The cast for Tom Ford’s upcoming film has been revealed, featuring a notable debut by Adele, who will star in her first feature film role. Ford is set to write and direct Cry To Heaven, an adaptation of an Anne Rice novel. The film boasts an impressive ensemble, including Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Adele, Ciarán Hinds, George MacKay, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, Paul Bettany, Owen Cooper, Daniel Quinn-Toye, Hunter Schafer, Josephine Thiesen, Thandiwe Newton, Theodore Pellerin, Daryl McCormack, Cassian Bilton, Hauk Hannemann, and Lux Pascal.
The source material, Rice’s Cry To Heaven, is described as a tale of music and revenge set in 18th-century Italy. The story centers on two castrated men striving for success in the opera world. The novel explores themes such as identity, betrayal, love, and the quest for artistic and personal freedom.
Currently in pre-production in London and Rome, the film is scheduled to begin shooting in mid-January, with a planned release in fall 2026. Ford will produce the project through his Fade To Black banner. Known primarily for his work in fashion, Ford built the Tom Ford brand, which was sold to Estée Lauder Companies for $2.8 billion in 2023.
Ford has directed and written two films: A Single Man (2009) and Nocturnal Animals (2016). A Single Man starred Colin Firth as a gay college professor coping with the loss of his lover. Firth received widespread acclaim for his performance and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor.
Nocturnal Animals is a psychological thriller about an art gallery owner reflecting on her past mistakes while reading her ex-husband’s manuscript. The film featured Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Michael Shannon. Taylor-Johnson won a Golden Globe for supporting actor, and Shannon received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
