Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of Squid Game, has shared exciting details about his upcoming Netflix series, including the cast and storyline. Marking his return to the platform, this new project is a gripping, character-driven crime drama set amidst the worlds of gambling and deception.

The series, titled The Dealer, is produced by Hwang’s company, Firstman Studio. Choi Young-hwan will make his directorial debut with the project, bringing his expertise in cinematography from works like Smugglers, Veteran, Tazza: The High Rollers, and The Thieves. The cast includes Jung So-min, Ryoo Seung-bum, Lee Soo-hyuk, and Ryu Kyung-soo.

The Dealer centers on Geonhwa, a talented casino dealer whose life takes a dramatic turn when a housing scam ruins her wedding plans. As described in the series logline, Geonhwa, who has always stayed clear of the casino’s darker side, is forced to re-enter that world. With her hidden skills, she must navigate a perilous underworld where every decision risks her freedom, love, or even her life.

Jung So-min portrays Geonhwa, showcasing a new dimension of her acting as a seasoned dealer. Ryoo Seung-bum plays Hwang Chisu, a gambler struggling to make ends meet until he becomes part of Geonhwa’s high-stakes scheme. Lee Soo-hyuk is cast as Jo Jun, a mysterious casino player with an unreadable poker face, while Ryu Kyung-soo plays Choi Wooseung, a detective and Geonhwa’s fiancé.

Choi Young-hwan, renowned for his work on Smugglers and Veteran, directs the series with an emphasis on dynamic visuals that highlight the tension, glamour, and unpredictability of the casino underworld, as well as the emotional stakes involved.

The script is written by Ohnooy and Lee Tae-young. Netflix is producing the series, with Firstman Studio handling the production. Hwang Dong-hyuk is serving as a producer and has assembled a seasoned creative team. The series is currently in production and will be available exclusively on Netflix upon its release.
