One of music’s most dynamic and powerful voices, India Shawn released her new single and video for “Gone” today. The song, written by India Shawn, D’Mile, Bianca “Blush” Atterbery, and Jean Baptiste Kouame, continues Shawn’s self-empowering and relatable style of penning memorable and instantly catchy storytelling. The production (produced by Oscar® and Grammy® winner D’Mile and engineered by D’Mile and Grammy® winner John Kercy) is loaded with unexpected gems – surf guitars, whistling, clapping, and culminates with a piano solo that embodies a feeling of freedom when you regain your sense of self.
The video clip was directed by David Maxwell and gives a neo-Western cinematic scope to the Soul/Pop anthem, highlighting Shawn’s liberating and empowering vocals. India’s unique style, impossibly earthy and glam at the same time, add to the visual drama.
Said India Shawn about “Gone,” “ ‘Gone’ isn’t just about someone leaving, it’s about what I gain in their absence. Peace. Clarity. Strength. This song is about being more than okay alone—it’s about finally feeling powerful in it. ‘Gone’ is about releasing what doesn’t serve you—not in bitterness, but in clarity. It’s me learning that being alone isn’t lonely when you’re finally honest about what you deserve. I wrote it from that moment where you stop fighting to fix something that keeps breaking you, and instead, you choose yourself. Sonically, I wanted to break out of my own box with this song. D’Mile and I kept pushing until it felt bigger than just a pretty track—it had to feel like an anthem for finally walking away and not looking back.”
India Shawn is currently on tour with Free Nationals and Giveon.
