Antony Starr is already gearing up for his next significant project. The popular actor is set to star in a new drama series on Netflix. In the upcoming show, titled Breakers, Starr will play Brando, a charming yet enigmatic leader of a surfing community. The series centers on two American backpackers traveling through Australia who find themselves drawn into Brando’s seemingly perfect world—an environment filled with sun, surf, and hidden tensions. Originally known by the working title Red Bluff, Breakers marks Starr’s first major television role since the announcement that The Boys’ final season is on the horizon.
While Starr is the only cast member officially announced so far, the project boasts a talented creative team. He will serve as an executive producer alongside Jackson, Gavin O’Grady, Petra Fried, and Wim De Greef. Notably, Breakers is the first Netflix series to film in Western Australia, taking advantage of local government incentives.
The series is created and executive produced by Pete Jackson (Somewhere Boy) and is produced by BBC Studios’ Clerkenwell Films, known for acclaimed shows like Baby Reindeer and The End of the F**king World. The directorial lineup includes Mary Nighy (Industry) and Ng Choon Ping (Femme). Production is a joint effort between Clerkenwell Films and BBC Studios Productions Australia, with filming currently underway in Western Australia, supported by Netflix. The streaming platform has not announced a specific release date but has stated that Breakers will arrive on Netflix “sometime soon.”
For Antony Starr, this project marks the beginning of a busy period. He will soon reprise his role as Homelander in The Boys Season 5, premiering on April 8, and has recently finished filming the Andy Warhol biopic Samo Lives for Neon.
