Liam Neeson has entered negotiations for the leading role in Paramount Pictures’ upcoming reboot of the 1980’s comedy film ‘The Naked Gun’. The project hails from Seth MacFarlane and Akiva Schaffer. While talks are being kept under wraps, Neeson is in talks to play the lead role of Frank Drebin.
The remake will be directed and executive produced by Schaffer from a screenplay he co-wrote with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand. The producers are MacFarlane and Erica Huggins. Neeson sparked rumors about reviving the ’80s comedy earlier this year, telling “People” that McFarlane and Paramount had been pursuing him to resurrect the “Naked Gun” films. However, the actor has still yet to sign on the dotted line.
“It’ll either finish my career or bring it in another direction. I honestly don’t know,” Neeson said. Paramount has been attempting to reboot the series since 2013. It was first being rebooted with Ed Helms as Frank Drebin, but that version eventually fell apart. In 2021, McFarlane announced he had been hired to retool the film.
