A24 and CMC Pictures have officially announced that the English-language version of Ne Zha 2, the record-breaking Chinese animated phenomenon, will be hitting cinemas across Australia starting August 28, 2025. The film will be available in IMAX®, 3D, and various other premium large formats.
Ne Zha 2 holds the title of the highest-grossing animated film of all time, the highest-grossing non-English language film ever, and it ranks as the fifth highest-grossing film overall. Directed and written by Yang Yu, the film is a game-changer in modern animation, blending emotional storytelling, mythological grandeur, and cutting-edge visuals. Building on the success of its groundbreaking predecessor, Ne Zha 2 brings a daring new chapter to the legendary tale of Ne Zha.
Academy Award® winner Michelle Yeoh will lend her voice to the English-language version of the film. She shared, “I’m truly honored to be part of Ne Zha 2, a landmark achievement in Chinese animation, and a testament to the universality of our stories. It’s such a joy to share this film in English, and I can’t wait for audiences to experience its wonder, heart, stunning artistry, and magic on the big screen.”
Synopsis: Ne Zha, a rebellious young boy born with uncontrollable powers, is feared by the gods and raised by mortal parents. When an ancient force threatens humanity’s existence, he must rise to become the hero the world desperately needs.
Already a critical darling, Ne Zha 2 has earned the highest rating of any animated film in 2025 on Rotten Tomatoes, and it continues to receive rave reviews on Letterboxd.
