INsiders Guide: Cloe Wilder, Cliché Cult, Mauvey, YUMI NU, Echo Beach, Godlands, Dru Cutler, Dalton Cyr, Micah Willis, Blair Davie….

Cloe started off 2022 with the release of her single “We’re Not Special,” co-written by her and produced by Sam Nicolosi. Cloe has mastered her natural talent and continues to write earthy and melancholic songs while maintaining relatability. Cloe discovered her love of music at a very young age and began to thrive when she started taking piano lessons at four years old. Her voice is beyond her years and she has been able to show the passion she holds for creating music.

In 2021, Cloe released her debut EP Teenage Lullabies, which featured the single “I Wanna Be Alone With You,” co-written and produced by Sam Nicolosi. In 2020, she premiered the song “Crying When I Shouldn’t,” mixed and mastered by Grammy Award winners Rob Kinelski and John Greenham (Billie Eilish), and co-written and produced by Eric Scullin (John K., RZA). Cloe also released the single, “You & Lonely,” co-written by Cloe and produced by Jayme Silverstein (Alicia Keys, Miguel, Estelle).

Cloe’s newest and highly anticipated single “One Step Closer” is now available on all major streaming platforms. Currently, she is working on her next EP, which is slated for release later this year.

‘Plastic World’ is the fifth single from Leeds brightest young act Cliché Cult.

After a very impressive first year as a band, from being played on BBC Introducing and XS Manchester to playing for This Feeling and supporting fellow Leeds up and comers ‘Skylights’, they can hold their heads up high after a successful debut year as an act.

2022 is the year they wish to break forward and hit new targets, with releasing more music than they ever have and playing as many live shows as possible. It looks to be a very busy year for them.

Plastic World is one of the bands newest and freshest tracks. Recorded at Old Chapel Music Studios in Leeds, a great studio that has hosted the likes of Pigeon Detectives and Kaiser Chiefs in recent years. The track was mixed by Grammy nominated producer Alex Newport who has worked with the likes of Death Cab for Cutie and Bloc Party

Influences include; The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Talking Heads, Echo and the Bunnymen and many more.

A highly energized and articulate emotional wreck on stage, Mauvey’s raison d’être is to create and generate love, both on and off stage. “My message will always be Love” says Mauvey, who has designed his projects of Love through his creative narratives which use intentional songwriting, intelligent melody, and hypnotic beat. “My mission is to distribute Love, and there’s no better way to do that than through music”.

Born in Ghana, West Africa, Mauvey grew up in the UK and Vancouver, Canada. An artist, performer and songwriter, Mauvey creates his own unique sound and style of alternative pop music, with reflective influences of Michael Jackson, Kanye West, Oumou Sangaré, Prince, Childish Gambino and Labrinth.

In Spring 2021, Mauvey proudly signed with the fiercely independent label, 604 Records. After three double single releases, Mauvey’s Mixtape “The Florist” dropped in December 2021. The tracks have been receiving tremendous praise from worldwide press, radio, music fans and industry alike.

The project has been championed by BBC Introducing on Radio 1, Exclaim!, Range Magazine and climbing on Earshot, NACC’s Top 200 and Electronic Radio Charts. Mauvey has taken stages with a vengeance including performances at SXSW, support slots for easy life and Snotty Nose Rez Kids, BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend & Isle of Wight Festival, a 20 date UK headline Tour, plus showcase sets at M for Montreal and Focus Wales.

Mauvey’s latest single, “THE KING”, is an empowering alt-pop anthem that floods listeners with melodic lyricism, razor-sharp production and mesmerizing bass and drums. Mauvey shares, “Throughout history ‘Kings’ (men) have been the most important people, the most protected people and the most respected people. I wanted to write a song tearing that apart. THE KING is a redistribution of power and respect to everyone, especially the immensely powerful women we have in our world.” Stay tuned for the debut full length album coming in Fall 2022.

No stranger to versatility, Yumi Nu shows off a grittier sound that perfectly contrasts her soft vocals on her latest single “Illusions.” This release is one of the final tastes of her upcoming debut EP Hajime, which she announced today will officially be out on May 20. Listen to “Illusions” HERE.

