Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie are teaming up once again for a new action film. According to a report from Variety, the pair will collaborate on an upcoming thriller titled Viva La Madness. The project remains mostly shrouded in mystery, but it is said to be based on J.J. Connolly’s 2011 novel of the same name. This novel is a sequel to Connolly’s 2004 book, Layer Cake, which was also adapted into a film directed by Matthew Vaughn.
Viva La Madness centers on a London drug dealer known as X, and follows his life filled with “sex, scams, narcotics, and dirty money,” as described in the novel.
The report notes that the film will be a standalone story, with no planned spin-offs or other adaptations of Connolly’s work. Details about the cast are still under wraps, but Ritchie will serve as both writer and director. Statham will take on a production role alongside Thomas Benski, with filming scheduled to begin in January.
This project marks the sixth collaboration between Statham and Ritchie. Their previous collaborations include popular films such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Revolver, Wrath of Man, and Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre.
