud, John Zois, and Brendon Boyea.

Production companies involved include STX Entertainment, G-Base Entertainment, Thunder Road Pictures, and Anton. The original Greenland, released in 2020, achieved notable international success, debuting at number one in several countries such as Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Russia, with over $52 million grossed globally. In the U.S., the film bypassed traditional theatrical release due to COVID-19 but reportedly secured a lucrative $20–30 million deal through PVOD and HBO streaming platforms. The upcoming sequel continues the collaboration between Butler and Waugh, building on the momentum of the first film, which proved to be a strong performer despite pandemic-related hurdles during its initial release.
