INsiders Guide: All Is Fused, PiPEIIA, Aayanna, YOVA, Shane Garcia, Jack Kane, Chloe Tang, Cadence, Augusta, Emm Gryner, Ben Sefton…

Over the years All Is Fused has explored new musical territories in order to expand their skills and find new forms of expression. Throughout this journey they have gone against standard, expected musical forms and explored outside their comfort zones, discovering new ways to write music that might lead to fresh sounds. However, the All Is Fused philosophy is not one to reject ideas, but of integrating them. Therefore, for this record, the ensemble decided to embrace these forms as a grounding device from which to innovate.

Embrace Form is an album that explores the relationship between experimental instrumental music and popular music by leveraging familiar forms and enhancing or appropriating them to fit the ensemble’s expressive style. Tracks featuring common musical forms or compositional techniques such as verse-chorus (Explode), vamps (Friends, Memories, Loops), canon (Crystalline) are present as much as improvisational forms that are open (Cotati Reset) or that follow call-and-response patterns (Caribbean Mountains). These familiar forms are then modified to bring listeners something familiar with a twist. Take for example, Crystalline, where a common form such as a canon, which usually includes repeated motifs with added layers, in this case grows not just vertically (additional layers), but also horizontally (additional bars that add to the initial motifs).

All Is Fused leverages conventional forms to keep moving beyond the constraints of current fusion, eschewing conventions and showcasing virtuoso playing without becoming self-indulgent. Embrace Form adds to the sextet’s body of work and continues to expand their sonic horizons creating enjoyable textures that can appeal to fans of progressive Jazz and non-fans alike.

Indie orchestral rock riser PiPEIIA has released her new single, “Afterglow,” a whimsical take on the mystical feeling arising after having experienced a euphoric moment. “Afterglow” is now available to stream and download on digital platforms worldwide.

“Afterglow” is an ode to a tucked-away fantastic world where the unthinkable is possible. As the track pushes the boundaries of reality and imagination, electronic beat drops are accompanied by electric guitar, pairing EDM pop rhythms and pacing with a carefree rock attitude. In an eclectic mix of genres, PiPEIIA pictures the kaleidoscopic joy and bliss of an emotionally powerful moment.

The track is the manifestation of a cathartic form of liberation, which sparks something supernatural, a moment suspended in space and time. “‘Afterglow’ is about freedom more than anything else,” she comments, “a feeling of euphoria, just like how you feel in the final moments of an epic concert.” Much like watching the sky fade into the sunset, the song leaves listeners breathless and pumped, speeding up and slowing down at once in a whirlwind of freedom and emotional release grounded in the moment. Embracing the possibilities and growth that come with endings, the song is a contemplation of leftover adrenaline, an electric meditation of cinematic moments and their place in real life. “Afterglow” was written by PiPEllA and co-written with writing partner, Suzanne Yada. The track was produced by Jon Benward and mixed and mastered by Promethex Productions, who also produced her 2022 single, “Life as a Movie.”

newly signed Avant Garden artist Aáyanna, who is following up her well received debut single ‘Risky’ with another exciting offering in ‘Can You Take It’.   Working with producer Juberlee ( Playboi Carti, Smino, Big Latto), Aáyanna is something of a genre chameleon, creating music which touches on R&B, alternative, indie and more, drawing inspiration from a litany of artists ranging from Sade to the Marias. Speaking on the track, she states:

“My inspiration for Can You Take It came from the guitar itself. I loved how sensual and raw it sounded, so it urged me to write a song that felt seductive and like only the listener and I exist when it’s being played. The lyrics are bold and straightforward but metaphorically, I’m also asking if you can take me at my best and worst. Can you take how big and complex my personality is and what obligations come with me. At its core, Can You Take It is about wanting to feel desired even after showing someone those parts of yourself.”

Experimental pop duo YOVA have returned with the compelling new track “Hurt Like No Hurt”, part of a digital bundle of tracks set for release on 20 January 2023.