Possessing a rare hypnotic quality in both her sound and aesthetics, Yumi Nu creates a heavenly world that can only exist through the destruction of former limitations. This journey of self-actualization has allowed her to blossom into an era of confidence that defines her unique sonic identity. The releases of “Illusions” as well as the Hajime EP are intentionally in line with AAPI Heritage Month. Core to who Yumi Nu is, much of her personal journey is defined by the ever-changing relationship she has with her cultural identity. These themes can be heard throughout all of her releases.

“I wrote ‘Illusions’ about the illusion of the boxes and cages we put ourselves in,” Yumi Nu said. “I realized I had always had a ceiling over my head of how much potential I could reach and what I was worthy of, but it was me who put it there. It felt like realizing I was in a simulation. A belief and narrative I lived in but never questioned if it could be different.”

Manchester’s Echo Beach, are back with stunning new single, “Am I Dreaming?”: a huge synth-driven anthem that really marks a step up for this exciting new band!

The single, produced by renowned producer Gavin Monaghan at Magic Garden Studios, follows on from the success of their debut single ‘Sea of Glass’; which saw the band receive acclaim from Jim Salveson, Shell Zenner at XS Manchester and Charlie Ashcroft at Amazing Radio.

Talking about the track, lead singer Matt Hanson said: “During lockdown I was having some pretty crazy dreams, that didn’t exactly make a lot of sense but at the time everything seemed really intense, and I wanted to capture that in a song.”

Hanson certainly manages to do this as the track opens with a thumping rhythm, expertly orchestrated by drummer Danny Pash, complemented by an effortlessly smooth riff that dances across the opening bars of the track. Hanson’s vocals thunder in to bring the track to its rapturous crescendo with the choruses incorporating beautiful strings that add a cinematic flourish to the huge sound producer Monaghan has crafted. The track finishes with a return to that driving rhythm as Hanson repeats his final battle cry of “I will never let you go…”, rounding off a magnificent piece of work that is ready-made for the live audience.

The collaboration with the highly selective producer Monaghan, whose previous clients include Robert PlantEditors and the Blinders, has allowed the band to further realise the potential their earlier releases had shown:

“Working with Gavin has taken our music to the next level. Working with a producer at the top of their game makes such a massive difference” remarks Hanson. We loved the whole vibe of Magic Garden studio, when we walked in Gavin had the fire on, it was proper laid back and the perfect space to be creative in.”

Godlands Returns to Monstercat With Second Single “TELL ME” Featuring Tisoki Announcing EP Release Set For June 2022

Stream – https://listen.monstercatmusic.com/tellme-mppj

May 9, 2022 — Australian scene-shaper Godlands continued her hot streak on Monstercat today, teaming up with UK bass tastemaker Tisoki for their new single, “TELL ME.” Arriving as the second record off her forthcoming EP set for June, the explosive tune is a synergistic blend of the two producers’ pioneering styles. Rife with aggressive kicks and screeching synths, the pair flex their bass house sensibilities in perfect form, leaving listeners hoping this won’t be their last collab.

Godlands calls it, “a wicked fusion of two artists that created a high-energy club bop. The goal was met, I reckon. It was such an awesome experience working with Tisoki on a record and even better when we both were on the same level from sound to art design.”

Tisoki adds, I’m honoured to be a part of Godlands’ EP coming out on Monstercat and super stoked on our record together. I hope the world enjoys it!”

Godlands has effortlessly worked her way to the top of the club circuit, honing a trap and grime-inspired repertoire. Early on, the Adelaide-native grabbed the attention of industry leaders from BBC to Steve Aoki, which led to massive stage plays including Splendour in the Grass and HARD Summer. Adding to her countless records that have taken off globally, her last track “GODSP33D” earned a triple j Unearthed Artist Pick. The queer producer continues on an explosive trajectory in the lead-up to her EP, hitting headline dates and festivals including Lunar Electric, SUB XL, and more.

Indie-pop singer-songwriter Dru Cutler crafts a love letter to human connection on his new single, “Vibrate,” out May 19, 2022. Multi-instrumentalist, and singer, Dru Cutler is known in the Brooklyn music scene as the co-founder of the award-winning venue, Unit J, in Bushwick. But fans also know him as an inspiring musician and songwriter. He’s worked alongside Grammy-winning producers such as Dave McNair (Bob Dylan, David Bowie), Scott Lehrer (Philip Glass, Rufus Wainwright), and Andy Taub (Norah Jones, Ani DeFranco) and helped to organize the Brooklyn Museum’s sold-out “Night of 1,000 Bowies.” His influences are far and wide — stylistically, he enjoys merging the past and present in the form of what he’s coined “digital nostalgia.” That unique style is mirrored in spades on his new single, “Vibrate.”

