A Sequel TV Show To Point Break Is In Development

A beloved Keanu Reeves film is set to get a TV show sequel.

Throughout his career, Reeves has starred in numerous iconic movies, beginning with his first role in the 1986 film Youngblood. He’s also appeared in notable titles such as Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989), Point Break (1991), Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992), Speed (1994), The Matrix (1999), Constantine (2005), and John Wick (2014), among others. According to Deadline, AMC is now developing a sequel TV series based on Point Break. The project is a collaboration between David Kalstein, Alcon Television Group, and AMC Studios.

The new series is set 35 years after the events of the original film and will focus on a dangerous heist crew with links to the Ex-Presidents gang. Specific plot details are currently being kept under wraps, but it has been noted that AMC secured the project in a highly competitive situation. David Kalstein will write the series and serve as an executive producer, along with producers Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, and Ben Roberts.

Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, the original Point Break features Reeves as FBI agent Johnny Utah. The film’s cast also includes Patrick Swayze as Bodhi, Gary Busey as Angelo Pappas, Lori Petty as Tyler Endicott, John C. McGinley as Ben Harp, and James LeGros as Roach.

The story follows Johnny Utah as he investigates a series of bank robberies in Southern California, where the culprits wear masks of former presidents. The criminals are surfers led by the charismatic Bodhi, who are addicted to the thrill of their robberies. As Utah infiltrates the gang, he falls in love with Tyler, a fellow surfer and close to the group, which complicates his sense of duty.

Point Break was remade in 2015, but the reboot received largely negative reviews from critics. That version starred Édgar Ramírez, Luke Bracey, Ray Winstone, and Teresa Palmer.