PRE-SAVE HERE || WATCH OFFICIAL VIDEO HERE

Described by the duo as “departing from a place where Giorgio Morodor meets John Barry, to a destination where The Stooges meet The Supremes”, the track was arranged by legendary Rob Ellis (PJ Harvey, Anna Calvi).

A cathartic listen carved from visceral lyrics and pulsing electronics that build to a transcendental climax, vocalist Jova Radevska says of “Hurt Like No Hurt”:

“”Hurt Like No Hurt” is a song about relationship ghosting, the merry-go-round of breaking up and making up, and the inevitable finality of it all. An ultimate realisation that there comes a point where no matter what, there’s just no going back; when the only choice is the inevitable grief and acceptance of loss in order to emerge as a stronger person. Sometimes no further words need to be spoken, the sound of silence is enough.”

Arriving as the first glimpse of new music from YOVA since the release of their debut album ‘Nine Lives’ last year, “Hurt Like No Hurt” is filled with YOVA’s trademark experimental magnetism while utilising oscillating electronics, cinematic mandolin strums, and clarion call-like trumpets to create something otherworldly.

Featured as part of a ‘Hurt Like No Hurt’ digital bundle which is released on 20 January, the full track-listing will also include a stripped-back rendition of the duo’s track “Rain” (previously remixed by Erasure’s Vince Clarke), alongside an instrumental version of “Hurt Like No Hurt”.

An intimate session video of “Rain” live from the band’s studio is also being made available in accompaniment for the bundle.

The new bundle arrives as the band also confirm a headline launch show at The Troubadour in London later this month (25 Jan). Support comes from special guests TJ Owusu and Leo Walrus. Further details / tickets here

Shane Garcia has released their new single, “Evil Twin,” an alternative pop track whose production makes it sound bone-chillingly ominous. The song was written from Garcia’s personal experiences with mania, described as episodes that they had no control over; the metaphor of the “evil twin” is used to illustrate the disconnected nature of Garcia’s manic self and the destruction caused to themselves during these episodes. “Evil Twin” is available to stream and download on all major music platforms.

Rising London based newcomer Jack Kane continues to build towards the release of his second EP with the reveal of stellar new single, We’d Be Good, on January 20th. Having gained support from areas such as CLASH, Wonderland, House Of Solo and Atwood Magazine on the back of gorgeous debut EP Under Your Spell, We’d Be Good sees the fast emerging artist showcasing an earthy side to his vocal, creating an indie pop cut about a relationship that never quite gets over the final hurdle. Fans of Will Joseph Cook or Declan McKenna may enjoy this – Take a listen below.

Chloe Tang, who’s proudly Asian-American and frequently pulls inspiration from her Chinese heritage, brings together raw lyrics with immediately addictive hooks. She’s said her music is “about real emotions and experiences — not what people think pop music should be.”

“Hoes Have Feelings Too” is inspired by Chloe’s experiences as an extremely sensitive kid who always surrendered to her emotions and now a young-woman living in LA where she’s had to navigate an often-times toxic dating culture. She expressed that at first she had a hard time facing the harsh double-standards against a majority of sexually active and open women – “If you’re going to call me a hoe, then I’m gonna embrace it and live my best life. Just don’t forget we’re people too and we have feelings, so in the wise words of Doja Cat “play with my pussy but don’t play with my emotions,” she says.

the rising dance producer and songwriter Cadence has released “Be What I Need” an uplifting house anthem with bright synthpop flair that features guest vocals from Brooke Williams. Inspired by the German-born and Australian based producer’s time spent living in LA where the song was written, the track evokes the morning runs through Marina Del Rey and the sunsets on Venice Beach, which also inspired the beautiful photography on the single artwork. While the track is built on dance music foundations, “Be What I Need” has strong melodic pop sensibilities, with Brooke’s breathy vocals floating elegantly over the Ibiza-ready beats. Inspired by similar artists like Rufus Du Sol and Hayden James – the latter of whom helped Cadence polish the track’s final details – “Be What I Need” shows Cadence coming into his own as a songwriter, primed with real potential for crossover outside of the dance music space. You can listen to the track below:

