Magnolia Pictures has unveiled the teaser trailer for The Carpenter’s Son, an upcoming horror film inspired by the apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas. This ancient text narrates stories from the childhood of Jesus Christ, which will be reimagined in the movie. Scheduled for release in theaters this fall, the trailer offers viewers their first glimpse of the main cast, featuring Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage as the Carpenter, singer and actress FKA Twigs as the Mother, and Noah Jupe of A Quiet Place as the Boy. The cast also includes Isla Johnston, Souheila Yacoub, Penelope Markopoulou, Kaiti Manolidaki, Tomer Lev Tov, and others.
Directed and written by Lotfy Nathan, The Carpenter’s Son is a project with executive producers Scott Aharoni, Jackie Bernon, Noémie Devide, Sinan Eczacibasi, Harry Finkel, Yiannis Iakovidis, Eugene Kotlyarenko, David Levine, Nick Shumaker, Jennifer Venditti, Theo Vieljeux, and Metin Alihan Yalcindag. The creative team features cinematographer Simon Beaufils, editor Sophie Corra, and composer Lorenz Dangel.
The film’s synopsis describes a dark tale set in Roman Egypt, where a family is in hiding. The story centers on “the Boy,” the son, who begins to question his surroundings after encountering a mysterious child. His rebellion against his guardian, the Carpenter, uncovers hidden powers and a destiny far beyond what he understands. As he begins to wield his newfound abilities, the Boy and his family become targets of both natural and divine horrors.