On “Vibrate,” Cutler reflects on the physical and emotional distance we faced at the beginning of the 2020 pandemic shutdowns. While holed up in his Brooklyn apartment, he grappled with the emptiness and frustration of digital connection. Instead of allowing it to fester, he turned the negative feelings into positive vibrations via songwriting. The folk-driven guitars quake under hushed and languid vocals as Cutler encourages connection no matter the challenges we might face. Warming synths roam slowly while he hums, “we share wine over the line, but somehow I still feel alone.” The unforgettable indie-pop track reflects how digital togetherness can’t replace the impact of physical human gatherings. It’s a healing and hopeful take on the painstaking first months of lockdown in which Dru Cutler imparts collective emotions with pristine clarity.

It is rare to come across a completely formed artist such as Dalton Cyr, whose music is full of the raw emotions of a person twice his age. At 21, he pours so much of himself into his music, you cannot ignore the fact that you are in the presence of an artist at the top of his game.

The singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist produces simply astounding pop and rock songs infused with intricate guitar work and a voice that passionately tells his own story. Combining the pop sensibilities of Justin Timberlake and Ed Sheeran with the rock influences of John Mayer, he is not a carbon copy of anyone else and marches to the beat of his own drum.

Bursting onto the scene with his debut album in 2012 titled I’ll Be There and still not yet a teenager, he has been constantly touring since that time and performing in front of audiences as large as 50,000. Since that stunning debut and growing into the role of a live performer with the high-energy and vibrancy of youth, he has released a whole swag of singles and an EP, rounded off by his sophomore album in 2017 called Breathe.

Showing a maturity way beyond his years, it was the launchpad for the next step in his exciting and limitless career. Composed of seven songs, it was a clear indication that Dalton was here to stay- and that the future was anything he imagined it to be. Complex and inspiring arrangements keeping pace with original guitar work and vocals that are simply breathtaking, it is hardly surprising that he has been inducted into Robert M Knight’s “The Brotherhood of the Guitar.” A place that is reserved for artists that are considered to be the best emerging guitarists in the industry today, it is a validation of his extraordinary work to date.

Micah Willis has been playing music for as long as he can remember. But, this should come as no surprise. Micah possesses talent that can only spawn from years of dedicated practice. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Micah began by playing harmonic with his dad, Kenny Neal, a professional blues musician. At eight years old, he became part of a children’s choir, which allowed him to experience performing in front of an audience. Shortly thereafter, Micah joined an after-school music program, for which he performed at venues across the country, including Carnegie Hall. Now splitting his time between Salt Lake City and L.A., Micah has grown into a highly respected singer, songwriter, musician and actor. He has worked and played with the likes of Neon Trees, James Valentine (Maroon 5), Steve Smith (Journey), and Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews Band). It also bears mentioning that Micah won four Downbeat Magazine awards all before graduating high school. He’s also appeared on the hit Disney TV show, Andi Mack. Influenced by everyone from Miguel and The Weeknd to Fleetwood Mac, Micah seamlessly blends elements of pop, funk, and hip-hop into his high-energy, crowd-pleasing performances.

Coinciding with the release of her new single, ‘Heaven Knows’ – the title track from her forthcoming debut album, UK soul artist Mica Millar announces two massive live shows for September. Playing the biggest headline shows of her career she’ll be hitting the capital’s iconic Jazz Cafe on Saturday 17th September and then the prestigious Albert Hall in Manchester on Sunday 25th September to perform her new album in full.

The triumphant fourteen-track debut out June 10 explores themes of human nature, spirituality, love, oppression, inequality and empowerment, drawing inspiration from a plethora of vintage soundscapes, most notably soul, blues, gospel and jazz.  Respectful nods are paid to girl groups of the 60’s and 70’s and classic Motown giving her songs a timeless quality that is both reassuringly familiar yet distinctively Mica Millar.