Hailing from Toronto, Augusta, is a 7-piece Alternative Rock band, described by CBC’s Errol Nazarteth as “sparking ferocious dance parties wherever they go.” Formed in 2022, Augusta, is led by Joe Dent (former band leader of A Fellow Ship), August Jones (Toronto session musician and touring member of The Reklaws, the Pick Brothers band and more), and Zach Stuckey (Toronto session musician and touring member of Anna Sofia, Dani Doucette, and more). They have swiftly caught the attention of the Canadian music scene with a headlining show at Toronto’s prestigious Lee’s Palace, a performance at Kingston’s renown YGK Craft Beer Fest, and tour dates throughout Ontario and Quebec.

Since 2013, Joe’s previous project, A Fellow Ship, has been exceptionally active in the Canadian music scene. This was highlighted with the release of several EP’s, earning him radio play across Canada, as well as a consistent string of Canadian tours. This includes performances at festivals and conferences such as The Beaches International Jazz Festival, Canadian Music Week, NXNE, POP Montreal, Westport Music Festival, Wind and Waves Eco Festival, River Rock Festival, Balls Falls Music Festival, as well as a performance on the Global Morning Show. The live music hiatus caused by the pandemic gave Augusta the opportunity to refine their sound and evolve into Toronto’s newest Rock and Roll powerhouse.

Emm Gryner is an award-winning singer, songwriter, actor and best-selling author.

Emm sang and played keyboards in David Bowie’s band, and appears on numerous recordings, including his landmark 1999 SNL appearance, Bowie at The Beeb and Toy. Bowie’s acclaimed Glastonbury 2000 documents her performance in front of more than 100,000 fans at Worthy Farm.

With her rock band Trapper, Gryner shared arena stages with Def Leppard, and she also helped coordinate and create the first music video recorded in outer space to the world (Space Oddity with Commander Chris Hadfield).

“I wrote this song for a cute girl that I met at a local bar. There was some kind of event going on there that night, and I saw her walk in, look around shyly and sit by herself at a table by the window. I got the courage to approach her and talk to her, and after introducing myself, she let me know how relieved she was because she came there alone and was nervous because she wouldn’t know anyone there and wouldn’t know who to talk to. We exchanged Instagram handles and a few days later, after talking briefly, I decided I’d try to really impress her and write a song for her. I made this track originally on my Iphone, then I sent it to her. A day later she responded with “omg, unreal. We’re hanging out”. We did end up hanging out, and going to a punk show together. She was a cool, stoner, skater-girl and really made an impression on me with her youthful, devil-may-care attitude (maybe because it was similar to my own), and a certain tragic, melancholic quality beneath the surface that I couldn’t put my finger on. In any case, I made the song before I even got to know her, and once I took a second look at the lyrics I realized how easy it would be to change the story of the song from a romantic admirer disclosing his growing affections for a stranger, to a potentially dangerous unknown (possibly a killer) with a creepy, unwarranted obsession with a girl he only met briefly – something similar to the stalker vibes from The Police’s “Every Breath You Take”. At this point I should make it clear that I’m 100% not a dangerous killer, but as a songwriter I’m in the business of telling engaging stories. In the end I intended for the song to have those two possible meanings – a love story or a Dateline episode – depending on how you interpret it.” — Ben Sefton

Child of Sin is who I am. Kovacs. One hundred percent raw and honest.

