Nicolas Cage is set to reunite with director Simon West for their upcoming film, Fortitude, a World War II spy action-adventure inspired by a true story. The movie chronicles the daring efforts of British Intelligence operatives who employed groundbreaking strategic deception tactics to outsmart Nazi leaders, ultimately altering the course of the war. Filming has already commenced in London.
According to the official synopsis, the film benefits from historical consultation with Joshua Levine, known for Dunkirk and Blitz. It highlights the ingenuity of British Army officers Dudley Clarke and Thomas Argyll “TAR” Robertson, who orchestrated an intricate network of false military units, fake equipment, and double agents to deceive Nazi intelligence. Among these agents was Yugoslavian playboy Dusko Popov, a real-life double agent who served as a blueprint for James Bond. His espionage activities helped transform real-life espionage into legendary stories that inspired Ian Fleming’s novels.
In addition to Cage, the cast features Matthew Goode (The Imitation Game), Ed Skrein (Jurassic World: Rebirth), Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness), Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon), Jordi Mollà (Mobland), Art Malik (True Lies), Lukas Haas (Inception), Adrian Topol (Franz + Polina), Emilio Sakraya (Sixty Minutes), Paul Anderson (Peaky Blinders), and Ben Kingsley (Gandhi).
West is directing from a screenplay by Simon Afram (Lear Rex, Wilde Salomé). The film is produced by Afram, Georgette Turner (Edge of Tomorrow, Wonder Woman), Reza Roohi (ATL Hustle), and Edward Kahl (Queen of Manhattan). Executive producers are Bianca Goodloe and David Scaramanga. Afram expressed excitement about the project, stating, “We are thrilled to bring together such a talented ensemble. Their chemistry and depth, combined with West’s direction, will make this story truly gripping and unforgettable.”
