Blumhouse and Warner Bros. have unveiled the first teaser for Lee Cronin’s upcoming film, The Mummy, offering a glimpse into the director’s chilling new take on the classic monster. Known for his work on Evil Dead Rise, Cronin’s The Mummy is set to hit theaters on April 17, 2026.
The official synopsis reveals a haunting story: “The young daughter of a journalist vanishes into the desert without a trace—eight years later, her broken family is stunned when she is returned. What should be a joyful reunion quickly spirals into a living nightmare.” The teaser itself offers limited footage but shows a figure photographing what appears to be a mummy inside a tomb. It also includes glimpses of a family and a girl named Katie, culminating in the terrifying image of the mummy awakening as something crawls out of her mouth.
This film features a cast including Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, Verónica Falcón, May Calamawy, May Elghety, Natalie Grace, Shylo Molina, Billie Roy, and Hayat Kamille.
It’s important to clarify that Cronin’s The Mummy is entirely separate from Universal’s long-running The Mummy franchise, despite some early misconceptions. In an interview with IGN, Cronin emphasized that his film is “a very different kind of mummy movie,” describing it as a blend of two horror classics.
“It’s an insane mashup to suggest, but [this film is] almost one part Poltergeist and one part Seven, filtered through my own lens and style of storytelling,” Cronin explained.
