Baz Luhrmann who has made a name for himself directing spectacles like Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge!, has shared his first look at his new Elvis Presley biopic detailing his rise to fame as well as the singer’s complex relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker, who discovered him in 1955. Following a lengthy search for the leading actor, Austin Butler was cast as Elvis in Summer 2019. The relative newcomer known for his work in Arrow, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and his Broadway debut opposite Denzel Washington in The Iceman Cometh.
The clip shows Elvis Presley, walking towards a stage and at a fairground, with his trademark flared pants and black hairstyle. Watch the teaser below.
