Just in time for Valentine’s Day, director Kat Coiro delivers all the charisma, fun and sweetness that you’d expect from 2022’s fresh new Romcom. Jennifer Lopez leads ‘Marry Me’ as the worldwide popstar Kat Valdez as she is about to marry her equally successful fiancé, Bastion (Maluma), on stage in front of millions. When suddenly she is heartbroken and news of him cheating goes viral, Kat does the most unexpected (but super 2022) thing and marries a random audience member. Math teacher Charlie Gilbert, played by Owen Wilson, standing innocently with his daughter and a marry me sign, takes the honor of Kat’s new husband.

Reunited since their brief collaboration in 1997s ‘Anaconda’, Wilson and Lopez, though an unexpected couple, make it work. They have a surprising chemistry that can only be perfected through years of startling couplings over the years. Let’s be honest, we’ve seen them paired with stranger love interests. They both bring a believable romance to the screen with multiple chuckles along the way, in a feel-good movie that can’t disappoint. As the two characters agree to see where this surprising turn of events take them, they are supported by Kat’s manager Colin played by John Bradley and Parker played by Sarah Silverman.
Another element to add to the film, seeing as it’s a film about a successful popstar, we have an original catchy soundtrack which has also been released and is available to stream. With all songs performed by Jennifer Lopez herself, the album has been produced and written by multiple stars including The Monsters and Strangerz, Michael Pollack, Edgar Berrera, Ryan Ogren, Ivy Adara and many more. Many of these artists are responsible for many songs, from artists such as Justin Bieber, Maroon 5, Halsey, Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry and anyone else who is anyone.

Overall, I’d put ‘Marry Me’ down as one of the most enjoyable Romcoms in while. It has the same vibe as ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’, or maybe ‘The Wedding Planner’, and is definitely one to add to the Valentine’s Day list. For the future, Kat Coiro has directed 6 episodes out of 8 for the new Disney+ series ‘She-Hulk’, and after the successful of ‘Marry Me’, I am intrigued to see what she has created.