The one and only Till Lindemann features on the title track. During the writing, I immediately thought of Till, I wanted it to be a duet. The message is loud and clear, because you seldom hear a male and a female voice team up to bring a story to a song. We shot the video in November 2022 and that was the icing on the cake! Working with Till was a learning process for me, I feasted my eyes on every detail. A huge set, thirty people working on a big short film. People really believe in the song, the collaboration, and the message. I hope it moves you as well.

My third album is a culmination of everything I have learned these past few years, it’s one complete story I had to tell. I’m controlling everything now, independently. Music, videos, costumes, set design, make-up, even the look of the record. I’ve designed the sleeve myself, experimenting with stamps and brushes. Other than that, I have opted for a combo of many different flavours. I have gathered the masks from my past and pictured them on the inside of the record’s sleeve. Subconsciously, it was a very symbolic sign, because my own masks were coming off while making Child of Sin.

It took me some time to get to the point where I currently am. Writing did go smoothly and swiftly, I kind of pushed myself to keep working. I have a hard time processing the fact that I’m ready. I’m still dealing with daily strife, and it takes effort to come clean and share these stories with the world. But I wanted to be honest with myself first and foremost, so I’m not hiding my struggles.

With my first album, I could barely let go. With my second album, I regretted the loss of a lot of details. Now everything’s ace from the get-go.

I wrote Do This Do That about owning my own opinions and not wanting to be told what to do, what to think, what to wear, how to look, etc. I am wanting to take charge over myself and not be influenced by others. Sometimes letting go of the outside noise is so important to get realigned and re- focussed. Don’t be afraid to be yourself.  Even if it can cause controversy. I think it is so important to be confident in who you are.”

After 2022 saw AJA reach new heights with her music and songwriting, the talented teen has been winning hearts and turning heads at every step. From being coined the iHeartRadio Future Star for her smash single “Red Button,” to receiving acclaim from the likes of Billboard, Clash, Consequence, The Line of Best Fit, Dork, Spin, Flaunt. Not to mention she’s scooped a wealth of DSP support from the likes of NMF, Young & Free and more!

Despite still being the tender age of 18-years-old, the LA based Canadian artist is sat on an impressive catalog of alt-pop earworms. Her music has developed into a strong and inspiring language that is complimented by her timeless powerhouse vocals.

global collaboration EIGHT THOUSAND BIRDS release their new single ‘Blue House’ into the world. The hauntingly beautiful track is available now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here

Founded amid the COVID-19 pandemic, EIGHT THOUSAND BIRDS is an alt-pop duo that has never met IRL. Formed in 2021, when Vancouver-based musician Alejandro Zarazua met Johannesburg-based vocalist Hayley Chewins on an online music forum, the two were soon collaborating and creating music virtually.

The result, their debut EP Turn Again and Come Back, is now set for release on February 14th. ‘Blue House’ is the first single to be released from the EP with the track showcasing what EIGHT THOUSAND BIRDS does best, blending personal lyrics and lush eerie melodies.

“I’m a novelist, and this song started out as a story idea,” says HayIey. “I wanted to write about a woman who was trying to drive away from a house and couldn’t; no matter how far she drove, she always ended up back in the driveway. When I realized it was a song, it poured out of me in one go. It’s about our relationship with the past and how sometimes something happens to you that you just can’t close the door on.”

LA-based alternative singer-songwriter Jane., shares serene single “Beach Inside” out everywhere now, along with an accompanying visualizer, ahead of his forthcoming dreamy EP Celeste, due out March 31 and available for pre-order now via Good News Only. After a string of dates supporting singer-songwriter Suki Waterhouse on tour and playing in Waterhouse’s live band across the Western U.S., Jane. will complete the tour tonight in Salt Lake City, UT with tickets available via janenoise.com.

“Beach Inside” premiered exclusively via Under the Radar, who wrote that the new single “conjures something more warm and intimate. Jane. draws the sound of the track inward, immersing the listener in a honeyed world of subtle beats, intimate production, and inviting vocal melodies. Meanwhile, with his lyrics Jane. traces a search for peace and escape, dreaming of a place of perfect intimacy, one safe from the world’s chaos.” They add a note on the forthcoming album as a whole, saying, “Celeste finds Jane. delivering a set of hypnotic and tranquil meditations, diving into the spirituality infused within his art.”

