Millennium Media has officially announced the casting of an actor to portray the youthful version of Sylvester Stallone’s legendary character in the upcoming Rambo film. This marks a significant departure, as it will be the first time the character is played by someone other than Stallone. The actor chosen for this role is Noah Centineo, known for his recent work in action and drama genres.

Stallone originally brought Rambo to life in the 1972 film First Blood, which launched the enduring franchise. However, he is not involved in the new project, though reports suggest he remains informed about its development.

While the film currently lacks an official distributor, Lionsgate is believed to be the leading contender to acquire it. Production is slated to begin this fall in Thailand, with Jalmari Helander (Sisu, Big Game) directing from a script by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. The film’s producers include Kevin King-Templeton, Les Weldon, Jonathan Yunger, and Avi Lerner, with Trevor Short, Dallas Sonnier, and Amanda Presmyk serving as executive producers.

According to Deadline, this new film will serve as a prequel, exploring Rambo’s origins during the Vietnam War. Noah Centineo, who has previously demonstrated his action chops in Netflix’s The Recruit, will star as the young John Rambo. He gained international fame with his role as Peter Kavinsky in the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy and has recently appeared in Alex Garland’s Warfare alongside Joseph Quinn and Charles Melton.

In addition to this project, Centineo is set to portray Ken Masters in Legendary’s upcoming live-action Street Fighter film, scheduled for release in 2026.