Equipped with her ten-strong, powerhouse band, her hometown headline show at Manchester’s infamous Albert Hall will provide the perfect backdrop to the album. Here fans can expect a spiritual ‘Sunday Service’ set in golden light beneath the hall’s ornate cathedral ceiling – the very same spot she filmed her new video for ‘Heaven Knows’ – see here. And in London Mica performs a flagship headline show at Jazz Cafe, home to the best in UK and touring Soul and Jazz acts. Support acts for both shows are to be announced.

Remember the name Blair Davie (He/Him) who’s an alternative star-in-the-making. The Scottish songwriter will be a new name to almost everybody in the world but has the talent to reach us all on his voice alone. Combining his heartwarming vocal tones with songwriting that invokes honest feelings of vulnerability and acceptance you get a sound that feels special.   Today Blair introduces himself with a brand new single titled “Platform 10.”  Listeners will be able to see him live in London for the first time at The Courtyard Theatre on May 10th  then in Brighton at this year’s The Great Escape on May 12th.  Blair’s debut EPLong Nights And Darker Dayswill follow later this year in the fall.

Speaking about the song’s meaning, Blair said ”Platform 10 is about being left behind.  My best friend is a year older than me. He left school a year before I did and it was strange not sharing my final year of school with him, while he was making new friends and having new experiences without me. He moved to London a few years ago and again I experienced that feeling of being left behind.  However, there is something beautiful about missing someone. I guess it shows how much you value that person in your life.  So this song is really a celebration of a wonderful friendship and an acknowledgement of my sadness that he always seems to be one step ahead of me, while I stay behind.

Building up to their eighth studio album ‘Hell Is In Your Head’, Senses Fail has today released acoustic versions of “Death By Water” and “I’m Sorry I’m Leaving”. Fans can find more information and stream HERE.

We’re Fake Shape, an alternative-indie band from Hamilton, Ontario. The four members of our band each bring a different influence to our sound, which results in Fake Shape’s aesthetic that falls between funk, indie rock, pop, and ambient electronic music.

Listen to our resonant new single, “‘Nother Thought” on streaming platforms everywhere.

This song is about trying to convince yourself that you’re okay when you’re really not. It’s about acknowledging that you can trivialize your mood and emotions to make other people more comfortable, when really you should be working through your problems and taming the creatures in your head.

We have been writing and recording our debut EP, Night Swim, at Fort Rose in Hamilton. The album is out on June 14th. The songs drift through contrasting mindsets and morphing textures like navigating a solitary swim through dark water.

Thanks for listening,

Fake Shape

Following a string of polished club-ready records, UK house duo Punctual have unveiled their awaited EP, ‘Maze’ on Monstercat. Rounding out the package with the new title single today, “Maze” sees the pair lean further into their moody melodic house stylings with percussive grooves and expertly-crafted pop hooks. After cutting their teeth as studio stalwarts and sought-after collaborators with the impressive likes of Jason Derulo, RAYE, Sonny Fodera, and more, Punctual are back in the spotlight making personal records primed for a live audience. ‘Maze’ is a mature taste of the duo’s profound dedication to their craft and a strong indication of where they’re headed next.

Punctual share, “‘Maze’ was one of the first tracks we made after the initial lockdown. We had just moved into our new studio and the freedom of being out of our homes and the space itself made us feel really creative. When you take a step away or are in a new environment you get this fresh, new perspective on everything and we really felt that then! The EP was a product of all of this and it was really exciting to be able to get together again with our amazing collaborators.

Lauded by industry legends like Pete Tong, Zane Lowe, and Elton John, Punctual have cemented their talents as radio darlings and have their sights set on leveling up as global performers. Demonstrating their synergy on iconic UK stages from Glastonbury to fabric, the guys will return to the fold this summer with a slew of shows to be announced soon.

After launching with the genre-blurring “Two Seater” in 2021, Bristol born, London based vocalist and visual artist Willow Kayne has enjoyed a prodigious ascent to the pinnacle of pop music’s more daring corners; taking inspiration from the bass-tinged sonics of her hometown while writing some of the genre’s most memorable hooks of recent years. Her postmodern approach to songwriting was rewarded in 2021 with Willow receiving the Ivor Novello Rising Star award, setting her on a path to achieve greatness from the outset of her career. After her riotously received debut EP Playground Antics was released earlier this year, Willow Kayne returns today to open the next chapter with a brand new single and video, “Final Notice.”
