The trailer for the upcoming Avatar project, titled Fire and Water: Making the Avatar Films, has been unveiled.
The film Avatar: Fire and Ash is set to hit theaters across the United States later this year. Directed by James Cameron, this sequel is the third installment in the franchise, following 2009’s Avatar and 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water. Once again, Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña will reprise their roles as Jake Sully and Neytiri.
Before the movie’s release, fans will have the opportunity to explore how Cameron and his team bring Pandora to life through a new two-part documentary. Fire and Water: Making the Avatar Films will be available for streaming on Disney+ starting November 7, 2025. According to Variety, the documentary will provide an in-depth look into the making of Avatar: The Way of Water, along with a preview of Avatar: Fire and Ash. It will feature behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with cast and filmmakers, including James Cameron, the late producer Jon Landau, and stars such as Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, and Kate Winslet.
Saldaña recently encouraged Cameron to create a documentary about the making of the Avatar films during an interview with Beyond Noise. She expressed that it would give fans a detailed understanding of why performance capture is considered one of the most empowering forms of acting.
Fire and Water: Making the Avatar Films stars Sigourney Weaver as Kiri, Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch, Oona Chaplin as Varang, Cliff Curtis as Tonowari, Jack Champion as Spider, Kate Winslet as Ronal, Giovanni Ribisi as Parker Selfridge, and others. The film is scheduled to be released on December 19, 2025, by 20th Century Studios. Currently, the first two movies are available for streaming on Disney+.