Jane.’s latest release “Beach Inside” immerses listeners in a peaceful sonic world through the singer’s uniquely captivating vocals that offer one no choice but to be fully present with the music. Over three minutes and thirteen seconds, the singer aims to escape the chaos of everyday life in search of peace and purpose, and ultimately, trusts there could be more to life than what meets the eye. The track opens with a soft, “I still believe there’s something bigger than what we can see / Something inside of you lives inside me.” In pursuit of a place of complete calm and harmony, Jane. explains the track, “is a song about peace. I can’t help but deny the idea that this is it. Or what we see in this reality, is all this life has to offer. This chaos will not define my reality.”

Kicking off a new chapter as he continues to electrify, Team 80 Productions artist Bleezy unleashes his latest music offering, “The Greatest,” with a boastful accompanying video watch HERE.

Emanating a champion mindset with lyrical punchlines to match, Bleezy walks in his path of greatness as one of Brownsville, BK’s next bet for success. The Dr. Wesley & Team 80 Media directed music video finds the rising rapper in his element, taking over the streets of New York City.

At its very core, as Bleezy puts it, “the new track taps into his connection to what Brownsville is bringing to Hip Hop and the energy he’s unleashing all 2023.” 2022 has already proved to be monolithic for Bleezy, having released a string of soaring singles, including “Tears” and more.

Creative directed by ROWA and produced in collaboration with video director Gina Sgrenci, the visual for the music video was meant to a create a blank canvas to showcase the raw talent of the “Naughty GXRL” archetype through high energy dance performances and movement; choreographed by Venezuelan dancer Liz Marrero. The juxtaposition of the modern day femme, alongside lofi and vintage aesthetics, combines raw choreography and glitch art as an introduction to ROWA’s visual universe. With imagery of an albino snake, floral altars and the empowered divine feminine, the “NAUGHTY GXRL” video alludes to the age old tale of Lillith in a modern and dystopian Eden.
Born and raised in Milwaukee, WI, ROWA picked up her life and immediately left after graduating high school. Always marching to the beat of her own drum, she then traveled nomadically for years playing mandolin and guitar in several bands across the U.S., Canada and Mexico. However, ROWA’s voracious appetite to create wasn’t fulfilled, and she eventually settled in New Orleans and later Los Angeles to pursue her music career. While the world stayed dormant during a time of isolation, ROWA sat in her studio in Los Angeles learning to produce music. What has since ensued is a unique blend of sonic and visual work; her genre-defying sound has gained her cult recognition amongst the Los Angeles underground, with multiple event residencies under her belt at reputable venues. ROWA’s interactive performances, eclectic DJ sets and knack for curation are known to pull a crowd on a mere Tuesday night. The audience steps into the ROWAVERSE for an immersive escape from the drags of city living, ROWA unfurls her sonic performances in pop star format accompanied by her magical web of highly skilled dancer friends. ROWA is dedicated to pursuing an independent career in music as a female producer and hopes her efforts will inspire other young women to pursue their own technical skills in music.

Swim Away” is a piano pop song that’s reminiscent of OneRepublic meets Coldplay. Lyrically speaking, it’s a song about ending a relationship because it has met its natural end. You may not be ready to end it, but it’s the best for both parties involved.

Josiah is a piano-first artist as it was the first instrument he ever learned. “The piano theme that runs through ‘Swim Away’ has always been one of my favorite melodies,” shares Josiah. “I also love how the interplaying themes of the piano and electric guitar contrast the swelling strings.”

“In my life, my M.O. has been going against the grain,” the Springfield, Missouri-based artist says. “I’m not necessarily proud of that, I just do things differently—sometimes it feels like I only really learn through failure.”
Josiah’s fiery desire to be a full-time musician led directly to his success as an entrepreneur. “For a few years, I was focused solely on music—I knew that I probably wasn’t going to be saved by a record label, but I found I wasn’t yet a good enough entrepreneur to make it happen on my own,” Josiah reveals.

Frustrated by his own unfulfilled potential, and fueled on by his uncompromising artistic vision, he taught himself computer coding and saw his work value soar. Eventually, he went full time with his own company until the company got acquired in 2021. After the acquisition, he is finally in a place where he feels ready to release his debut album, Grace, written when he was 21.

Stefano is a singer, songwriter and piano virtuoso who fuses soul, pop and classical for an enthralling musical journey. The talented songwriter’s music is marked by hope, love and connection in the aim to heal.

Born in Italy, Stefano took to music at an early age and began classical piano  training at age seven. He quickly gained notoriety by performing on popular Italian TV shows, and since then has collaborated with famed songwriters, as well as the famed director Franco Zeffirelli. Honing his craft further, the musician and singer has ultimately composed and scored motion picture soundtracks under the guidance of award-winning filmmaker Jamal Joseph.

2019 marked the beginning of his solo project, when Stefano began collaborating with famed producer Chico Bennett (Madonna, Lady Gaga, The Killers, Prince). His debut single “Prayer” highlights the songwriter’s warm and confessional vocals brimming with such passion, and yet such delicate vibrato tones. Stefano’s otherworldly vocal delivery glides with memorable melodies over intimate piano. The moving lyrics detail the act of loving again after hardship and disconnection. With comparisons to Sam Smith, Andrea Bocelli, and Michael Bublé, “Prayer” marked a graceful and exciting debut for this generational artist on the rise.

In Stefano’s single “We Are The Power,” the songwriter invites us all to take part in healing the world together. The glorious composition features soulful vocals, a soaring melody, and a vivacious chorus complete with a gospel choir for a most heartfelt demonstration of love, optimism, and vitality. “Find My Way” was born as a musical tribute to the Motown world that has been highly influential to Stefano’s musical taste and sound since he was a young child. Thematically, the song was inspired by his mother, who raised Stefano to pursue big dreams and share his gifts with strength, patience, and heartfelt dedication. “False Horizon” is a festival inspired song featuring stylistic tangents of iconic California desert vintage, while “Don’t Say Goodbye” is a song that puts a spotlight on second chances in life and relationships.

Indie-pop, garage, and drum & bass collide stupendously to get 2023 off to a bang it deserves courtesy of newcomer Charlotte Plank’s new cut ‘LSD.’ Going into the new year with just two tracks uploaded was enough to convince leading tastemakers such as the Independent & NME to include the British-Australian for big things via their tips for this year. Despite another popular acronym for the wording ‘LSD,’ this track’s title is shorthand for Love So Damaged and continues Charlotte’s growing trend of creating music that hit the heart just as much as they do on the dance floor.

classically trained pop artist John Hanifin is excited to release his latest single “Stop, Drop & Roll”the first from his upcoming Clean House album, due to be released on April 21st, 2023.

“Stop, Drop & Roll” sees John Hanifin merging a captivating blend of vibrant electronic pop with a soulful vocal performance. Suboom Bass & an independent kick crafted “Stop, Drop & Roll”. John Hanifin had the guitar line for years, but it wasn’t until he added a hiccup syncopation that it really took off. John is particularly proud of the bridge – the vocal arrangement with automated vocoder, the cello section he recorded over them, and compositionally the withering away of instrumentation without tacky fades, just like Hanifin would compose for orchestra or film score. As you’ll hear prominently in the outro, John also had a love affair with the synth he nicknamed “Gameboy Synth”. Hanifin writes, “Sound is easy to create, but my goal is to always find the space – that moment of silence & emptiness that does more than anything I could ever create.”
